1. A pleasant day to each and everyone, allow me to introduce myself,
I am Hero Buaron from Bachelor of Science in Criminology 1-B, and for today’s
video discussion, I am going to discuss some of the volunteer organization namely,
Kiwanis International, Rotary International, Lion’s Club International, Opus Dei, and
Knights of Columbus
Starting with Kiwanis International
So, who is Kiwanis International
KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL
Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to
improving the lives of children one community at a time. Today, we stand with more than
550,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in 80
countries and geographic areas. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis
empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as
fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance.
The members of Kiwanis International seek to provide assistance to the young and the
elderly, create international understanding and goodwill, help develop community
facilities, support agriculture and conservation, and mount programs to safeguard against
crime and eliminate alcohol and drug abuse.
MISSION
With regards to their mission,
2. Kiwanis helps kids around the world. Local clubs look out for our communities and the
international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and
poverty. We are generous with our time. We are creative with our ideas. We are
passionate about making a difference. And we have fun along the way.
For more than a century, Kiwanis has created opportunities for children to be curious,
safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. When you give a child
the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things can
happen.
INFLUENCE
Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club. Kiwanis members stage more than 150,000
service projects, devote more than six million hours of service.
Kiwanis clubs have built all-access playgrounds, restocked libraries, created food
pantries, bought medical equipment, hosted diversity fairs, stuffed backpacks with school
supplies and much, much more. Local projects are based on the needs of the community.
Kiwanis programs for youth and young adults help to create the next generation of
community leaders. For instance, Key Club, the world's oldest and largest student-led
service organization for high school students, encourages leadership development
through service to others. Aktion Club, the only service club for adults with disabilities,
helps members find purpose and self-worth through park cleanups, food drives and other
projects. And programs like Bring Up Grades and Terrific Kids empower children to be
accountable for themselves so they succeed in life.
3. 2. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
Next off, is Rotary International,
so..
Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers
who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across
the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years,
Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action
on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always
working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.
What they do?
Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our
world’s most persistent issues. Our 46,000+ clubs work together to:
Promote peace
Fight disease
Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
Save mothers and children
Support education
Grow local economies
Protect the environment
MAKING A DIFFERENCE IS THEIR MAIN MANTRA WHEN IT COMES TO
VOLUNTEERISM
Rotarians are known for getting results. Our collective efforts can change lives for
generations — like our work to protect billions of children against polio. Because of their
partnership in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and the fundraising and advocacy
efforts of countless members, nearly 19 million people are walking today who otherwise
would have been paralyzed, and 1.5 million people are alive who otherwise would have
died.
Their achievements extend beyond the effort to end polio. The polio eradication
infrastructure has provided critical support to the COVID-19 response in many vulnerable
countries and has played a continual role in other health efforts, such as providing
4. additional medical treatments and vaccines, bed nets to prevent malaria, access to clean
water, and even soap for hand washing.
Fighting disease is just one of our areas of focus. Rotarians and Rotaractors also support
education, grow local economies, save mothers and children, promote peace, and
provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Rotary has long supported activities that sustain the environment, providing $18 million
in global grants over the last five years through our existing areas of focus. Recognizing
the increased interest in environmental conservation among our members, The Rotary
Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors unanimously approved
adding a new area of focus: protecting the environment.
Third organization is the
LION’S INTERNATIONAL
KINDNESS IN ACTION IS THE FOREFRONT OF THEIR PRINCIPLE TO
VOLUNTEERISM
They join together, roll up their sleeves and take action to make their community
better. That’s Lions. Being in Lion’s International is about leading by example,
building relationships and improving the world through kindness. It’s 1.4 million
caring men and women serving together so they can make a lasting impact and
change more lives.
Access a Global Support System
Every Lion and club is supported by our international association. More than 300
Lions International staff members are constantly working on tools and technology
to enhance their service.
5. PUT LEADERSHIP SKILLS INTO ACTION
A Lions club is a great place to develop your leadership skills and put them into
action. Each club offers opportunities to lead, along with first-class training from
our global association.
EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF SERVICE
At the heart of Lions clubs there is one constant: service. Giving your time and
energy to others is a fantastic way to help your community. Yet, it also provides a
great feeling for you that can spread and have a positive impact in your life and
how you approach the world.
ON A MISSION TO SERVE
Lions serve. It’s that simple, and it has been since we first began in 1917. Our clubs
are places where individuals join together to give their valuable time and effort to
improving their communities, and the world.
To empower Lions clubs, volunteers, and partners to improve health and well -
being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through
humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage
peace and international understanding.
To be the global leader in community and humanitarian service.
Impact
By uniting our organization's service around five global cause areas — diabetes, vision,
hunger, the environment and childhood cancer — they are making a greater impact,
overcoming the challenges we see in our communities around the world.
6. Fourth organization is the
OPUS DEI
is a hierarchical institution of the Catholic Church, and a personal prelature. Its
purpose is to contribute to the evangelizing mission of the Church. Specifically, it
educates people about the universal call to sanctity and the sanctifying value of
ordinary work.
Opus Dei emphasizes uniting spiritual life with professional, social, and family life.
Members of Opus Dei lead ordinary lives, with traditional families and secular careers,
and strive to "sanctify ordinary life".
Opus Dei is an international lay Catholic group whose core ideal is the sanctification of
work. But critics and some former members have accused the group of having cult-like
practices and promoting a right-wing agenda.
With regards to influence
Influence
The main way the faithful of Opus Dei make a difference is through prayer. Every lay
person and priest in the Prelature, nearly 80,000 of them, pray daily for the Pope, for
bishops, for Christian unity, for this world they love so ardently. I’m convinced that this
personal and collective prayer, as it ascends to God continuously from all the continents,
does great good for the Church and for society.
7. Last organization is the
KNIGHT OF COLUMBUS
Knights of columbus is a catholic fraternal organization dedicated to promoting and
conducting educational, charitable, religious and social welfare works, rendering mutual
aid and assistance to sick and needy members and their families, and providing insurance
products and annuities to benefit members, wives and children.
Knights of Columbus are a fraternal brotherhood of men who volunteer time and talent
to support our priests, our churches, and our parish. They welcome men who recognize
that we all have gifts from God, have a willingness to share those gifts with others and
want to give graciously back to God.
Our goal is to help men, their families and their parishes grow closer
to Christ. Through our programs and resources, we provide
opportunities to live and spread the Catholic faith.
In conclusion,
People the world over engage in volunteerism for a great variety of reasons: to help to
eliminate poverty and to improve basic health and education, to provide safe water
supply and adequate sanitation, to tackle environmental issues and climate change, to
reduce the risk of disasters or to combat social exclusion and violent conflict. In all of
these fields, volunteerism makes a specific contribution by generating well-being for
people and their communities.
And, that is for today’s video discussion, leaving you a statement let’s all make the
world a better place to live one small action at a time.
