2. Inviting Someone to Do Something
verb + ませんか
The 「verb + ませんか」pattern is used to invite someone to do something. You can
use the「verb + ませんか」(= the present tense negative verb, plus the question particle
か ) to extend an invitation. It should be noted that its affirmative counterpart, ますか ,
cannot be so used. Thus a sentence like 「あさくさに いきますか。」can only be
construed as a question, not as an invitation.

4. Then once you are almost certain of your listener s intention and there is already
a situation or a context where something is expected, 「verb stem + ましょうか」
(= the acceptance reply of let s [verb] , plus the question particle か ) is used.

5. Drill 1 :「∼ませんか」／「∼ましょう」の れんしゅう
例（れい）：コーヒーを のみます。 → コーヒーを のみませんか。
ええ、のみましょう。
rei koohii o nomimasu. koohii o nomimasenka.
ee, nomi mashou.
