Mill City Live: Outdoor Music Series – Adam Levy & Friends

Adam Levy’s signature guitar playing, deft songwriting and charismatic vocals have long anchored
the Honeydogs, who debuted with a 1995 self-titled effort which introduced their twangy garage-
pop sound. Their other recordings include Everything, I Bet You (1996), Seen A Ghost (1997) and
Here’s Luck (2001). On their recent CDs, 10,000 Years (2003), Amygdala, Can’t Feel the Beating
and Sunshine Committee (2009), their sound has expanded to include shades of the Stones'
Exile on Main Street, Fresh-era Sly Stone, twilight Hendrix and Revolver-esque Beatles, all with
Levy's surreal, evocative and enigmatic lyrics. Levy also writes and performs songs for children as
the band Bunny Clogs. He is also the leader of a favorite local cover band, Hookers and Blow. The
Twin Cities’ most explosive outdoor concert series is back for an eighth season with a slate of
bands curated by music writer Jim Walsh. Featuring legendary performers from the heyday of the
Minneapolis sound, these concerts will riff on American music in a gorgeous riverfront setting every
Thursday through August 18. Admission includes the concert and entrance to the museum from 4
to 9 p.m. Food and drink by D’Amico Catering available for purchase. Fee: $5 per person;

Women’s Work: History Player Eva Valesh Tour

A costumed actor portraying labor writer Eva Valesh will lead a walking tour highlighting the
factories whose working conditions were exposed by Valesh in a series of newspaper articles in
1888 and 1889. Jobs available to women in the 19th and early-20th century and some of the key
events in women’s labor history in Minneapolis will be discussed. Valesh was a labor writer and
orator who also was known by the pen name Eva Gay. Among the riverfront factories singled out by
"Eva Gay" was the North Star Woolen Mill, still standing two blocks from Mill City Museum. Valesh
served as labor editor for the Saint Paul Globe and the Minneapolis Tribune. She went on to
national acclaim, working for Samuel Gompers as Assistant Editor of the American Federationist.

Washburn A Mill Tour

Get an in-depth look at the historic Washburn A Mill complex and the award-winning Mill City
Museum building. A museum interpreter will take visitors into the building's many nooks and
crannies, highlighting the lives of the men and women who worked there, how the building
functioned during its peak flour milling years and the many changes to the building over time. Also
covered will be the challenges of preserving the 120-year-old, fire-damaged building; its art,
architecture and interior design; and the St. Anthony Falls Historic District. Although many parts of
the mill can be explored during regular museum visits, this is the public's only opportunity for a
guided tour through the entire museum building. Fee: $12 adults, $10 seniors and college
students, $8 children ages 6-17 and MHS members. Tour includes museum admission.
