• ITS FIRST LOYALTY IS TO CITIZENS
• ITS ESSENCE IS DISCIPLINE OF VERIFICATION

INDEPENDENCE FROM THOSE THEY COVER

MONITOR OF POWER
Principles of Journalism
• IT MUST PROVIDE A FORUM FOR PUBLIC
CRITICISM AND COMPROMISE
• IT MUST STRIVE TO MAKE THE SIGNIFICANT
INTERESTING AND RELEVANT
• IT MUST KEEP THE NEWS COMPREHENSIVE
AND PROPORTIONAL
• ITS PRACTITIONERS MUST BE ALLOWED TO
EXERCISE THEIR PERSONAL CONSCIENCE
Development Journalism
• Development journalism is journalism
intended for development of people and the
society.
• It takes people into account.
• It’s objective is to pass information that will
help improve quality of life of people, a
community or society.
Development Journalism
• Development journalism is goal-oriented.
• The ultimate goal of development journalism
is to empower people with valid information
to improve the quality of their lives through
social, political, cultural, and economic
changes.
Development Journalism
• It has two primary roles:
- A transforming role, as it seeks social change
in the direction of building a scientific value
based society by virtue of adequate
information.
- In playing its roles, development journalism
attempts to create an atmosphere for change
by making people well informed.
Development Journalism
• Primary objective and responsibility of
Development Journalism is to build and
spread “Scientific Temper” in the society.
• “Scientific Temper” in society is essential to
bring in required changes in the society for all-
round development of people and
communities.
Development Journalism
• Development journalists bring to attention
issues that are overlooked, underreported, or
not reported and are ignored by the
administration and political community.
• As investigative reporters, they uncover the
stories within the stories, revealing the
multifaceted nature of poverty and similar
other issues.
Development Journalism
• As a tool for social justice, development
journalism can be very valuable.
• By speaking for those who cannot, a
development journalist can inform the rest of
the world about important issues concerning
people.
• It advocates for non-exploitative, sustainable
development.
Development Journalism
Libertarian development journalism has the
following tasks:
• to raise issues concerning people to bring to
the notice of larger public and government.
• to motivate its audience, the people, to
actively participate and cooperate in
development;
• to defend the interests of the oppressed and
the voiceless.
Thank you!
