1. Joy
Phil 4:4
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoice is the book ends of a Christian life;
notice it is the first and last word of our verse
and just, so you don’t miss it, the word is
capitalized each time.
I asked my wife what she wanted for Christmas. She
told me "Nothing would make her happier than a
diamond necklace" So I bought her nothing.
Joy is given in full at salvation but at times we
come to the realization we need a refill. In these
moments it is most important to only accept Joy
from its original source, not the worlds
imitations.
I. Is Achieved by a Focus on Christ- Phil
1:16-18

2. 16 The one preach Christ of contention, not
sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for
the defence of the gospel.
18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether
in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I
therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
Luke 9:49-50
49 And John answered and said, Master, we
saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we
forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for
he that is not against us is for us.
II. Is Achieved as the Reward for
Faithfulness- Phil 2:16-18
Phil 2:16-18
16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may
rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in
vain, neither laboured in vain.
17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and
service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.
18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice
with me.
1Thess 2:19

3. 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of
rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our
Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
Rev 3:10-11
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my
patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of
temptation, which shall come upon all the
world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which
thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

III. Is achieved by Ignoring the Flesh- Phil
3:3-7
Phil 3:3-7
3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God
in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have
no confidence in the flesh.
4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh.
If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he
might trust in the flesh, I more:

of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews;
as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching
the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

Jer 9:24
24 But let him that glorieth glory in this,
that he understandeth and knoweth me, that
I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness,

IV. Is a Fashionable Fraternity- Phil 4:1
Phil 4:1
1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed
for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord,
my dearly beloved.
1Thess 3:9
9 For what thanks can we render to God again
for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for
your sakes before our God;
