Days are gone when we used to build up static website which was a bit difficult to update, modify or make any change. All these difficulties show the way to capitalize dynamic website. A Content Management System (CMS) as a dynamic one helps any novice to create, modify, update and publish the content of webpage without having much of technical knowledge. Now a days library and Information Science professionals can take the advantages of using various open source CMS, Joomla as for example, for developing their website. Joomla is being widely used CMS all over the world to manage the content of the website. It has also been using in the case of website development of a number of libraries and information centers to inform the available services, create user accounts, manage back end database, provide virtual library service, highlight new arrivals, and bring any modification on regular basis. The present paper discusses the significance/application of CMS/Joomla in present-day’s digital library environment

Abstract A content management system (CMS) is a software program that makes building and maintaining Web sites faster and easier. The system can automatically pull the content out and show it on the appropriate pages based on rules you set up in advance. There are several CMS available now a day’s varying based on functionalities and platforms. The challenge in correctly implementing a CMS is both the author’s utilization of the appropriate management system platform to create the content and the successful access by the end user to the published website. This paper discusses about comparative study of most widely used content management systems Joomla and Drupal. This study attempt to analyze each CMS on the basis of usage, design, performance, scalability, compatibility with different platforms, security purpose, and search engine visibility This study will help an individual or organization to choose an appropriate CMS for their specific web application. This is the support deck for an introductory class I made for Junior Designers, Developers, Product and Project Managers to introduce them to the proper way to use wireframes.
I did this class already multiple times at General Assembly (London, UK), TechLab (Santa Clara, CA), Santiago (Chile) and internally in my consulting job.
It's updated to Keynote 6.

repository (database).
It contains much improved CSS(Cascading Style
Sheets).

versions of a single instance of content.
It helps in publishing the content to a repository to
support access to the content (Search and retrieval).

7. JOOMLA
The name Joomla is derived from the Swahili word
"Jumla", which means "all together" or "as a whole".
Joomla! is one of the most powerful Open Source
Content Management Systems. It is used all over the
world for everything from simple websites to complex
corporate applications.

programming structure (OOPS) techniques and software
design pattern, stores data in a MySQL database, and
includes features such as page caching, RSS feeds,
printable versions of pages, news flashes, blogs, polls,
search, and support for language internationalization.
It is based on a model-view-controller (MVC) web
application framework that can be used independently.
9
10. HISTORY OF JOOMLA
The genesis of Joomla goes back to August 2005 when the project broke off
from another web design project Mambo. The whole concern of the
development team was to put this content management software into the open
source domain. Internet users at the Open Source Matters website
(www.opensourcematters.org) spoke in support for the new project and in early
September of 2005, Joomla! was born. The word comes from the Arabic for "all
together", which is an important idea for this web design project.
Joomla is now the internet's second most popular Content Management System
after WordPress.
10
11. WHY TO USE JOOMLA?

Published API
Windows in the code allowing 3rd Party
extension
Dynamic Content
MySQL database driven
Pro-Active Support
Joomla! Teams and Community members
11
12. WHY JOOMLA IS BETTER THAN OTHER CMS?
Joomla Other CMS
It is designed to work perfectly in basic
shared web hosting environments, a
package that is least expensive and most
common. Installer is simple and just like any
other common desktop software.
It is supported by several extensions, add-
on, and plug in. They are written in PHP,
which is most widely used, general purpose
scripting language and best suited for web
development
The installation process is a bit complicated.
Add-ons, Plug-ins, although deeply
integrated, but are less powerful compared
to Joomla.
It is not known to support it.
12
13. JOOMLA V/S DRUPAL
Joomla supports SSL logins and SSL
pages.
Joomla's biggest strength is that it has
a wide selection of free and
commercial designs.
TinyMCE (in built editor) comes with
Joomla.
The default WYSIWYG (What You See
is What You Get !) editor allows video
and there are plenty of podcast and
video extensions.
DocMan and Rokdownloads are both
reliable document managers.
Drupal not known to support it.
Very few commercial developers and
off-the-shelf choices are very poor.
Most designs are custom-made.
Probably the most common complaint
about Drupal - it has no default editor.
Not by default but several multimedia
modules for video and podcasting are
available.
Would need to be constructed from
other modules.

management system allowing easy
management and maintenance of your

can be turned on and off per article or for
the whole site in one go.
