15. Developed by Joe Lewis in 2011
Training Zones Concept for Gyms in Asia
Training Zones for Gyms was developed to help gym owners / trainers in Asia to be able to help their members achieve
RESULTS, and in addition aide the club in long term member retention.
The aim of “Training Zones” is to help the member reach his/her fitness goals as quickly and safely as possible.
Different “Training Zones” throughout the gym allows the member to start a program at a fitness level based on their
fitness and health conditions at the time of joining. Progression to another level or Zone keeps the Members
motivated to stay with the program. Progression to another level also indicates that the Member is getting results.
We have created the following Training Zones, however, not all Zones maybe applicable based on space and budget
available:
Zone I : Testing
Zone II : Dynamic Mobility Warm Up / Flexibility / ABS
Zone III : Get Started Program 15-30 minutes for beginners
Zone IV : General Cardio Conditioning
Zone V : Speed Fit Training/HOT (High Octane Training)
Zone VI : Strength Training with Selectorized Weight Plate Stations
Zone VII : Free Weight Training
Zone VIII : Ultimate Functional Fitness
Zone IX : Age Management/Wellness
Zone X : Group Training Classes
The benefits of Training Zones provides the Member with an optimal chance of achieving results and as a result they will
stay longer as a member, which creates greater long term rewards for the club. It’s a WIN-WIN! Training Zones also targets
Millennials and 60+ers, which are vital to a club’s success.
20. In addition to the Wellness-Centric Gym Concepts program, I am now in the process of putting together a team of
“Wellness Panel of Experts” that will be associated with the program and whom will provide ongoing regular health, wellness and
fitness updates, webinars, podcasts, and newsletters to be available to projects that are involved with the Wellness-Centric Gym Concepts.
The Panel of Experts will consist of many of the professionals I know personally throughout many years of association.
What will this mean to projects that I am involved in?
Your project will benefit but so will your gym members and hotel guests.

to develop the 2,500 square meter sports and spa facility adjacent to the hotel, which opened in 1987.
27. Swiss Grand Olympic Club
Seoul Korea
Joe was hired as pre-opening consultant to develop the 3,000 indoor sports facility at the Swiss Grand Hotel in 1987, which opened
under the name of The Olympic Club. The timing of the opening was right before the 1988 Summer Olympics Games in Seoul.

40. Joe’s Training Philosophy
Personal Trainer
“I train ALL people, athlete or not, like an athlete. That doesn’t mean 4-8 hours per day but every training session
train for sport, flexibility, agility, strength, and balance, which can be achieved within 40-50 minutes per session!”
Personal training is more than instructing how to perform an exercise and rep counting.
A good personal trainer is one who educates and gives his/her students the knowledge to be able
to achieve self-discipline and that allows them to continue their fitness program on their own.
We need to be teachers of skills not drills.
Too often we focus more on the fancy drill and not enough on the execution of the skill.
To teach mechanics with proper technique and then consistently add intensity.
It’s the intensity of your training, not the volume that is the key
to unlocking your success to reaching your fitness & health goals.
To help the student achieve their desired results as quickly and safely as possible.
I specialize in educating my students about Hormone Optimization, Gut Microbiome,
Anti-Aging-Longevity,
Nutritional Sciences, Sleep. Meditation and of course Fitness.
Delivering results to our clients with the highest professional integrity

43. My management philosophy is simple: by Guiding, Energizing and Exciting; and Driving Culture.
There is no company politics when developing a company culture. If you want your company to move fast, politics is

Putting the right people on the bus is key but putting them in the right seat is essential for success.

SEA Games Myanmar Sunday December 15, 2013.
Gavin also participated in the SEA Games in Singapore 2015.
48. My dad was a career military officer in the US Air Force and was a member of the elite forces known as the Air Commandos.
We lived all over God’s creation including the Panama Canal Zone. When I lived in Panama Canal Zone during my high
school years, I was an Explorer Scout and paddled 2-consecutive years the famous 3-day 50 Mile Ocean to Ocean Cayuco
Race in the Panama Canal. Each team had to make their own boat from the tree, which took months to complete. It was
exciting to see alligators on the shoreline entering the water, which was an amazing motivation to paddle FASTER.
49. Joe served in the United States Marine Corps Force Recon
50. Jungle Survival School Panama
As an Explorer Scout in Panama I attended the 3-Week Jungle Survival
School at Fort Sherman earning the title of ‘Jungle Expert’ A few years later
I would attend the school again as a United States Marine Force Recon.
51. I lived on the famous Kaiser Estate Honolulu, Hawaii for $125 a month. A funny story!
The Kaiser estate at Portlock, Honolulu, Hawaii. Built in the early 1950s this was the home of Henry J. Kaiser who developed Hawaii Kai in east
Oahu. There are no other grand oceanfront parcels of this size on densely populated Oahu. The property faces west into the sunset and slopes
gently to the ocean with complete privacy from the street. There are magnificent views of Diamond Head crater due west across Maunalua Bay as
well as city lights of east Oahu.
Funny story: When I returned from the United States Marine Corps, I was offered my previous job back by Kaiser Hawaii Kai Development
Company. About one week back, I got a call from the secretary to the senior VP to come to his office immediately. As I walked up the stairs to the
top floor, I was thinking, I’m about to get fired, for what I have no idea. I entered his office and he said, Joe, I understand you are looking for a
place to live nearby. My reply, Yes Sir. Come with me, he said. We drove in his company car out to Portlock and I’m thinking OMG, this is for the
rich. The car stopped in front of the electric gates to the Kaiser Estate. Now I’m thinking, this guy doesn’t know how much I get paid or I’m about
to get a giant pay raise. We drove down the drive way to the open basketball court and got out. What do you think, Joe? Nice Sir! We entered a
huge private studio that looked out towards Diamond Head and the Pacific Ocean. The color design was all purple and pink (Mrs. Kaisers favorite
colors). The VP said, it’s yours for $125 a month. I moved in that night. I had the run of the entire estate. I’d like to tell you about the parties I had
there, but I can’t. The experience lasted almost one year when the Goldman brothers from Wall Street bought it. The latest I read about the estate
was that it was for sale for $80 million. I should have bought it when it was for sale for $2.5 million
52. That’s me and my friend world famous blind marathon runner Harry Cordellos and my first 26.2 mile Honolulu marathon 1975.
I ran again with Harry in the 1976 Honolulu Marathon.

The photo on the left is Harry and me 3 days before
the Honolulu Marathon, which was to be my first.
We were interviewed by the Honolulu Star Bulletin
after the photo.
I was asked how it felt to be helping Harry through
the marathon. I remember chuckling out loud – the
guy has run over 50 marathons already and I
haven’t run one, yet. Me help Harry or Harry help
me? As it turned out Harry helped me through my
first and second marathons.
The photo on the right is crossing the finish line.
Hundreds of people cheering Harry on, which put a
lump in my throat.
53. In 1978, I took Pan Am Airlines Around the World flight from Honolulu to London and traveled 80 days in a
Volkswagon beetle I bought in Amsterdam for $240. I travelled mostly in Southern Europe. Afterwards Pan Am to
the Middle East and finally Asia. I never completed the Pan Am tour around the world
because I stopped in Indonesia to begin my new business venture.
54. Trekking and Hiking Adventurers
One of my passions is getting out in the great outdoors and experiencing nature.
In 1987, I spent 3 weeks in Nepal trekking in the Himalayas. Just a few of my trekking and hiking adventurers over the years.
Hiked Yosemite National Park USA, climbing the backside of HaIf Dome.
I’ve trekked in northern Thailand and most recently 2016 on Whidbey Island at Deception Pass, Washington USA and Olympic National Park Washington USA
