Semi-retired from his CEO role at D&M Leasing in Dallas, Micheal (Mike)
Albert Hernandez III uses his professional success to improve life in
Brownsville, Texas, the community where he grew up. In addition to
supporting a variety of community-based nonprofits, Mike Hernandez III
operates the Hernandez Foundation.
Recently, the Hernandez Foundation donated $250,000 to the Guadalupe
Regional Middle School (GRMS) in Brownsville. Combined with other
donations, the gift greatly increased the size of the independent Catholic
school’s endowment fund and will allow it to provide tuition-free education
to Brownsville students for years to come.
GRMS has a unique educational model that offers intensive support to
students who need it. The school has a total enrollment of 90 students with
student-teacher ratios of less than 10:1. The school day and year also are
extended for more instruction time, totaling more than 250 additional hours
of school annually compared with public school. The school also works to
build a faith community through regular prayer, Mass, and retreats.
