of Congo)

Denver, CO., Jan. 22, 2019
About KCP
To work with about 2,000 small-holder farmers around Karawa,
 To enhance the productivity of their existing coffee
 To intensify their growing of coffee and food crops for local market
supply.
 Improve the household incomes and the rural livelihoods of the
Karawa region population
Aim:
Purpose:
C.E.U.M
Why Coffee ?
 Coffee used to be among the main drivers of
DRC’s National Economy.
 North and South Ubangi were among top coffee
production regions within DR Congo.
 Civil conflict and disease of the coffee trees,
combined with a period of low prices (2000 –
2004 caused production in these provinces to
decline drastically.
 Coffee remains a strong preference of the farmers as a cash crop,
 Demand both in the internal market and internationally for
Robusta Coffee, is growing rapidly,
 Production costs are low compared to other Robusta producing
countries,
 DR Congo is identified in climate change models as one of the
countries which is likely to have the best growing conditions (in
the world) for coffee, looking 20– 30yearsahead.
Facts:
Opportunity :
Blessed by its :
 Size : 905’400 mi2 (1/4 USA)
 Population : approx. 80 millions
 Climate :Tropical
 Hydrography : Congo River
The DR Congo offers favorable conditions for the
the cultivation of Coffee (Arabica & Robusta).
How ?
Our Approach Identification of producers
Training of producers Good Agricultural Practices and
improvement of existing coffee tree stock
-Establishment of Nurseries with improved varieties
from reliable sources (ONC, INERA)
-Development of appropriate associated crops for
intercropping
-Producers Organization Formation (Training of
management staff, as well as farmers, in basic
business management principles to ensure
sustainability for long-term)
Expected Results:
Production and sale of over 1000 metric tons of coffee by year 4
Farm gate sale value US$ 1,5 million (2017 values)
Production of 300 - 500 tons of other crops – Farm gate sale
value to be assessed
Approx. 2000 farmers trained in good agricultural practices and
farm management
Farmer organization established and operational, covering
operating costs from income from sales commissions
Sustainable development of the agricultural potential of the
Karawa area.
Thank you
for
your kind attention
Gratitude
to
For loving and supporting the people of the DR Congo
