OBJECTIVE:
To serve the individuals with Special Needs to set and achieve their goals, providing
the access and support they need on an individual basis.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
I have completed over twenty-four years of teaching in Maryland and Delaware
Public Schools, including fifteen years as a Special Education classroom teacher.
My skills include flexibility and the knowledge necessary to readily assume
teaching duties in several areas. I lived in Europe for five years and have ministered
in American Service Centers and in indigenous German, Italian, Scottish, British and
Dutch churches during my European Bible Seminary education. I understand the
challenges of adjusting to living and learning cross-culturally
My experience with and understanding of Deaf culture and fluency in American
Sign Language would prove invaluable in working with Deaf students or in giving
instruction in American Sign Language.
I have taught English Language Arts and Math in middle and high school
settings for most of my career. Since I have had experience teaching students with
learning and emotional difficulties, I feel I could be an effective resource person in
helping implement their plans and work with the inter-disciplinary team.
I worked as a Program Manager with Dorchester Developmental Unit for 6
years with developmentally disabled adults as Recreation Coordinator and as
Program Director.

DUTIES: I taught students grades 6-8 in an Intensive Learning Center setting.
During the first year, I taught Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies and
Science with the assistance of two paraprofessionals. My instruction focused on
the individual needs of students who had a variety of disabilities: emotional,
behavioral, specific learning needs and often, a combination of several situations.
During my second year, I co-taught with a regular education math teacher, and
one other Special Educator. I was responsible for developing job descriptions and
assignments for two paraprofessionals, set schedules and arrange for weekly
group guidance. I wrote and implemented IEPs, worked with psychologists,
counselors and other professionals to develop behavior plans for my students and
to help them get the services they needed.

DUTIES: I taught Life Skills, Daily Living Skills, Personal and Social Skills and
Vocational Skills to students ages 18-21 in a community setting in Denton,
Maryland.
In addition to providing instruction according to the students’ I.E.P.s, my duties
included performing assessments, completing Functional Behavioral Analyses,
working with school psychologists on Behavior Intervention Plans.
I was responsible for documenting behaviors, and all aspects of record-
keeping involved in the case management of 7-10 students. I established and
maintained relationships with parents, community and school-related service
providers and prepared the students with the skills they needed to work in the
community and to transition into adulthood. I worked with the Transition

6. DUTIES: I worked with students in Head Start, 2 elementary schools, one
middle school and one high school with Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in
inclusive regular classroom settings. I also co-taught in the regular classroom
as well as in small groups and in one-to-one tutoring. I also had the
opportunity to interpret from spoken English to American Sign Language for
one high school student in the regular classroom.
