Indianapolis unemployment again rose slightly to 5.0 percent. The state’s unemployment rate also increased to 5.0 percent.

• Indianapolis unemployment again rose slightly to 5.0 percent,
according to the most recent estimates available from the BLS. The
state’s unemployment rate also increased to 5.0 percent.
• Despite the decrease in overall employment, non-farm employment
actually increased for the second month in a row following a decline at
the beginning of the year. There has also been year-over-year growth
since January 2010, or for 75 consecutive months.
• Industrial employment posted a strong month. Mining, Logging, &
Construction showed its first monthly growth since October 2015.
Trade, Transportation, & Utilities grew after 2 months of decline. Both
of these sectors also had year-over-year growth.
• After some earlier rebounds, U.S. employment growth slowed sharply
in April to 160,000 net new jobs, the lowest figure since early 2015.
Slow job growth mirrored underwhelming GDP growth of 0.5 percent
in Q1 2016.
