Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days in the wilderness, where he was tempted three times by the devil. The first temptation was to turn stones into bread to satisfy his hunger, but Jesus relied on God rather than his own power. The second temptation was to throw himself from the temple to test God, but Jesus said not to test God. The third temptation was to gain power over all the kingdoms of the world by worshipping the devil instead of God, but Jesus said to only worship and serve God. These temptations show Jesus overcoming sin and the devil by relying on God and rejecting earthly desires of fame, wealth and power in favor of doing God's will.

13.  MIRACLES are not
demanded of God as
evidence of His care
for man

14. God’s power is for
genuine concern and
love

demanding
signs or
miracles?
Do you live by faith
and not by sight?

16. 3rd Temptation:
All these (kingdoms
of the world) I will
give to you if you will
fall on your knees
and worship me.

17. the third temptation
signifies POWER over
the earth even to the
point of disregarding God

18. Christ’s Response:
“You shall do homage
to the Lord your God;
Him alone shall you
adore and Him alone
shall you serve.”

19. -It expresses Christ’s
faithfulness to His
Father

not one of earthly
power and wealth
like those of David
and Solomon

21. -Christ’s kingdom or
the kingdom of God
refers to the reign of
justice, peace, hope,
joy and love

27. O my God,
I am heartily sorry for
having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins,
because I dread the loss of
heaven,

deserving of all my love.

28. I firmly resolve,
with the help of Thy
grace,
to confess my sins,
to do penance,
and to amend my life.
Amen.

29. Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the
wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly
pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the
Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, Satan and all the evil
spirits,
who roam throughout the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
