This document discusses using Web 2.0 tools to make vocabulary instruction more engaging for 5th grade students in Hawaii who say learning vocabulary is boring. It proposes training teachers through an online webinar to use tools like Powtoon, Quizlet, Rubistar, and Storybird to boost students' attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction with vocabulary learning. Each tool is described in terms of its rationale, strengths and weaknesses in meeting different aspects of the ARCS model of motivation.
