BUILDING CHRISTIAN
CHARACTER
Oh, my dear children! I feel as if I'm going through
labor pains for you again, and they will continue
until Christ is fully developed in your lives
-Galatians 4:19
My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains
of childbirth until Christ is formed in you-NIV
The capacity to accept or tolerate delay,
trouble, or suffering without getting
angry or upset.
What is patience?
"Patience" is enduring or waiting,
as a determination of will.
It's not merely enduring trials as a
matter of necessity.
"Patience" is a strong determination
of will, to victoriously overcome the
negative things we confront,
according to God's will.
4 Or perhaps you despise his great kindness,
tolerance, and patience. Surely you know that
God is kind, because he is trying to lead you to
repent.-GNT
We do not want you to become lazy, but
to imitate those who through faith and
patience inherit what has been promised.
-NIV
Patience is a deliberate and willful attitude,
resulting in several godly behaviors.
Colossians 1:9-11
9 ...We continually ask God to fill you with the
knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and
understanding that the Spirit gives,
10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord
and please him in every way: bearing fruit in
every good work, growing in the knowledge of
God, 11 being strengthened with all
power according to his glorious might so that
you may have great endurance and patience.
Ephesians 4:1-6 I urge you to live a life
worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be
completely humble and gentle; be patient,
bearing with one another in love. 3 Make
every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace.
James 5:10-11
Brothers and sisters, as an example of
patience in the face of suffering, take the
prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
11 As you know, we count as blessed those
who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s
perseverance and have seen what the Lord
finally brought about. The Lord is full of
compassion and mercy.
19 God will bless you for this, if you
endure the pain of undeserved suffering
because you are conscious of his will.
