This document discusses prevention of eating addictions. It begins by establishing links between eating and the brain's reward system, and discusses common eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia. Prevention programs should aim to educate the public on signs and risks while also addressing cultural issues and low self-esteem. Effective prevention addresses societal pressures around thinness and gender roles while building self-esteem. Primary prevention targets youth through educating teachers and using books to promote healthy attitudes. Relapse prevention involves follow-up care and helping those recovering identify personal triggers.

The document discusses the six main components of food: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and fibers. It provides details on each: carbohydrates and fats provide energy; proteins aid tissue repair; vitamins and minerals support normal body functioning; and fibers come from plants. The document also discusses water, how the body uses it and loses it, and the importance of staying hydrated.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder, thought to affect between 4%–8% of women of reproductive age. Due to a lack of awareness, and the dramatic variation in the signs and symptoms between individuals, a large number of women may have PCOS without being at all aware of it. Unless help is sought for common symptoms (including oily skin and recurring acne; irregular, infrequent or absent periods; excess facial and body hair growth; head hair loss or thinning; weight gain) a formal diagnosis may never be made and issues can persist unmanaged until menopause. PCOS is most commonly diagnosed in women hoping to become pregnant, but who experience fertility issues as a result of irregular ovulation or miscarriage. In this webinar, Dr Nina Bailey PhD outlines the key mechanisms in the pathophysiology of PCOS, the signs and symptoms that should trigger further investigation, and the key nutritional strategies that can be adopted to help women manage the condition.
Feeding strategy
• Animal Requirements change with criteria: need to take into account various parameters to optimise performance
- need to take into account complexity due to variability of response and interaction,
no single dose response
- Availability of new tools to integrate complexity (model for dietary formulaƟon)
• Feed recommendation in sustainable system should integrate three objectives: production performance, environment and welfare
Product quality
• Limited influence on lipid fraction
• Effects on oxidation remains controversial
- anƟoxidant vs pro-oxidant
- interacƟons between level and duration of trace elements dietary level, issue, slaughtering conditions, product packaging and transformation, cooking.
• Good potential of product enrichment in trace mineral but limitation due to Regulation in
animal and human feeding and due to toxicity level for animals
Jaylor’s Ruminant Nutritionist, Janet Kleinschmidt, explains why adding fat to the diet of dairy cows become a common practice for most high production herds.

Physical and chemical tests for silage quality 2PMAS-UAAR
The document discusses factors that influence silage quality such as the forage harvested and fermentation process. It provides guidance on sampling silage for testing and describes some common physical and chemical tests used to assess silage quality, including checking appearance and smell, measuring pH and dry matter content, and determining levels of acids and ammonia. Proper fermentation is indicated by a pH below 4.2, lactic acid content between 4-6%, and a lactic to acetic acid ratio above 3:1. These tests can help farmers identify issues and improve silage management.
The document provides guidelines for healthy eating, exercise, and relaxation techniques. It recommends eating more vegetable oils and whole grains while limiting pasta and white bread according to the healthy eating pyramid. People should aim for 30 minutes of moderate daily activity like brisk walking, biking, or gardening. Relaxation can be achieved through quieting the mind and body with visualization or yoga. Following these guidelines lowers health risks like cholesterol and blood pressure while helping to prevent diseases and maintain a healthy weight.
During this webinar Kyla discusses the potential causes of thyroid issues and the signs and symptoms to look out for in order to determine whether thyroid dysfunction may be a factor in your clients’ conditions. The negative health effects of thyroid dysfunction, including alterations in metabolism, skin health, digestive issues and fertility, will be covered. Kyla then goes on to discuss the tests available to better understand the extent and type of thyroid dysfunction and the nutritional and lifestyle approach to support thyroid health.
A manual with information on the key practicable points for diets and physical activity for
Indians to ensure optimal health and freedom from disease was proposed for the first time in 1998 by the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN).
Obesity is caused by consuming more calories than burned. It affects over 1.5 billion people worldwide, with the highest rates in the US at 68% of the population. Body weight can be controlled through diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, anti-obesity drugs, and surgery. Approved anti-obesity drugs include Orlistat which reduces fat absorption, and newer drugs like Qysmia and Lorcaserin which suppress appetite. Herbal supplements for weight loss include green tea, chitosan, and chromium picolinate, but they have potential side effects and their efficacy is unclear. Long-term lifestyle management is important for sustainable weight control and reducing health risks of obesity.
This document provides a collection of traditional and homemade recipes for infants and toddlers between 6 months and 2 years old. It includes recipes for nutri-mix powder, vegi-mix, khichidi, rice kanji, egg pudding, almond-rava mix, aloo roti, carrot juice, beet juice, boiled banana, and boiled apple. The author compiled the recipes to reintroduce the value of homemade infant foods and promote healthy eating. Notes are included on introducing new foods and finger foods to babies.
This document discusses rice grains, rice tips, rice bran, and rice polish used in animal nutrition. It covers the introduction, nutritional composition, production/yield, anti-nutritional factors, inclusion levels in different animal feeds, and price per kg for each item. Rice grains are a common feed ingredient and provide energy, protein, and minerals. Rice byproducts like rice tips, bran and polish are also used in feeds for their nutritional value and lower price compared to grains. Anti-nutritional factors in the bran are reduced by processing. Inclusion levels vary by animal type, with ruminants tolerating higher levels than poultry.
Heat stress occurs in dairy cattle when the animal cannot dissipate enough heat to maintain its normal body temperature. The temperature humidity index (THI) is used to measure heat stress, with values above 68 indicating the start of heat stress and above 78 considered dangerous. High temperatures and humidity impair the cow's ability to cool through sweating and panting, reducing feed intake, milk production and fertility. Proper management through shade, cooling, and adjusting feeding times can help alleviate heat stress in dairy cattle.
This document discusses the role of nutrition in managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It begins by providing background on PCOS, including its prevalence, pathophysiology, and diagnostic criteria. It then discusses common comorbidities like obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. Lifestyle interventions like modest weight loss through diet and exercise are recommended as first-line treatment. Pharmacological options and herbal supplements that may help with PCOS symptoms by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing androgens are also outlined. The document concludes that combined nutritional supplements and lifestyle changes are effective and safe management strategies for women with PCOS.
Metabolic Syndrome and Dietary Guidelines for its preventionnutritionistrepublic
The document summarizes dietary guidelines for preventing metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes and related disorders in Asian Indians. It recommends a diet with 50-60% calories from complex carbohydrates, 10-15% from proteins, less than 30% from total fats including less than 7% from saturated fats. It emphasizes whole grains, pulses, vegetables and fruits, moderate intake of dairy and non-vegetarian foods, and healthy cooking oils like olive and canola oil. Regular physical activity and lifestyle modifications are also recommended.
Nutrition is the greatest challenge faced by women of all ages in this busy era. This depends on the individualistic metabolism apart from the calorie intake and energy output.

This document discusses dietary fiber, including its types, sources, and health benefits. It defines fiber as non-digestible carbohydrates found in plants. Dietary fiber is classified into soluble and insoluble types. Sources of fiber include beans, corn, prunes, and high-fiber cereals. Fiber promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, and aids in weight control. The document recommends gradually increasing fiber intake with extra water to reduce gas and bloating.
The document provides guidance on healthy eating using the food pyramid for adults and children over 5 years old. It emphasizes the importance of portion sizes and choosing a variety of foods from the bottom four shelves which provide essential nutrients. Foods on the top shelf such as those high in fat, sugar, and salt are best limited and provide few vitamins and minerals. The document provides examples of serving sizes and recommendations for daily servings from each shelf based on age, gender, and activity level.

The document summarizes several presentations given at a seminar on forest and plant health held on November 11th, 2022 at the Natural Resources Institute Finland in Helsinki.
The first presentation summarized a 20-year study on the effects of restoration treatments including prescribed burning, dead wood creation, and retention trees on dead wood diversity and epixylic communities in boreal spruce forests. Preliminary findings showed long-term benefits of these treatments for maintaining dead wood and wood-inhabiting diversity.
The second presentation discussed a study on intraspecific growth variation in Norway spruce, finding that soil variation and genetic factors significantly influence functional trait variation, but specific soil agents causing environment-specific growth patterns require more research
This document summarizes a seminar on forest and plant health held on April 6th, 2022 at the Natural Resources Institute Finland in Helsinki. It includes summaries of several presentations:
1. Tord Snäll presented research on evaluating forest management scenarios and their impacts on biodiversity indicators and ecosystem services over 100 years. The green infrastructure scenario optimized environmental indicators while the economy scenario had the most negative impacts.
2. Juha Tuomola discussed research assessing the likelihood of pine wood nematode causing pine wilt disease or establishing in Finnish forests under current and future climate scenarios. Results found the climate is currently too cool and may only become suitable by 2080 under the worst-case climate scenario.

This document summarizes a study analyzing 123 texts written by Finnish high school students aged 15-18 describing their visions of sustainable food systems in Finland in 2050. Through qualitative analysis, the students' visions were condensed into 6 alternative futures: 1) Slow change 2) Domestic and local production 3) Conscious consumer 4) Regulation 5) Technology 6) Dystopia. The visions highlighted big changes to diets and food sources, concerns about plastic packaging, and ensuring social and economic sustainability through eating together and valuing producers. The students proposed technological solutions and ideas to reduce packaging waste through better recycling, less packaging, new materials, and reuse.
The document summarizes research on how emotions play a role in strategic packaging decisions for sustainability. It discusses how packaging development requires balancing usability, saleability, environmental friendliness and production effectiveness. Managers face dilemmas in balancing these factors as sustainability targets change. The research examines how emotions like satisfaction, frustration, and worry influence how managers evaluate opportunities and make decisions. It proposes that understanding emotions can help managers commit to responsible packaging solutions and navigate uncertainties when sustainability goals are evolving.
This document discusses sustainability decisions for businesses. It notes that sustainability can provide competitive advantages like efficiency, reputation benefits, and avoiding future regulations. However, sustainability orientation does not always lead to improved firm performance and may require large trade-offs. Studies discussed found that willingness to switch to more sustainable materials depends on factors like a product or process's dependency on existing materials and environmental friendliness as a predictor of change. The document advocates making sustainability decisions by responding to and anticipating stakeholder needs and feelings, including others' perspectives, and considering one's responsibilities.
This document discusses sustainability transitions in food packaging from the perspective of companies. It defines sustainability transitions as long-term transformations to more sustainable production and consumption. For food packaging, this involves innovations that meet changing societal values around policy, media, consumer and supply chain demands. However, barriers like complexity, uncertainty and competition exist. Collaboration is seen as key to overcoming barriers by creating shared understanding and multi-party problem solving. Currently, companies collaborate through associations, but different roles in relation to change exist, from maintaining the status quo to facilitating change. Ongoing and upcoming facilitated dialogues and the PackageHeroes transition arena aim to further cross-system collaboration for deciding concrete transition pathways.

Kannattavan ruokinnan perusta on kustannustehokas rehuntuotanto
• Korkeiden rehukustannusten syinä voivat olla muun muassa:
– kallis ostorehu
– pellon alhainen tuotto
– rehun haaskaus: rehua tuotetaan liian paljon kulutukseen nähden
Alustuksen pääpaino kasvavan naudan ruokinnassa
Rehun tuotantokustannus ja peltoviljelyssä onnistuminen asettavat kuitenkin aina
reunaehdot yrityksen taloudelliselle tulokselle.
3. 3
On mahdotonta korostaa liikaa vapaan
rehun saannin ja riittävän veden saannin merkitystä naudan terveydelle ja
tuotokselle.

8. Tärkein yksittäinen säilörehun ruokinnallista laatua kuvaava
mittari on D-arvo eli sulavan orgaanisen aineen osuus kuiva-
aineesta (g/kg ka).
Lihanaudoille syötettävän säilörehun suositeltava D-arvo olisi
ruokintatutkimusten perusteella 680–710 g/kg ka.
Varhain korjattua säilörehua syöneet naudat ovat kasvaneet
ruokintatutkimuksissa paremmin kuin myöhemmin korjatulla
säilörehulla ruokitut.
Säilörehun sulavuuden vaikutus eläinten kasvuun kuitenkin
vaihtelee tutkimusten välillä.
8 15.3.2021
Säilörehun sulavuuden merkitys
9. Parantuneella säilörehun sulavuudella saavutettu nettokasvun
lisäys on tutkimusaineistoissa keskimäärin 1,4 g/pv säilörehun
D-arvon yhden gramman nousua kohti.
Toisin sanoen eläinten nettokasvu parani aineistossa 14 g/pv,
kun säilörehun D-arvo nousi 10 g/kg ka.
D-arvo 670 680, niin nettokasvu lisääntyy noin 14 g/pv.
9 15.3.2021
Säilörehun sulavuus
10. Syönti-indeksi kuvaa säilörehun suhteellista syöntipotentiaalia.
Tyypillisesti indeksipistearvo on välillä 90–110.
Syönti-indeksiin vaikuttavat esimerkiksi säilörehun kuiva-
ainepitoisuus, D-arvo, kokonaishappojen ja kuidun pitoisuudet,
korjuukerta (ensimmäinen sato tai jälkikasvu) sekä palkokasvien
ja kokoviljasäilörehun osuudet.

Säilörehun syönti-indeksi
11. Vapaalla seosrehuruokinnalla yhden syönti-indeksipisteen
vaikutus rehun kokonaissyöntiin on noin 15–20 grammaa kuiva-
ainetta päivässä.
Toisin sanoen, jos syönti-indeksi nousee arvosta 90 arvoon 100,
sonnin päivittäinen rehun syönti lisääntyy noin 150–200 kuiva-
ainegrammaa päivässä.
Rehuannoksen koostumuksesta sekä eläimen elopainosta ja
kasvutasosta riippuen edellä mainittu syönnin lisäys tarkoittaa
noin 2–3 megajoulen päivittäistä lisäystä energian saannissa.
Tämä lisäys voi parantaa sonnin nettopäiväkasvua tilanteesta
riippuen noin 25–50 grammaa päivässä.
11 15.3.2021
Säilörehun syönti-indeksi
on todennäköisesti korkea.
Tällaisissa tapauksissa rehu on yleensä tehty ilman
säilöntäainetta. Lisäksi hyvin märissä olosuhteissa myös
biologisen säilönnän epäonnistumisriski on kasvaa.

Olennaista on että:
Kokoviljasäilörehu korjataan taikinatuleentumisasteella
Liian aikainen korjuu:
- vähentää rehusadon määrää
- vähentää rehusadon energiapitoisuutta
Liian myöhäinen korjuu johtaa helposti siihen että:
=> rehusta tulee kuivaa ja kuitupitoista
=> vaikea tiivistää => herkkä pilaantumiselle

Sonnien kasvu- ja teurastulokset
Ohrakokoviljaa saaneiden sonnien kasvut olivat korkeimmat ja kevätruisvehnää ainoana
karkearehuna saaneiden sonnien kasvu jäi hieman muita ryhmiä matalammaksi.
Kokoviljasäilörehuja saaneet sonnit pystyivät kompensoimaan heikompaa D-arvoa
rehun syöntimäärää lisäämällä. Tulosten perusteella kevätruisvehnä näyttäisi soveltuvan
kohtuullisen hyvin sonnien ruokintaan varsinkin nurmisäilörehun kanssa seoksena.

Kokoviljasäilörehu yhteenveto
Viljelykokeiden tulokset kannustavat nautatiloja kokoviljan viljelyyn.
Potentiaaliset satotasot ovat niin korkeat, että tuotantokustannusten
pieneneminen korjuu- ja lannoituskustannusten pienentymisen kautta on
houkutteleva vaihtoehto.
Kokoviljasäilörehun sulavuus on yleensä jonkin verran hyvälaatuista
nurmisäilörehua matalampi. Tällöin kasvutulos jää yleensä hieman
matalammaksi, jos nurmisäilörehu korvataan kokonaan
kokoviljasäilörehulla kasvavan naudan ruokinnassa. Todennäköisesti paras
vaihtoehto olisi korvata noin puolet dieetin nurmisäilörehusta
24. Viljojen ja palkokasvien seosviljely
Herne ja härkäpapu
Sulavuus korkeampi kuin viljoilla
Sisältävät enemmän valkuaista kuin
viljat
Haastavampia säilöä: kosteus,
matala sokeripitoisuus,
puskurikapasiteetti
24
25. Palkokasvirehun korjuu haastavaa
Niitto karholle ja paalaus
– Parhaat osat, palot ja lehdet karisevat helposti
maahan
– Paalit ovat todella painavia kosteina
– Verkkoa ja muovia pitää käyttää normaalia enemmän
– Karhon kuivuminen on hidasta, erityisesti loppukesällä
ja pöyhiminen lisää karisemistappioita
25
Suoraniittopäällä varustettu ajosilppuri
• Tehokas ja nopea
• Rehu kärryyn eikä peltoon
• Märkä kasvusto tuottaa paljon puristenestettä siilossa
26. Ruokinnassa
Palkokasvien käytössä suuremmat haasteet ovat viljelyssä,
korjuussa ja ruokintamenetelmissä kuin ravitsemuksessa
Sopivat ruokintaan seoksena nurmisäilörehun kanssa lypsäville
ja lihanaudoille ainoana karkearehuna
Märehtijät syövät enemmän useammasta kuin yhdestä
kasvilajista tehtyä säilörehua
Pelkän palkokasvisäilörehun valkuaispitoisuus suhteessa
sulavaan energiaan voi nousta korkeaksi
– typen hyväksikäyttö huononee
– sonnan ja erityisesti virtsan mukana erittyvä typen määrä
lisääntyy
26
28. Väkirehun hinta vaihtelee:
paineet vähentää/lisätä
väkirehujen käyttöä kasvavien
nautojen ruokinnassa.
Väkirehumäärän muutokset
voivat vaikuttaa merkittävästi
eläinten tuotantotuloksiin.
Säilörehun laatu on kuitenkin
avainasemassa.
28 15.3.2021
Säilörehun laatu vs. väkirehun määrä
29. Säilörehun sulavuus vaikuttaa ratkaisevasti tarvittavan
väkirehun määrään.
Väkirehulisällä saatu kasvuvaste pienenee säilörehun
sulavuuden parantuessa.
Tutkimusaineistossa yhden väkirehun kuiva-ainekilon lisäys
syönnissä, paransi eläinten päiväkasvua keskimäärin 92 g/pv.
(nettokasvu 48 g/pv).
Pienimmillään väkirehuvaste oli 18 g/pv (nettokasvu 9 g/pv)
säilörehun D-arvolla 688 g/kg ka.
Suurin väkirehuvaste (198 g/pv) (nettokasvu 103 g/pv) havaittiin
erittäin heikosti sulavalla säilörehulla (D-arvo 563 g/kg ka).
29 15.3.2021
Säilörehun laatu vs. väkirehun määrä
30. Väkirehulisästä saatuun tuotosvasteeseen vaikuttaa säilörehun
laadun lisäksi muun muassa se, millaisilla väkirehun
annostusmäärillä lisäys tehdään.
Ensimmäisillä lisäväkirehukiloilla saadaan yleensä parhaat
kasvuvasteet, ja väkirehulisäyksestä saatava vaste vähenee
väkirehuannoksen noustessa.
30 15.3.2021
Säilörehun laatu vs. väkirehun määrä
31. REHUVILJA
Viljan energia-arvoa arvioidaan
hehtolitrapainolla.
Kevyt vilja sisältää suhteessa enemmän
kuitua ja vähemmän tärkkelystä.
Kevyempää viljaa täytyy käyttää
enemmän saman kasvutason
ylläpitämiseksi.
Ohran ja kauran hehtolitrapainon
laskiessa kymmenen kiloa, niitä täytyy
käyttää 5-10 % enemmän.
33. RUIS
Suomessa on aiemmin suositeltu, että naudoilla rukiin määrä
väkirehuseoksessa tulisi olla alle 20 % (korkeintaan 10 %
päivittäisestä rehun kuiva-aineesta).
Rukiin rehukäytön esteenä on pidetty sen muita rehuviljoja
heikompaa maittavuutta sekä tiettyjä rukiin sisältämiä haitta-aineita.
Rukiin lajikekanta on uudistunut, ja leipäviljaksi kelpaamattomien
ruiserien rehukäyttö nautojen ruokinnassa on uuden kokeen
perusteella mahdollista aikaisempaa suositusta laajemmassa
mittakaavassa.
Ruis on energia-arvoltaan hieman ohraa parempi, mutta
valkuaispitoisuudeltaan ohraa heikompi. Hehtolitranpaino on
normaalisti noin 70 kg.
ruokintaan.
34. RUIS
Vuoden 2017 aikana toteutetussa ruokintakokeessa maitorotuiset
Seosrehussa:
Energia: 11,75 MJ/kg ka
PVT: 10 – 11 g/kg ka
Raakavalkuainen: 139 – 140 g/kg ka
Tärkkelys: 189 – 207 g/kg ka
36. Viljan säilöntämenetelmä ei itsessään vaikuta rehuarvoon
Erilaisilla viljan säilöntätavoilla (kuivaus, jyväsäilöntä,
murskesäilöntä, ilmatiivissäilöntä) ei ole vaikutusta lihanautojen
kasvutuloksiin, joten viljan säilöntätavan valinta voidaan tehdä muilla
perusteilla.
Kuivatun ja tuoresäilötyn viljan sulavuus on sama, mikä näkyy
samanlaisista rehutaulukon energia-arvoista.
Vilja on aina sulavuuden parantamiseksi litistettävä tai jauhettava
karkeasti.
Hienoksi jauhettu vilja maittaa naudoille karkeaksi jauhettua
huonommin.
Tuoresäilötty vilja maittaa yleensä hyvin naudoille. Maittavuus voi
olla kuivattua viljaa parempi, mikä on joissakin kokeissa lisännyt
syöntiä ja parantanut eläintuotosta kuivattuun viljaan verrattuna.
37. Ruokinnan kannalta olennaista tuoreviljalla:
Homeet huonontavat maittavuutta
ja rehuarvoa.

Valkuaislisä lihanaudoille on iäisyysaihe, josta on esitetty varmoja mielipiteitä puolesta ja vastaan. Ympäristön
kannalta se on yksinomaan haitallista. Lisävalkuaisesta aiheutuu ylimääräistä typpi- mutta myös
fosforikuormaa ympäristölle. Rypsi on joissain tapauksissa parantanut sonnien kasvua, mutta Huuskosen
mukaan se selittyy yleensä energiavaikutuksella. Energialisä on kuitenkin halvempi hakea rehuviljasta”.

47
48. 15.3.2021
48
Valkuaislisäruokinnan tuotosvasteet
Ruhon laatu:
Valkuaislisän ei ole todettu vaikuttavan millään
tavalla ruhon lihakkuuteen.
Sen sijaan valkuaislisä lisäsi tilastollisesti
merkitsevästi ruhojen rasvoittumista.
Tämä vaikutus oli kuitenkin numeerisesti niin
pieni, ettei sillä ole mitään käytännön
merkitystä.
49. 15.3.2021
49
Valkuaislisän merkitys
Käytännössä törmätään joskus tilanteisiin, jossa eläinten kasvut heikkenevät, kun
rypsi jätetään pois rehuannoksesta tai vastaavasti kasvut paranevat
valkuaislisäruokinnalla.
Useimmissa tapauksissa taustalla lienee nimenomaan muutos energiaruokinnassa,
Lihanautojen ruokinnassa
