This document summarizes the results of information sessions held with 174 participants including superintendents, trustees, IT leaders, and other educational leaders in Alberta, Canada. The sessions collected responses on how important technology is to enabling change, participants' involvement in strategic technology decisions, their confidence in making such decisions, how technology is included in strategic planning and budgeting, the reliability of critical IT services, and the role of the IT department. Key findings showed most felt technology was very important or difficult to enable change without, many were involved in decisions or consulted, and most saw the IT department as a service provider or education partner rather than just a cost center.
Retirement Plans Under Attack by Plan Participants and Government Agencies: A...Human Capital Media
Recently, the courts have made it easier for retirement plan participants to sue plan fiduciaries on grounds ranging from inadequate plan investments and excessive plan fees or misstatements regarding plan benefits. Both the IRS and DOL have been aggressively auditing plans and holding employers’ feet to the fire when perceived violations are found. Employers now, more than ever, must take seriously their role as the stewards of their 401(k) plans. In this session, we will discuss best practices for fiduciary governance especially in light of the DOL’s new fiduciary rules, and specific steps that can be taken to protect plan fiduciaries. We will also discuss areas of concern to employers in their role as plan administrators and the best way to protect plans from administrative miscues.

Symantec 2011 Information Retention and eDiscovery Survey Global Key FindingsSymantec
Symantec’s 2011 Information Retention and eDiscovery Survey examines how enterprises manage their ever-growing volumes of electronically stored information and prepare for the eventuality of an eDiscovery request. The survey of legal and IT personnel at 2,000 enterprises worldwide found email is not the primary source of records companies must produce, and more importantly, respondents who employ best practices for records and information management are significantly less at risk of court sanctions or fines.
Many CIOs at leading companies have evolved their job descriptions to become change agents who champion business model innovation. But this change has not been the case for all CIOs, or to the same degree. Our study finds that leaders outside the IT organization have often, purposely or necessarily, become the digital leaders for their business.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Editor's Notes
Ever wish you could read the mind of your leader – so that you could really understand what he or she wants and needs…and what he or she really thinks about IT?Us too. But since province-wide EEGs are not a viable solution, we had to go to Plan B: ask them.
Two goals: raise awareness of supports available to school jurisdictions with respect to IT Governance, IT Service Management and Information Security Management and gather input from participants to inform our agenda for the upcoming year.
