Multimedia Content Understanding: Bringing Context to ContentBenoit HUET
There is a digital revolution happening right before our eyes, the way we communicate is rapidly changing dues to rapid technological advances. Pencil and paper communication is drastically reducing and being replaced with newer communication medium ranging from emails to sms/mms and other instant messaging services. Information/news used to be broadcasted only through official and dedicated channels such as television, radio or newspapers. The technology available today allows every single one of us to be individual information broadcasters whether through text, image or video using our personal connected mobile device. In effect, the current trend shows that video will soon become the most important media on the Internet. While the amount of multimedia content continuously increases there is still progress to be done for automatically understanding multimedia documents in order to provide means to index, search and browse them more effectively. The objectives of this chapter are three-fold. First, we will motivate multimedia content modeling research in the current technological context. Secondly, a broad state of the art will provide the reader with a brief overview of the methodological trends of the field. Thirdly, a bird eye view of the various research themes I have supervised and/or conducted will be presented and will expose how contextual information has become an important additional source of information for multimedia content understanding.

In 2020 more than50 billions devices will be connected over the Internet. Every device will be connected to
anything, anyone, anytime and anywhere in the world of Internet of Thing or IoT. This network will
generate tremendous unstructured or semi structured data that should be shared between different
devices/machines for advanced and automated service delivery in the benefits of the user’s daily life. Thus,
mechanisms for data interoperability and automatic service discovery and delivery should be offered.
Although many approaches have been suggested in the state of art, none of these researches provide a fully
interoperable, light, flexible and modular Sensing/Actuating as service architecture. Therefore, this paper
introduces a new Semantic Multi Agent architecture named OntoSmart for IoT data and service
management through service oriented paradigm. It proposes sensors/actuators and scenarios independent
flexible context aware and distributed architecture for IoT systems, in particular smart home systems.

Pervasiveness of ICT resources along with the promise of ubiquitous intelligence is pushing hard both our demand and our fears of AI: demand mandates for the ability to inject (micro) intelligence ubiquitously, fears compel the behaviour of intelligent systems to be observable, explainable, and accountable.
Whereas the first wave of the new "AI Era" was mostly heralded by non-symbolic approaches, features like explainability are better provided by symbolic techniques.
In this talk we focus on logic-based approaches, and discuss their potential in pervasive scenarios like the IoT and open (M)MAS along with our latest results in the field.

An assistive model of obstacle detection based on deep learning: YOLOv3 for v...IJECEIAES
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported in 2019 that at least 2.2 billion people were visual-impairment or blindness. The main problem of living for visually impaired people have been facing difficulties in moving even indoor or outdoor situations. Therefore, their lives are not safe and harmful. In this paper, we proposed an assistive application model based on deep learning: YOLOv3 with a Darknet-53 base network for visually impaired people on a smartphone. The Pascal VOC2007 and Pascal VOC2012 were used for the training set and used Pascal VOC2007 test set for validation. The assistive model was installed on a smartphone with an eSpeak synthesizer which generates the audio output to the user. The experimental result showed a high speed and also high detection accuracy. The proposed application with the help of technology will be an effective way to assist visually impaired people to interact with the surrounding environment in their daily life.

The LTCI* is a laboratory of Télécom ParisTech (Institut Mines-Télécom, IMT). Established in 1982, LTCI is characterized by its broad coverage of the field of information and communication science and technology (ICT). Its research activities range from the hardware layer (electronics, opto-electronics, system on chip, antennae, microwaves…) to the software layer (systems, algorithms, protocols…). They encompass studies on different kinds of data (audio, video, images, semi-structured data and web content) as well as works on network performance and services, or quantum cryptography issues.
Gemalto participated to EUREKA's High-Level Group and presented their take on EUREKA Clusters. The Clusters are seen as beeing part of the market value-chain. Flexibility, easy access for SMEs and ability to address the various TRL levels were the key point summing up the added value of EUREKA.
Software Engineering and Internet Technologies Laboratory - SEIT labChristos Mettouris
The Software Engineering and Internet Technologies Laboratory (SEIT) lab is part of the Computer Science Department of the University of Cyprus. The lab focuses its research activities on two important areas of Information Technology, namely Software Engineering and Internet Technologies. In the first area, SEIT focuses on Cloud Computing, Service Oriented Architectures, Context-Aware Middleware Platforms and Smart and Mobile Computing for the development of pervasive, self-adaptive applications and Smart IoT services. In the second area, the Laboratory concentrates on the development of ICT-enabled Environments, platforms and tools for implementing Health monitoring and support services, Smart and Personalised services for Elders, Assistive Technologies for people with disabilities and Creativity services. The lab also pursues activities related to Technology Enhanced Learning, E-Business, E-Government and developing environments for elders' social inclusion, active ageing and independent living. Finally, the lab's research is also related to Creativity, Recommender Systems and Crowd Sourcing.
