2. qIn India, discriminatory attitude towards men
and women have existed for generations and
affect the lives of both genders. Although the
constitution of India has granted men and
women equal rights, but women are considered
inferior to men . The sole reason is preference of a
boy over a girl .
qThe root cause of GENDER DISCRIMINATION
in India is the Strong Patriarchal Influence ,
sanctioned by India’s religion, culture and
traditions.
Ø Son is seen as a status symbol , who brings
dowry and carries forward the family’s name.
Ø Women are considered to be born as baggage ,
a liability and a curse to the family.
INTRODUCTION
In INDIA , men
are considered
superior than
women.
3. THE BIG REASON………
An Age Old ‘PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY’ in India
Property rights only for SONS
Son as the status symbol
Baap ko kandha dene wala
Ladki paraye ghar ka dhan
Ladki ghar ki ijjat
4. Some Questions ????
ØWhy only Seeta had to give Agni
Pariksha and not Lord Ram??
ØWhy do only the Sisters ,
Daughters , Wives and Mothers have to
do fast for the good of their man and
not men??
ØWhy can’t boy brings Dowry like the
girls do??
ØWhy can’t girl inherit the property of
her father??
5. Thinks of World without Women
qSex ratio decline in India.
qCorrelation between development
and sex ratio.
q78% of labour forces in
agriculture are women folk.
qAlmost 100% kitchen work ,
child care and household
work is taken care of exclusively
by women.

GENDER DISCRIMINATION ..

üPre-natal sex –determination was
banned in India in 1994 , under the
Pre-conception and Prenatal
Diagnostic Techniques(Prohibition of

human trafficking .
8. qIn India, dowry refers to the
durable goods, cash, and real or
movable property that the bride's
family gives to the bridegroom, his
parents, or his relatives as a
condition of the marriage.
qDue to the burden of dowry , most
of the people in India prefer males
as they will get Dowry at the time of
his Wedding. And consider female
as burden due to Dowry System.
qIf Dowry is not given , girls are
tortured and killed in many cases in
India.
qEven if Dowry is given , girls are
still tortured and even killed for
Dowry Torture
9. vThe female child in India is often deprived
from her right of an education. The number
of girls dropping out of school far exceeds the
boys because girls are expected to help at
home, either with household work like
washing and cooking or with taking care of
younger siblings. Educating male instead of
female is considered more important.
vEven at workplace women in India suffers
from Gender Discrimination , they are paid
less as compared to males and are even
molested , harassed and blackmailed.
Inequality in Education and
at Workplace..
10. Rape Cases
qIn last few years the number of rape
cases have been higher than the no of
runs scored by Virat Kohli in a Calender
Year..
qAccording to UN , rapes and sexual
harassment is a chief problem in India.
qIn India , a new Rape case is reported
every 22 minutes.
qIt has actually turned out to be the
Bermuda Triangle for the rape victims
as justice is almost impossible to find.
11. Need of the Hour???qStrict actions should be taken against
sex determination test and illegal abortion.
qWomen should be given “Equal pay for
Equal work.
qStrict measures should be taken to
prevent and eliminate violence against
women.
qWomen should be given equal rights and
responsibilities and a chance to participate
in decision making and leadership.
qEnsure equal access to education and
eradicate illiteracy.
qMeasures must be taken to save GIRL
CHILD.
qWomen themselves should say NO to the
Social Evils prevailing in the Society.
12. Personal OpinionØIn my opinion in India , Gender
Discrimination can only be wiped out by
educating women and upgrading their
status in the society.
ØOur Indian Culture encourages us to
worship Goddesses . We not only need to
worship their Idols but also respect them
from the core of our heart.
ØThere is a need that people in India
to change their mindset and understand
that Length of the Fabric on Women’s body
does not give the measure of her Character.
ØIn order to eliminate GENDER
DISCRIMINATION , we need to help
women to come shoulder to shoulder
with men as women are EQUAL to men.
