This document is a collection of poems and reflections from a young writer. It includes 6 poems about ordinary objects like lemonade, magnets, books, doors, and birds. Each poem is followed by a short reflection on what inspired the poem and how it was written. At the end is a reflection on choosing to write about ordinary objects and a preference for silly, rhyming poems. Images are attributed to various photographers on Flickr to accompany each poem.

2. _xÅÉÇtwx
Sour, sweet,
Large, petite,
Torture, treat,
This is what I like to eat.
A hint of mint,
A bit of lime,
It only costs one dime.
3. Reflection
I was inspired to write “Lemonade”
because, when I was little I wanted to
have a lemonade stand. I used rhyme
in this poem. I chose to write in rhyme
because , poems that rhyme draw me
in. This poem really, how should I put
it? Flowed to me.
4. Magnet
Magnet sticking on the wall
I wonder why it’s there at all.
Blue, yellow, white,
It’s such a pretty sight.
Purple, orange, red,
The image has embedded it self inside my
head.
Magnet sticking on the wall
I wonder why it’s there at all.
5. Reflection
I was inspired to write “Magnet” because, I
have a lot of magnets in my house. I also
think magnets are really fun. I used rhyme
and repetition. I used both these tools
because they draw me in. This poem took
some thinking.
6. Book
A book is like a brick, hard and
empty.
But when you open it, it’s like opening a
door to a new world.
Once you start you can’t stop, you’re
hooked until the last page.
Then the Åtz|v is over.
The book is like a brick, hard and empty.
7. Reflection
I was inspired to write the poem “Book”
because, I love to read. The poem also
describes how I feel. I used observations
about books. This poem flowed to me as
well.
8. Door
Metal, wood, oak,
Eat a door it’ll make you choke.
Timber, iron, straw,
Then again you can’t eat a
door raw.
9. Reflection
I was inspired to write “door” because, There’s
something mysterious about doors, you open them and
you don’t know were they’ll lead. I used rhyme AGAIN
because it draws me in.
11. Reflection
I was inspired to write “Bird” because, I hear
birds every day. I wonder what kind of birds they
are. I don’t know why I rhymed at the end, this
poem just came to me randomly.

13. My Anthology
Reflection
I wanted to write poems about ordinary
objects because, I knew that I would
have a lot of choice when writing about
ordinary objects. I learned as a poetry
writer I prefer silly poems that rhyme.
