Kerberos is an authentication system that uses tickets and symmetric encryption to allow clients to securely prove their identity. It has a key distribution center (KDC) with an authentication server and ticket granting server. The KDC issues tickets to authenticated clients that can then be used to access services. When a client wants access to a service, it first gets a ticket-granting ticket from the authentication server, then uses that to get a service ticket from the ticket granting server which can be presented to the desired service. This provides secure single sign-on access within the Kerberos domain.
