There are 4 main types of tissues in the human body: epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissue. Connective tissue contains 4 main groups: bone, cartilage, connective tissue proper, and blood. Bone provides structure, cartilage provides flexibility, connective tissue binds tissues together, and blood transports nutrients. Epithelial tissues cover the outside of the body and line cavities. Muscular tissues, including cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscle, enable movement. Nervous tissue forms the central nervous system and controls body functions.
