This is the first of a series of presentations about the development of Christian character, based on a study of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. The presentation was prepared by Dr Kevin Smith, Vice-Principal of the South African Theological Seminary.
The fruit of the spirit is joy. Paul’s letter tto the Philippians teaches us that real joy is not dependent on our circumstances, but on being in a right relationship with our Lord Jesus and with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Tomorrow we are starting a new series of study:
“The New Man” is a seminar that will focus on the spirit of man, its soul and its body.
We will learn the properties of each one of these three parts of man.
Our spirit is called to be the ruling part of us, actually, our spirit is the main part of our being, and is the place where the spirit of God dwells in.
We meet in Room #3 at CTF Toronto Wednesdays from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. I invite you to come and participate with us in this discovery of how to let our spirit become the ruler of our life.
We know the dictionary definition of worship (a feeling, or devotion to a deity), and we have read John 4:24, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth"; but, what does the Bible teach us about the subject of worship? This is a series of lessons that gets to the heart of worship and what it really means for Christians.
Who is the Holy Spirit? Learn more, including the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Take up the challenge by Pope Francis by praying to the Holy Spirit.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Pastor Darrell Jackson, Sr.

Throughout the Bible, righteous
men are likened to trees, and

8. LOVE
•Agape is an undefeatable benevolence
and unconquerable goodwill that always
seeks the highest of others, no matter
what he does.
•Agape is more a love by choice than
philos, which is love by chance; and it
refers to the will rather than the
emotion.
9. LOVE
•Agape describes the unconditional love
God has for the world.
•Apostle Paul gives an in-depth
description of agape love in 1
Corinthians 13.
10.
11.
12. JOY
•The Greek word for joy, chara, is
derived from the Greek word charis,
which means ‘grace.’
•Chara (joy) is produced by the grace
of God.
•It is not human-based happiness which
can come and go.
13. JOY
•True ‘joy’ is divine in its origin.
•It is a Spirit-given expression which
is at its best during hard times.
•1 Thessalonians 1:6 NLT
“So you received the message with joy
from the Holy Spirit in spite of the
severe suffering it brought you.
In this way, you imitated both
us and the Lord.”
14.
15.
16. PEACE
•Peace is the result of resting in a
relationship with God.
•The word “peace” comes from the
Greek word eirene, which expresses
the concept of wholeness,
completeness or tranquility in the
soul that is unaffected by
outward circumstances.
17. PEACE
•Jesus is described as the Prince of
Peace, who brings peace to the
hearts of those who desire it.
•John 14:27 NLT

mind and heart. And the peace I give is
a gift the world cannot give.
So don’t be troubled
or afraid.”
18.

20. PATIENCE
•Patience noted in some translations as
“longsuffering” or “endurance,” is defined by

mee-ah) and hupomone (hoop-om-on-ay).
•Makrothumia is the ability to endure
persecution and ill-treatment.
•Exercising restraint as oppose
to revenge.
21. PATIENCE
•Hupomone is translated
“endurance”: constancy,
perseverance, continuance, bearing

•The capacity to continue even under
difficult circumstances, with a
hopeful fortitude that actively
resists weariness and
defeat.
22.
23.
24. KINDNESS
•Kindness and nice cannot always be
used interchangeably.
•Nice is defined by dictionary.com as
being agreeable.
•Kindness is acting for the good of
people regardless of what they do.
25. KINDNESS
•The word kindness comes from the
Greek word chrestotes (kray-stot-ace),
which meant to be friendly to others.
•Synonyms for kindness are:
compassionate, considerate,
sympathetic, humane or gentle.
26. GOODNESS
• Popular English Bibles translate the single
Greek word chrestotes into two words:
kindness and goodness.
• Definitions of goodness:

• Moral excellence; virtue
• Kindly feeling, kindness, generosity
• The best part of anything;
Essence; Strength

17 Then Christ will make his home in
your hearts as you trust in him. Your
roots will grow down into God’s love
and keep you strong.
31.
32.
33. GENTLENESS
•Gentleness, in the Greek, prautes, is
commonly known as meekness, not as an
indicator for weakness, but of power and
strength under control.
•The New Spirit Filled Life Bible defines
gentleness as…
…”a disposition that is even-tempered,
tranquil, balanced in spirit, unpretentious,
and having passions under control.”
34.
35.
