There are four main types of tissues in the body - epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue forms continuous sheets and is classified by the number of cell layers. Connective tissue is found throughout the body and includes subcategories such as bone, cartilage and blood. Muscle tissue includes three main types - skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle. Nervous tissue transmits electrical signals throughout the body.
