4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is
hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the
world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the
Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which
He has made to dwell in us”?

If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for
yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your
fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the
Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we
will serve the LORD.

19 When Laban had gone to shear his flock, then Rachel stole the
household idols that were her father’s.
34 Now Rachel had taken the household idols and put them in the
camel's saddle, and she sat on them. And Laban felt through all the
tent but did not find them.

1 Now there was a man of the hill country of Ephraim whose name was Micah.
2He said to his mother, “The eleven hundred pieces of silver which were taken
from you, about which you uttered a curse in my hearing, behold, the silver is
with me; I took it.” And his mother said, “Blessed be my son by the LORD.” 3 He
then returned the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother, and his mother
said, “I wholly dedicate the silver from my hand to the LORD for my son to make
a graven image and a molten image; now therefore, I will return them to you.”
4So when he returned the silver to his mother, his mother took two hundred
pieces of silver and gave them to the silversmith who made them into a graven
image and a molten image, and they were in the house of Micah. 5 And the man
Micah had a shrine and he made an ephod and household idols and
consecrated one of his sons, that he might become his priest. 6 In those days
there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.

  • #11 Location: Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt This is the oldest surviving obelisk (built in 20 century B.C.), within all the existing 30+ standing obelisks worldwide. Heliopolis was once the seat of worship of the sun god, Ra (Re), and The Great Temple of Re was built in this city. Therefore, although it was a capital city [of the 15th nome (province) of Lower Egypt], but it was important as a religious rather than a political center. The Great Temple of Ra in Heliopolis was the second in size only to the Karnak Great Temple of Amon, and its priesthood wielded great influence, particularly during the 5th dynasty [of the Old Kingdom, 24th Century B.C.], when the worship of Ra become the state cult.
  • #12 An obelisk that was brought to Rome from Egypt by Caligula in 37 AD. There are a number of Egyptian obelisks standing in Rome, in fact 13 of them. There are more erect obelisks from Egypt in Rome than there are anywhere else in the World, including Egypt. They were all brought to Rome by various Roman Emperors. This particular example, often called the Vatican Obelisk and sometimes Caligula’s Obelisk, is the only ancient Egyptian obelisk in Rome to have remained standing since Roman times.
  • #13 Tallest oblisk at 555 feet Although we see no celebration of Easter in the New Testament, early church fathers celebrated it, and today many churches are offering "sunrise services" at Easter – an obvious pagan solar celebration.
