150th Living History Program
Two months after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, two former
Confederate soldiers, Capt. George Summers and Sgt. Isaac Koontz,
from Page County, Va., were executed without trial by Union troops
on Rude’s Hill, north of New Market.
On the same date 150 years later, a ceremony commemorating the
execution of Capt. Summers and Sgt. Koontz will be held on-site at
the monument. Program will include a color guard and a wreath-
laying by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and descendants
of Capt. Summers.
Presented by the Page County Sesquicentennial Committee and the
Jack Adams Camp SCV, in association with the Shenandoah Valley
Battlefields Foundation. Free. Signs will indicate parking. Email Art
