This document discusses pediatric emergency preparedness planning. It finds that while national standards cite pediatric planning as a priority, a review of 57 state plans found that only 27 adequately addressed pediatric needs. Barriers to improved pediatric planning included lack of funding, resources, communication, training and processes to identify gaps and access pediatric providers, especially in rural areas. The document recommends solutions to these barriers by consulting sections of the National Commission on Children and Disasters report.
