Kelly Skinner graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education. Throughout her education and career, she has volunteered extensively working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes volunteering at Special Olympics, camps for people with Down syndrome, and as a teacher's assistant helping students with life and job skills. Currently, she is an advisor for Best Buddies clubs that aims to foster friendships between students with and without disabilities.

* During my educational career at ASU I volunteered for the SDAP program which allows
students with Intellectual Disabilities to attend college through a two year program. This
particular student was a recent graduate of Watauga High School and was able to take
CPR, Life guarding and Appalachian Music Studies classes. My volunteer job consisted of
one hour a week spending time with this student in the community visiting the library and
various shops in Boone. I provided extra tutoring help to this student and provided
assistance with money skills. More importantly, I helped her have a fulfilling college
