The news room is the heart of any newspaper and is divided into three sections - business, mechanical, and editorial. The news editor heads the news room and coordinates the functions along with chief and various sub-editors. News is collected by staff and agencies, selected and edited by the chief sub-editor and editor for publication or rejection. It is then presented on a dummy for page layout in the print process. Modern news rooms are becoming electronic and paperless, using software for editing and pagemaking to prepare the final copy for printing.
