Persuasive Essay On Gun Law
May 4, 2017, Georgia Senate signed the campus carry gun bill. On July 1, 2017, Georgia s
campus carry gun law went into effect. The bill legalized conceal carry in some areas of public
college and university campuses. Valdosta State University (VSU) will now allow guns onto
campus. There are a lot of stipulations in the bill; That may cause the campus to have many gunfree
zones. Guns will still be banned from student housing, fraternity and sorority houses or any room
or class with high school students present. The conceal carry law is only for people with a
weapon carry licenses. To apply for these licenses, you must be 21 years or older. Most students
don t even meet the age requirement to conceal carry. There are a lot of mixed emotions

Race As A Cultural Construction Of Race
In lecture, our class grappled with the concept of race as a cultural construction, and how the
issues that derive from race only have meaning because we assign it to them; mankind could have
chosen anything to classify themselves, but somehow settled on skin color. In the words of
Clifford Geertz, man is an animal suspended in webs of significance he himself has spun racism
would be one of those webs that humanity has tangled itself up in (qtd. in Hickman). We have
studied raceas a mythical reality, and racism as a cultural model that people have adopted in order
to deal with the complexities of the past. I had the privilege of attending a lecture given by Joan
Trumpauer Mulholland, an activist during the civil rights movement, and I

In the story 7 The Black Cat the author Edgar Allan Poe whites all the horror and terrible things

Frankenstein Comparative Essay
Context is the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of
which it can be fully understood. Every text that is created has been influenced by its context both
personally and socially. Many literature texts can be written in different time periods and yet still
have many similarities. An example of this is between Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, written in 1818
and John Donne s A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, written in 1611. Both texts use science as a
basis for their exploration into the workings of humanity and the complexity of love. Mary Shelley
s Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein s journey as he reanimates a dead body, and the
consequences that follow. As the monster gains knowledge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Mary Shelley sided with the Church: due to her religious background, and felt that science would
consume mankind. Scientists brought about new ideas that challenged the Church and its
interpretation of God s perfect world. The novel brings into account the issues that men,
prominently religious men, thought about, such as alchemy, the manipulation of electricity and
the idea of creation of life. Shelley s perception of science, the concept of science versus religion,
her ideology against science and rationality, and the fear of scientific advancements were all
incorporated in her novel Frankenstein. Mary Shelley opposes the theory of Darwin, where she
advances a man made creation into the monster, and by doing this incorporates the fears on the
ideology of evolution. Mary Shelley holds the belief that science will one day lead to God like
creations. Victor Frankenstein believes that he has released a race of devils ... upon the earth,
who might make the very existence of the species of man a condition precarious and full of
terror (Shelley 1982, p. 163), after he s unable to contain the creature s extreme powers which has
led to destructive ends. Mary Shelley s negative views on science and the advancements of science
fuel her creation of this novel and uses this novel as a means to voice her opinion and potentially
persuade others to align with her views. The monster in Frankenstein is a projection of Mary
Shelley s fears for the advancement of science and warns others by showing the consequences that
can occur from such advancements,

The Benefits Of Attending College After High School
College After High School Every young adult knows the importance of getting an education. The
future holds many opportunities, including a job that one can excel in and enjoy. Some people
think that those who go to school waste their life on furthering their education, but who have
longer lasting jobs and a bigger paycheck? According to The College Board Organization, going
to college will let you explore various jobs and help find the career path that fits you (College:
What It s About). College gives someone the chance to be more independent and social. College
sets a realistic plan for goals, making dreams more achievable and attainable (Beckstead). Attending
college after high schoolexpands your knowledge, helps the transition to adulthood, and prepares
you for the future. Trying to stay motivated and on track after high school is hard. But going to
college, keeps you on track and gives a reason to apply yourself. People who get a college degree
are more productive to society (Is College Worth It?). More than half of college graduates donate
blood compared to high school graduates (Is College Worth It?). Bureau Labor of Statistics
found that 43% of the 2008 2009 college graduates volunteered. While only 19% of high school
graduates volunteered (Is College Worth It?). Also some college graduates specialize in certain
fields which are necessary for society. For example, the medical field provides us with services like
doctors and dentists. People without a college

French Culture Vs American Culture
France vs. America
It was a Tuesday morning when I first decided to meet with my creating culture partner. We
decided to meet in the Calvin T. Ryan library here on campus. I didn t know what to expect at
first. So, I spent a good twenty minutes before the meeting coming up with a definition of
culture in case it was brought up in the meeting. I decided that my personal definition of culture
is how a person lives their everyday life based on societal beliefs and norms. This lead me to
think about the French culture, and how I have seen their lives portrayed. My partner Romane and
I are from two different worlds. We can converse well with each other as long as we try to
understand and respect the differences of our cultures. There are many ... Show more content on

We compared the systems and the effectiveness of both education systems. Both France and
America have similar systems in the fact that the ages are around the same when you start and
end your education. We decided to look deeper and compare prices, the atmosphere of the
classes, and the sizes of the universities. In France, universities are free for students, unless you
decide to go to a private institution. A private institution is the path that Romane chose. Also,
they do not have your traditional college campus. It is just the school. American college
institutions can be, and are, very pricey. The price significantly increases if one would like to go
to a private college. At Romane s college in France there is a Bureau des Г©tudiants which
translates to office of students. This office is a group of fifteen students who organize student
parties. There are alcohol at these parties because it is legal to drink at age eighteen in France. It
astonished her that we are not allowed to drink, or purchase alcohol until we reach the age of
twenty one. Our equivalent to the office of students would be the campus group named LPAC. Any
function that this group puts together is alcohol

I will analyse the cost to the music industry of internet piracy over the last decade, Quantify and
qualify the argument that an illegal download is equal to one song purchased. I will use the
statistical and financial data from the RAII and other authorities to outline my findings.
Also I will controversially conclude whether the music industry is benefiting from music piracy,
whether the music industry is now an open market business, and the attitude of artists to an open
market compared to that of their record labels and the RAII copyright authority.
3 Overview
3.1 The Definition of Internet Piracy and the Damage it causes
The term internet piracy has been around for the last decade, describing the illegal activity of
downloading and sharing copyrighted material freely. The Recording Industry Association of
America warns companies and consumers about the threat of internet piracy:
Music theft is a real, on going and evolving challenge. Both the volume of music acquired illegally
without paying for it and the resulting drop in revenues are staggering. Digital sales, while on the
rise, are not making up the difference (RIAA, 2012)
In 2007 the Institute for Policy and Innovation estimated that the total cost of Internet Piracy,
specifically to the music industry, is costing the US economy over $12 billion a year:
As a consequence of global and U.S. based piracy of sound recordings, the U.S. economy loses

August Wilson Fences
Sometimes you have to pick the gun up to put the gun down. This quote was said by Malcolm X,
who was an African American Minister and a human rights activist. It means that sometimes you
have to fight in order to achieve peace. I agree with what he said because in order to get what you
want you have to fight for it. Two literary works that reflect this quote are Fences, a play about the
struggles of African American before and during the Civil Rights Era in the 1950s and 60s, by
August Wilson and The Yellow Wallpaper a short story that shows the difference between women
and men during that time, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Fences shows the revolution the characters
face, their actions and what is the result of those choices.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lack of acknowledgment in the play Fences between Troy and Cory cause their relationship
to decline even further. One of the greatest sources of disappointment in Troy s life is the fact
that he wasn t allowed to play pro baseball, Even though he used to hit homeruns in the Negro
Leagues, he couldn t go to the majors because of racial discrimination. He doesn t let Cory play
football, because he doesn t want Cory to feel what he felt during his time. Troy s lack of
acknowledgment of Cory s potential destroys Cory s dream by not signing the papers and not
letting the college recruiter from coming. I got sense enough not to let my boy get hurt playing
no sports (Wilson 39) He unconsciously stats that he doesn t want Cory to feel how he felt
during his time. This quote references flashback because in this quote Troy refers back to what
had happened to him during his athletic career, and how it affected his life. In this quote he
speaks like a father who is making decisions for his son and his future, even though the people
around him is telling him that the time has changed and it is not like before. Troy s lack of
acknowledgment causes Cory to lose his dream and late Cory to leave the house.
In the play Fences, Troy s demand for change caused him to revolt against the company. Even after
the abolishment of slavery the blacks were not treated equally nor had any

Parenting Is A Legacy For Children
Parenting: A Legacy For Children
Parenting is a process of supporting children through the ups and downs of life. From infancy to
adulthood, parents play an important role in the development of their children. They are expected
to ensure the child s health and safety, prepare them to function as citizens of society, and teach
them about what is important in life. Many parents learn how to parent by looking at the way they
were raised. However, with the stresses and strains that families face today, it is also a good idea
to be open to adding parenting tools to their toolbox. These tools are taught at places such as a
parent education group for ex offenders. Most of them have children of various ages. A social
worker leads the group to enhance their knowledge and skill sets and share topics such as being
present in the child s life, praising a child, effective discipline, and unconditional love. Parents
need to be present in their child s life, more connected, despite all the struggles and chaos of
living. Both child and parent need to get sufficient sleep, which enables them to function better.
When people are sleep deprived, they do not perform as well and are likely to be irritable.
Waiting until the weekend or a day off from regular activities to catch up on sleep does not work.
Also, cell phones need a break. Constantly being attached to cell phones hinders people s abilities
to interact. Parents who model this behavior may make their child feel that phone conversations
are more important than interactions with them. There was a woman who said hello to a
teenager while in the community. In response, the young man was not sure of what to say. He
was so used to talking and texting to people on his cell phone that he found it difficult to talk to
someone in person. In addition, join in on your child s fun. If a child is doing arts and crafts,
playing a sport, or watching a TV show, participate in the activities. Even when a parent is not
physically able to do a sport, they can ask their child about it. They can also go to sporting events
and talk about the activity. The main point is to stay connected to your child and their interests. In
response to the social worker s presentation, various

The Declaration Of The Rights Of Man And Citizen By...
We live in a world that is based around freedom and rights. As citizens, we expect to have a say
in how we live everyday life, whether it involves employment, owning a house, or who we elect as
president of the United States. Either way, our world is based around our natural rights. After the
Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was written, this caused a wave of revolution. This
Declaration had an impact on populations such as Haiti, but also had a major impact on countless
other slave populations. For the basis of slavery, we read through Abina and the Important men and
saw how different characters in the story defined the term slavery. Another view came from a
former slave Frederick Douglas who was a leading abolitionist. For... Show more content on

Even though there were a large number of African Americans on the plantation, the whites still
owned them, being merchants, slave masters, etc. This land was a major target for sugar,
everybody wanted this land. Following the revolution, the meaning of rights was different for the
whites and blacks. As Strayer quotes on page 793 in the textbook, To the slaves, the promise of
the French Revolution was a personal freedom that challenged the entire slave labor system.
Slaves burned 1,000 plantations and killed hundreds of whites. As a part of the African American
race, there was a former slave who led the blacks to a victory over the French rule. This former
slaves name was Toussaint Louverture. Following the revolt, many British people realized that
slavery was going against human rights. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen outlined
the rights that humans were supposed to be given. Some of these rights included natural rights,
political and civic rights , according to (Strayer, 812). So as a result of the revolt and abolition,
people were now agreeing that slavery violated the African American human rights.
In the story of Abina and the Important Men, we take a look at a West African woman who was
enslaved and had brought her case to court with the Important Men. A majority of this story takes
place in the court room, where Abina brings her former master to court. The beginning of this story

Analysis Of The Movie The Babadook
The Babadook is a haunting film filled with twists and turns that leave the audience terrified
without ever utilizing a single clichГ© jump scare. The audience is constantly in a state of dread
and fear along with the protagonist. One of the final scenes in the movie shows the protagonist
walking into her basement to feed the monster that she keeps down there. The scene is a unique
ending that is not commonly seen in horror films. It revolves around implicit meaning and the
interesting point of view editing. Without the implicit meaning of the filmand the point of view
editing in this scene, the emotional impact of the film would have been much weaker.
The scene begins with the protagonist, Amelia, standing at the entrance to the basement with Sam.
She instructs her son to go outside and play, while she enters the basement. The audience sees
Amelia slowly walk down the stairs with a bowl full of worms in her hands. It leaves the viewer a
bit confused the first time they watch the film due to the unusual nature of the act. She sets the
bowl down on the ground and the camera takes on the viewpoint of the Babadook as he comes
roaring out of his hiding spot. The protagonist soothes the monster before returning upstairs to her
son and her normal life. The scene provides an excellent representation of implicit meaning and
point of view editing.
The implicit meaning of the film is seen throughout the movie, but during the viewer s first watch
through it isn t obvious and may not

The Simon Ehrlich Wager Case Summary
The Simon Ehrlich wager was all about this idea of Malthusian catastrophe (Regis, 1997). The
idea is that because of population growth we are running out of resources and we will eventually
exhaust them all and die out. Julian Simon the so call cornucopian doom slayer challenged the
Malthusian believer Paul Ehrlich to a bet. Simon told Ehrlich that he could pick any raw material
and and any date in the future. If Simon was correct the eventually price of these resources would
decrease or not change more then inflation and if Ehrlich was correct since we are running out of
resources the price of these metal would increase. Ehrlich selected five assorted metal which

I definitely agree with Simon when he talks about the creativity and ingenious of humans. The
innovations we have today in not just the world of food production are absolutely mind blowing.
The machines we use for farming and how we change plants at the genetic level to suit us are
some of the many examples. Granted those inventions can somewhat be debated they are still
great examples of human s ability to problem solve. The part I am less hesitant to agree with is
that there is no problem at all. I think eventually we will reach some sort of semi Malthusian
catastrophe. Will it may not be exactly about food I think it s more likely going to be an issue of
land. We only have so much space on this planet and I think it there is anything that could be
used up it would be that. Also I am not blind to the fact the Simon did somewhat less then
problems of species loss. We are definably losing more then one species a year. Granted when it
comes to actual human survival that may not be an issues but when it comes down to the
diversity of life I think that is a problem. Another issues is that while we can technical always
come up for a solution for the growing need for more food, I think the cost of that is health.
Some of the things we are making and doing to feed the world are not going to always allow for a
health existence. Overall, I would say I definitely

Beowulf Compare And Contrast
Beowulf is one of the oldest poems in history, it was originally written in Anglo Saxon, and it was
told orally with many literary devices so it could be remembered throughout generations. It shows
what their society was based on back in the Anglo Saxon era. Although throughout history the poem
has been changed to fit our modern day society. For example, having different values and morals
and how we look at religion has all changed. In the Beowulfpoem and movie there are many
similarities and differences in Religion, Characterization, and Morals it highlights the value and
beliefs of each society.
The first example of the similarities and differences between the poem and the movie is the
representation of religion. For example, both the movie and the poem of Beowulf included
Christianity and Paganism. However, in the movie it was more about the Pagan religion, trying to
make Christianity look bad. As an example, in one scenes of the movie, Beowulf says the
Christianity killed the time of all heros. On the other hand, in the Beowulf poem, Beowulf is
compared to the gods of Christianity. For example, in the passage The Battle With Grendel the

The Pros And Cons Of Survey Junkie
Survey Junkie
Survey Junkie Review
Different from other sites, Survey Junkie is actually not a survey panel but what happens when
you opt to join them, they will connect you to other survey panels. Hence, it acts as the link to use
if you would wish to access other sites to earn money through surveys. The other thing about this
site is that you will not be guided on how to make money through surveys and the only thing you
get when you join is a list of survey panels that you can access.
Complaints associated with Survey Junkie

Conclusion
The process of making payments and including coupon codes as well is just somewhat suspicious
and evidently, this appears more like a way of playing with one s mind innocently. This ought not to
be the case if there is nothing to hide but if you are intending to partner with this site or any other
that uses such a strategy, this should obviously capture your attention.
Survey Junkie has also found a way of working with the twists and turns of up selling, funny
membership and junk mails that are at the core of how the site benefits from each of these. It is
basically a whole mix up of ways and means that are basically targeted on one thing; to ensure the
owner gains from the pattern adopted and to keep those who have joined in close, by rewarding
them once in a while.
It is not all bad with this site and neither is it all good because based on these aspects, it is not
one of the best anyway. One is better placed opting for other sites compared to Survey Junkie and
though it might not necessarily be scam, you might either share in their bigger cake or end up

The Elder Sister By William Bouguereau s The Elder Sister
This essay reviews the painting by William Bouguereau s The Elder Sister. It reviews the
elements of design and principles practiced in the artwork. This essay assesses the correct use of
the elements and the influence that they have on the entire perception of the painting. The artist
has applied an amazing background as well as perfect balance of the piece. The elder sister s arm
balances with her leg, the baby s foot balances with older sisters foot, the clouds balance with the
bushes. This explains the initial acclaim of this painting. Upon viewing the picture one gets a
feeling that the artist meant to depict a young girl who is captivated by her little sibling. This is clear
from the use of the angelic almost celestial background that unquestionably creates an affectionate
mood. The enchanting smile across the young girl s face communicates the elder sisters bliss. The
painterhas accomplished quite a bit with the use of the fundamentals in this painting.
The heavenly portrayal of the background and foreground shows a flawless use of space. The
distance between the foreground and background was well selected for this piece. This is die to
the fact that the two children are not close enough to exaggerate the way they look but they are
also not too far away. The distance covered in the background communicates a message of clarity
and relaxation that is evident in the children s faces. Two dimensional portrayal of the painting
appears to fit the calculated purpose. The

Charles Ludwig s The Wright Brothers
The Wright brothers; two famous inventors that we think we all know, but do we really? My
book, The Wright Brothers by Charles Ludwig, takes us back to where it all began. The book
describes where Orville and Wilbur Wright lived, believed in ,and where they first came up with
the idea of the airplane. The author also added the struggles they went through and how they
solved them. There are two main characters to this book,Wilbur Wright and Orville wright.
Wilbur and Orville were two inventors. Their biggest invention was the world s first successful
airplane. Wilbur Wright was born April 16, 1867 on a farm near Melville, Indiana. Orville Wright
was born August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio. Wilbur and Orville discovered they wanted to be
inventors when their dad, Bishop Milton Wright, brought them back an invention that could fly up
if you twisted the screws. In 1881, the Wright family moved to Richmond, Indiana. In Richmond
Orville developed a love of kites, and soon began making his own at home. Wilbur Wright was a

with the weight of the plane. The engine was too heavy. They got an aluminum block to cover the
engine. They made the frame out of spruce , which is a light type of wood. They used a primitive
fuel injection system, with no carburetor fuel pump. They had a problem trying to control the

How Did Rodgers And Hammerstein Create A Revolution In...
Rodgers and Hammerstein:
Richard Rodgers was only 16 when he began his musical collaboration with Lorenz Hart. Rodgers
was acting as composer and Hart as lyricist. Manhattan was their first breakthrough in 1925 and
other songs including jazz standards such as Blue moon (1934) and My funny valentine (1937), Isn
t It Romantic? (1932) and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered (1940). Together, Rodgers and
Hart wrote the music and lyrics for 26 Broadway musicals. Which includes: On your toes (1936),
Babes in Arms (1937) and their last collaboration, A Connecticut Yankee (1943).In 1943 their
collaboration ended due to artistic differences and Hart s declining health. Thus the revolution
within Musical theatre started.
Change Slide:
Hammerstein wrote his own play, called The Light (1919) and was produced by his uncle. In
1920, he collaborated with Rodgers and Hart in writing a Varsity show called Fly with Me.Short
after he dropped out of Grad school to pursue a full time career in Musical theatre. Hammerstein
s first success as a librettist was with Wildflower, a collaboration with Otto Harbach produced in
1923. He achieved more success with 1924 s Rose Marie, which he created in collaboration with
Harbach as well as Herbert Stothart and Rudolf Friml. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hammerstein continued to collaborate with Kern on several musicals including Sweet Adeline

he wrote the lyrics and book for Carmen Jones, an updated version of George Bizet s Carmen set
during World War II and featuring an African American cast. The musical was adapted into a 1954

Who Is Ophelia Escapize In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth and how Escapism can Ruin you. In Pan s Labyrinth, the character of Ophelia
represents how escapism s disconnect from reality might cause damage to relationships and
severe injury or death. Towards the beginning of the story, Ophelia s discovery of the fawn and
the revelation of her being, The daughter of the king of the underworld, shows how she uses
escapism as a means of creating a fictitious world that helps her avoid the new, horrible life that
she endures under her stepfather. However, the adventures that this fantasy sends her on creates a
strain in her relationships with her mother and stepfather, which becomes evident when her
mother reprimands her saying, You have disappointed me, and your father too. Furthermore, when
the faun gives her a mandrake root as a remedy for her mother s illness, it demonstrates how
Ophelia uses escapism as an outlet for her fear, and as a means of feeling like she has some
control over whether her mother lives or dies. However, when the mother burns the mandrake root

Public Helth Nursing in the Health Care Reform
The healthcare reform is to help increase medical care to individulas to better the health of the

funding to make the improvements in the community. As the American Public Health Association
reports, only 3 percent of our health care spending is focused on prevention and public health, when
chronic conditions the most common, costly and preventable of all health problems account for 86
percent of our health care costs . The Health Care Reform has made a special funding geared toward
public health. As the American Public health Association reports, the Prevention Fund is the nation

Franz Kafka Allusion
Gregor or God?
Comparing God to a vile vermin who is meant to repulse us can be offensive to many and is a
task that is not lightly done. In Kafka s Metamorphosis, it is hard to believe any allusion to the
bible because of Kafka s religion is Judaism. However, we see many different symbolism in the
story that represent different aspects of the Bible and most importantly we realize Gregor can be a
reflection of Jesus Christ himself. Franz Kafka used his ability as a writer to manifest an idea that
Gregor could have been an allusion to the savior, Jesus Christ, mainly by providing equivalent
scenarios found in the Bible.
First of all, Jesus Christ was a caring man to ungrateful, difficult people, and this unvarying
conflict is endured in Metamorphosis. God, his father, brought down Jesus to care and cure
diseases of these unbelieving and malicious people. Yet, above everything else Jesus Christ loved
and cared for the people on earth; despite this fact, Jesus Christ felt persecuted, He was oppressed
and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like
a sheep that is silent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Jesus Christ was considered to be alienated by the village in the bible which connects to
Kafka s theme of alienation, so the theme could have been inspired by the stories in the
Bible.Despite all these connection critics still choose to believe that Gregor Samsa had no
connection to Jesus Christ. Due to the fact, that Kafka s religion is Judaism many argue that it
would not be reasonable for him to write such a vivid allegory to the New Testament which is
something he would not believe in. Some even believe Jesus Christ s sacrifices were far too
grand to compare to Gregor s, yet we distinguished so many aspects of the Bible hidden into the
text of Franz Kafka s work that disputes these

Erickson Reflection
This week we learned about Erickson and his theory on development. Erikson studied under the
Freud method, but unlike Freud, Erikson actually did research on infants and children as they
were developing. I really enjoyed learning about Erikson considering I have a 5 month old at
home growing away. It was interesting to compare these videos to where my baby was in
development. Another interesting thing about this module was the James Marcia Identity
Status which consists of 4 parts foreclosure, achievement, diffusion, and moratorium. Diffusion
is when you have not really made a commitment to anything yet. This is typically a high school
junior/senior or even college freshman/sophomore. They have not yet figured out what they
want to do with life yet and honestly, aren t too worried about. In my diffusion score I received a
5 meaning I guess I am in the middle. I m not too sure if I agree with this accusation or not, but
maybe that is why I scored this number. Although I had my career path figured out and I was on
the path to it up until a few months ago I feel as though I have started testing the waters in other
areas now. These areas are still very close to what my original plan was. Now that I have a family
I am focused more now than ever to pick the perfect career for not just me, but my family. I feel as
though I have always been well organized planned women, but throwing a baby, husband, and other

Kant Dualism
Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) is the central figure in modern philosophy. He synthesized early
modern rationalism and empiricism, set the terms for much of the nineteenth and twentieth century
philosophy, and continues to exercise a significant influence today in metaphysics, epistemology,
ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, and other fields. Kant was involved in the crisis of the
enlightenment. Enlightenment is about thinking for oneself rather than letting others think for you.
It was to replace traditional authorities with the authority of individual human reason, but it was not
about overturning traditional moral and religious beliefs. (Stanford.edu, 2010)

Idealism is an interesting way of thinking. When you have never studied or thought about the
different ways the mind works, it can be very interesting and confusing subject. Thinking of
material and nonmaterial things, how many Gods we have, human or nonhuman, and whether or
not something is true.
Ethics is the area of philosophy that has to do with how to live in the world. Hardly any area of
philosophy is more directly applicable to real life than ethics, because it deals with the kinds of
decisions we have to make both in the long and short term. There are two basic perspectives of
ethics, Act based approaches to ethics predictably focus on doing what we should or should not
do, how we should act. Virtue based ethics, as it is called, is more focused on things like
character, motives, and true happiness rather than on whether specific actions are right or wrong.
Also there are at least three different kinds of act based approaches to ethics, duty based ethics,
utilitarianism, and Egoist. The problem with all ethical theories is the complexity of life. Life is
filled with no win situations. (Schenck, K., 2014 pg.

The Effect Of Boiling Water Changed My Life

why.
Taking the temperature of boiling water changed my life. It wasn t until eight years after
participating in a simple, yet elegant, marine science lab experiment that I realized its full impact
on me. It had infiltrated my life so quietly that the effect had gone completely unnoticed. At least
consciously. Unconsciously, as I look back, there were loads of little signs that something was

Did the other groups? Did we all have the same equipment? Had it been calibrated so that
everyone started with the same baseline? What about the water itself? Did it all come from the
same source? What else could possibly influence the outcome of this experiment? Another hour
passed quickly as we discussed hundreds of possibilities for the variations in our recorded results.
At the end of our lab session, we were assigned our first 10 page lab report for the term. Ten pages
on taking the temperature of boiling water!? How would we manage to get ten pages out of this
simple assignment? It turns out that ten pages was conservative. Our lab reports would follow the
scientific method: We d state our hypothesis and the assumptions we had before conducting the
experiment; we d list and describe the procedures followed, step by step, including a list of the
equipment and other materials used; we d discuss the collection of data and provide detailed
notes of the recordings; and finally, draw some conclusions about the findings. When all was said
and done, each of us turned in a ten or more page report that had opened our eyes to the importance
of replication of experiments, and to standardization in procedures and equipment to minimize
experimental error. Eight years later, as I was waxing nostalgic to a prospective honors student
sitting in my office, I recalled that boiling water experiment and

Huge white smiles and warm handshakes is the kind of welcoming everyone receives as they board

hits you. That feeling of happiness clearly lets you know you have boarded a plane. Stepping foot
onto the plane you are automatically greeted by warm smiles and handshakes. Both the flight

You watch as various people around you slam their suitcases into their overhead bins and a loud

Chomsky And The War On Terror
We live in a day and age of hypocrisy and it seems that a majority don t acknowledge that we are
all total hypocrites. Noam Chomsky, a well known American linguist, philosopher, cognitive
scientist, logician, political commentator, social justice activist, and anarcho syndicalist advocate
does an elaborate job in his speech given at Harvard University, to make us question if there really
is a war on terror. Chomsky calls everybody a hypocrite and uses the U.S. Army Manual definition
of terrorismto argue that there can t be a war on terrorism because the U.S. is also a terrorist group
itself. We can t fight something if we ourselves do that same thing. Chomsky backs up his claim
with many pieces of evidence and facts about the U.S. involvement with terrorist actions. His
argument is well put because it does a good job in making us understand what is really happening
with the U.S. and the war on terror.
People are probably thinking Chomsky must be crazy, to call America a terrorist group.
Americans view America as a nation that fights terror and fail to look at all the reports and
articles about the U.S. actually doing acts that are defined to be terrorist acts. If you love
America, then you must know about the great document called The Declaration of Independence.

changing our environment. He contrasts pictures of 1975 to 2001 pictures of the Rondonia to
show how much we are expanding and clearing rainforest land. We are running out of land, today
we are using 40 percent of Earth s land surface for crops and pastures. In the future we are going
increase our usage and this is also going to deplete our water resources. Agricultureuses 70 percent
of our water. He points out an irrigation field in Arizona where they are growing lettuce in the
middle of the desserts using a lot of water. To show how much water we have used so far, he
shows pictures of the Colorado River in the 1950s and the pictures are staggering.

Comparison Of Astro Boy And Rosy The Robot
Comparison of Astro Boy Rosy the Robot
A lot of kids and teenagers enjoy watching animation TV. Some popular series include Astro Boy
and The Jetsons . The characters of Astro Boy in Astro Boy and Rosy the Robot in The Jetsons
have a lot in common, such as that they are both robots, as well as many differences. The evidence
collected to support these facts include the characters appearance, personalities and their role in
society.
One of Astro Boy s and Rosy s biggest differences is their appearance; however, they also have
similarities. Differences include that Astro Boy has the appearance of a human boy, although we
are constantly reminded that underneath he is still a robot. Whereas Rosy looks entirely like a
mechanical robot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were both created to serve their masters or creators. To serve is Rosy s only purpose. This
clearly outlines her role, as well as showing that she was made to do the undesired jobs of
humans. Astro Boy not only has the purpose of being a weapon and doing the unsafe jobs of
humans, but also to act as a replacement for the scientist s son. At the end of the episode, he
signs a contract with a ringmaster that he will work without being paid because he was ordered
to do so. This also shows his robotic function, which is to serve and follow orders. The obvious
similarity between both characters is that they are made to serve humans. They do the unsafe or
undesired jobs of humans, as well as follow their orders. The evidence of the roles of the robots
clearly shows their robotic nature, as well as clear similarities and

Great Expectations- Character Analysis Essay
Estella Havisham: Most readers are appalled at the cold hearted and cruel ways of Estella, but
any criticism directed at her is largely undeserved. She was simply raised in a controlled
environment where she was, in essence, brainwashed by Miss Havisham. Nonetheless, her
demeanor might lead one to suspect that she was a girl with a heart of ice. Estella is scornful
from the moment she is introduced, when she remarks on Pip s coarse hands and thick boots.
However, her beauty soon captivates Pip and she is instilled as the focal point of his thoughts for
much of the remainder of the novel. The fact that Pip becomes infatuated with her is also not
Estella s fault. By no means is there any evidence that she loved him. She does not flirt with... Show

The entire story is told through the eyes of an adult Pip, even though Pip is a small child during
parts of it. In his early years, Pip was strongly influenced by his guardians, Joe Gargery and his
wife, Mrs. Joe. Joe instills a sense of honesty, industry, and friendliness in Pip, while Mrs. Joe
does a great deal to contribute to his desires and ambitions through her constant emphasis on
pomp and property. Pip is generally good natured and thoughtful, and very imaginative. His false
values, which are bolstered by his love of Estella, decrease the amount of respect that he has for
Joe. His alienation from Joe and Joe s values builds through the second part of the novel, as Pip
becomes selfish, greedy, and foolish. During the period when his expectations are intact, his only
morally positive act was to secretly help Herbert Pocket into a good position. Upon discovering
that Magwitch is his benefactor, a new phase begins in Pip s moral evolution. At first, Pip no
longer feels the same human compassion for Magwitch that he did the first time he saw him out on
the marshes. Gradually, Pip changes his perception of Magwitch, unlearning what he has learned.
Pip becomes concerned with the man, and not the expectations that he could provide. When Jaggers
presents the thought that there may be a way for Pip to get his hands on Magwitch s property, the
idea sounds hollow and utterly empty to Pip. Pip learns about Estella s parentage through

Patient Safety Is Vital For The Practice Of Medicine
Patient safety is vital in the practice of medicine. In medical laboratory science, we may not have a
direct contact with the patient, but every duty we perform can affect the outcome of the patient s
health. Patient safety involves being able to collect samples and follow the protocols for the test
result. Accuracy in medicinemay be a very high standard, but it is worth it when it comes to a
patient s life. A medical practitioner should always have the expectation not to incur more harm
on the patient. A patient comes to the hospital for a solution to their problem and should not go
back home with more problems. Patient safety includes interpreting results accurately, doing the
right test and following protocols. The protocol for testing may be long to read, difficult to
follow when you have a large workload but vital in medicine. A medical laboratory scientist
should always have the code of ethics at heart to perform an error free lab test on a patient.
Shortcuts may look easy, but the result poses damage to the patient. The moment you made up
your mind to be a laboratory practitioner was the when you decided to take responsibility of caring
and ensured error free for your patient.
A laboratory safe practice impacts the safety of a patient, his/her whole life, and the performance of
other practitioners in the treatment chain. A wrong interpretation of laboratory result by laboratory
scientist can affect a physician s diagnosis and prescription. The wrong diagnosis

The For A Good Risk Management Plan
Alcohol and rock concerts often intersected over the course of time; plenty of concerts and
festivals have either used alcohol as a sponsor or ancillary revenue. Alcohol and other types of
concessions sold at festivals are considered ancillary revenue because it is derived from goods or
services other than the primary service or good being offered (What is ancillary revenue, 2015,
para.1). Therefore, serving alcohol at festivals is another way for the promotors, event managers,
and the venue to obtain additional source of revenue. As the event manager for the Freedom festival
, a rock roll festival being held at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, NC; it is the intention of
the festival to provide the patrons with a safe and fun environment to enjoy their favorite music.
The basis for a good risk management plan is providing a risk assessment for the event before
determining how to address the possible risks. A risk assessment is a process to identify potential
hazards and analyze what could happen if a hazard occurs (Risk Assessment, 2015, para.1).
Therefore, the risk assessment will be used to identify the possible problems that can arise from
alcohol. The Freedom Festival event planning committee is aware of, and concerned about the risks
and issues that are associated with the availability of alcohol throughout the course of the event, so
they plan is to create a risk management plan to address these risks. Violence, alcohol poisoning,
drunk driving, underage

Criticism Of The Electoral College
In the United States, an electoral college system is used to elect a president. It is vital in any
democratic country to allow a vote from the people to elect their representative leaders, especially
in an influential country like the United States. However, due to the process of the electoral
college system placed by the Framers, a candidate may win the popular vote but lose the electoral
vote. Such an event may upset certain members of our country as recently seen in our latest
presidential electionof 2016 where candidate Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but lost the
electoral vote to candidate Donald Trump.
Using the 2016 presidential election as an example, we can see how the Electoral College can
allow a candidate to take the winner take all system towards the presidency. Another example of
how a candidate can win the election by winning the electoral vote and not the popular vote can
be seen in the presidential election of 2000, where candidate George W. Bush lost the popular
vote to candidate Al Gore but won the electoral vote, drawing criticism to the Electoral College,
with some saying that it has outlived the purpose for which it was created (Duquette, 2017). In this
winner take all system, more attention is focused towards electoral districts rather than a national
platform. For example, if a third party were to have a chance in winning an election in a district,
the voter must take this fact into consideration (Bowler, 1994). This makes it possible

Catullus Relationship Essay
In Catullus 2, it does not seem like Catullus and Lesbia have any kind of relationship at this
point, he seems to be admiring her from afar. This poem gives the impression that Catullus is
stalking Lesbia. He wishes to be the sparrow on Lesbia s lap as she is loving and affectionate
towards the sparrow. He wishes he could be with her and play with her like she does with the
sparrow. Catullus clearly desires Lesbia s affections and holds her in high regard at this point in
time.
In Catullus 5, Catullus and Lesbia have now entered into a physical relationship. In this poem,
Catullus brags about the many kisses they have shared and is rejoicing in their love. Catullus
beseeches Lesbia for her constant affections and believes that no amount of kisses from her would
ever be enough. He wants an infinite number of kisses. Catullus is besotted with Lesbia and
believes that nothing could go wrong at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He comes to the realisation that Lesbia is fickle and doesn t always mean what she says. A
positive sign in the relationship comes when Catullus states that Lesbia would choose to marry
him over anyone else, even Jupiter who is a God. It seems as though the tables have turned and for
once Lesbia feels more for Catullus than he does for her. Catullus and Lesbia s relationship is
tumultuous and their feelings for each other change rapidly constantly.
In Catullus 72, Catullus and Lesbia seem to have parted ways. This is a sad poem as Catullus
reveals that Lesbia has been with someone else but that his feelings for her remain. Once again
Catullus is reminiscing about the good times they shared together and the passionate love they had
for one another. Catullus asserts that Lesbia has injured him in such a manner that his is no longer
as friendly as he once was. He calls Lesbia insignificant which leads us to believe that he has given
up on her and their relationship in

Persuasive Essay On Cybercrime
Imagine, one day you wake up and you re running late. On your way into work you stop at your
favorite coffee shop. You order your coffee and your muffin, and you go to swipe your card only
to find out it declines. What do you do? You call your bank and they tell you several accounts
have been hacked and yours was one of them. Now you have no money, no access to your
savings. Everything you ve ever worked for is gone and it only took one click. This is a very
real possibility, and it doesn t stop at bank accounts. Cybercrime is at an all time high, and no one
is safe. Cyber threats have vastly grown over the past decade, we need to better prepare ourselves
and become more aware in the event of future attacks. Cybercrime is not limited to bank fraudor
identity theft, it is any crime that is committed by use of an electronic device, such as a computer
or cellphone. For example, in August 2001 Rafael Nunez also known as RaFa successfully
hacked into a NASA employee s computer and obtained classified shuttle designs for future
space crafts. While this attack did not cause any real harm, he did leak the designs to a local
reporter to prove his theory that NASA isn t as secure as everyone may have thought. Another
form of cybercrime would be internet stalking, one out of twelve women experience some type of
cyber stalking in their lifetime, and most predators are men. This could lead to cyberbullying,
which is something you see occur every day. October 17th, 2006,

Essay on Gender and Music Preference
Gender and Music Preference There are so many different forms and genres of music that people
admire. Even older genres that have seemed to die out still have fans such as disco or polka.
Many researchers discuss why people favor the music that they do. This has been a popular
topic in music research considering how important music has become in everyday life. Music is
played in the car, on the internet, on cellphones, and even behind commercials on television. It is
hard to imagine a world without it. Now there are many reasons discussed about why people
prefer one kind of music over another, such as one s age. One s age could determine what music
was popular when they were a kid, or what genres they have been around to experience.... Show

Music genres can be split into categories for what genders are dominating the majority of their
listeners. Heavier music such as rap and rock seem to appeal more to a young male because of the
reoccurring themes of aggression and independence. Whereas lighter music normally involves
themes of emotion and love which a girl can better relate too. As mentioned above, I believe age,
ethnicity, culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left
out. While some believe that music preference all belongs to the individual and not about fitting
into the generic stereotypes. I disagree and believe that gender does take part in the music selection
one makes.
Literature Review Kelly D. Schwartz and Gregory T. Fouts created a study set out to examine the
personality characteristics and developmental issues of three different groups of adolescent
music listeners. The first group analyzed was adolescent listeners who preferred light qualities of
music. The second group was those who preferred heavy kinds of music, and the last were for
those who preferred a wide range of music. One hundred and sixty four adolescents participated in
the study. The results of this research showed that each of the three music preference groups was
tended to demonstrate a unique profile of personality and developmental issues (2001), Susan A. O

Essay about Reasons for Global Warming and What Can Be...
Global warming is an increase in the Earth s average atmospheric temperature that causes
corresponding changes in climate. The Earth goes through natural heating and cooling cycles, but
many people think recent spikes in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases due to developing
industry are interfering with the Earth s natural cycle, causing irregular global warming. The theory
that humans burning fossil fuels causes global warming isn t completely based on fact. It is based
more on predictions of the future and assumptions of the past which cannot accurately be
determined. Global warming is a part of Earth s natural process, not because of human pollution.

Single celled marine organisms that live at the bottom of Earth s oceans gain nutrients from
windblown dust that is captured by surface plankton who sink down to the bottom of the Southern
Ocean when they die, providing nutrients to these organisms. When nourished, these organisms
give off high levels of carbon dioxide into the water, which rise to the surface and mix with the
atmosphere causing fluctuations in carbon dioxide levels. Changes in the atmospheric interaction
with the chemicals of these organisms vary highly when transitioning from interglacial to glacial
periods, and can have rapid impacts on climate at particularly low levels of windblown dust in the
oceans. More research is being conducted to find the impact of these microorganisms on the
climate, but it is believed that they have caused rapid changes to Earth s climate in the past. Finally,
another factor to why global warming is most likely not human caused, is that temperature
measurement is relatively new. The oldest series of temperature measurement is from Central
England and goes back to the mid 17th century. To get approximate measurements of the global
temperature from thousands or even millions of years ago proxies (substitutes) must be used.
Proxies of temperature measurement are tree rings and ice cores, but these are not entirely accurate,
it is harder to obtain accurate measurements from further back in time. So, it is not certain that the

Feminist Feminism In Frankenstein
Born to Mary Wollstonecraft in August of 1797, Mary Shelley joined a lineage rich with feministic
pursuits. Undoubtedly inspired by her mother s famed Vindication on the Rights of Woman, Mary
Shelley portrayed feminist ideals throughout her own literature. Her most acclaimed work,
Frankenstein, emphasizes the patriarchy through its depiction of Victor Frankensteins nineteenth
century Genevan society. Both the overwhelming maledominance and lack of female presence
exhibited throughout Frankenstein highlights the importance of females among society.
When Victor Frankenstein seeks to fulfill his divine desire to become the creator of new life A
new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would
owe their being to me (33) he eliminates the inherent need for a feminine presence among society.
By granting himself the title of sole creator of human life, Victor strips females of their primary
role in the reproduction process a role which females have historically derived cultural power
from. In his pursuit to create life that owes its existence entirely to himself, Victor also endeavors
to steal this cultural power from females by eliminating its source. Without the power that their role
in the reproduction process affords them, the need for a feminine presence among society ceases to
exist thus making way for what Victor truly desires: a male exclusive society.
This definitive lack of feminine presence in the novel is further

The Cold War Was A War Between The Western And Eastern...
The Cold War was a war between the western and eastern sides of the world. The war was a big
intense political discussion between conservative and social democratic parties across Europe.
The war majorly was between the United States and the Russian Soviet Union. The war started
around 1945 and went on for close to 45 years. The cold waraffected more than just the Soviet
Unionand the United States it affected the whole world. The leaders of the United States were,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight David Eisenhower, and Ronald Wilson
Reagan. The primary leader of the Soviet Union was Joseph Stalin. In the paper I will talk about the
person Joseph Stalin was and, what he did during the war, how he affected the war, his later
years in the war. Joseph Stalin was born in Djugashvili in the middle of December in 1878. Not
much is known about his younger years as a child. He was an only child and it is said that he
grew up in a very poor house hold. Stalin s remorseless attitude can be credited to his father
actions since he was beaten as a child. Due to this Stalin dedicated his life to his studies which in
turn lead to him getting a scholarship. He then used this scholarship at a catholic school in hopes
of becoming a priest. While studying to become, a priest he also began indulging in the readings
of Karl Marx. This influenced him to practice Marxism and got him kicked out of school for it.
In Stalin s earlier years he started out as a political agitator, he

When I Have Fears, by John Keats and Holy Sonnet 1, by...
Mortality is a moving and compelling subject. This end is a confirmation of one s humanity and
the end of one s substance. Perhaps that is why so many writers and poets muse about their own
death in their writings. Keats and John Donne are two such examples of musing poets who share
the human condition experience in When I Have Fears and Holy Sonnet1.
Keats begins each quatrain of the Shakespearean sonnet with a modifier, and each modifier indexes
the subject of that quatrain. The modifier therefore gives his sonnet a three part structure. The first
quatrain is what he fears; the second quatrain is what he beholds; the third quatrain is what he feels;
and the ending couplet sums up all of the quatrains. However, the structure could ... Show more

He also calls the addressed fair creature of the hour, and recognizes the constraint of time on love,
for an hour is fleeting. He also recognizes the fickleness of it who is to say someone else will be
his addressed the next hour? He continues to suggest that the addressed has some sort of
deceptive and illusory faery power that creates an unreflecting love. Deception and illusion
typically are detrimental for those who experience it. Keats does not reflect on losing the chance
for love as something terribly unhappy, for he has a pre existing negative perception of love. Love
is also unreflecting, so love won t be reciprocated. Keats then ends the segment about love half a
line earlier in this quatrain than all other quatrains.
Keats introduces the summation of the poem early, in the second part of the last line in quatrain
four. This choice reflects how great his impending death weighs on his mind. In the final couplet,
Keats s dark views of love leave him to stand alone and not experience the love mentioned in the
previous quatrain. Of course, alone might not necessarily mean devoid of love; he could mean
that he s alone because of his hopeless thoughts on the subject. Or he could mean he is alone
because he does not have the emblems Love and Fame. Wide world dwarfs him, making it even
sadder that in spite of all the vast opportunities he has had with different cultures,

The Social Security System Is The Most Successful...
The Social Security system is perhaps the most successful government social insurance program
in the nation s history; and began with the Social Security Act in 1935. Social Security is a
needed federal system that encourages income stability to millions of people across the United
States. This is accomplished by giving a stable flow of income to replenish lost wages that occur
as a result of disability, retirement, or death of a family member. There are about 59 million people
in the U.S. that receive Social Security. Most of them are the required 65 years of age or older.
Sadly about half of the 59 million people rely solely on Social Security to pay their bills and
everyday necessities.

When the average MPC out of Social Security increases, the larger impact on the economy it will
have due to that income being circulated through the economy. Typically, those who have lower
income will be more likely to spend more of their income than higher income households. Also,
we see that generally those who receive Social Security to in fact have a lower income, and that
money is a large portion of that income. This will then lead them to have a higher than average
MPC. These lower income households will likely spend the income from Social Security on the
daily necessities, which impacts a different segment of the economy rather than if it was spent
on luxury or travel. Age is also a factor in Social Security as well as how it affects an individual s
MPC. Those who are older and have reached the point in time where they more likely to spend
their assets rather than save, usually have a higher MPC than the public. This is where we can
see that altering MPCs for the age of Social Security beneficiaries, as well as their income, would
have an increased effect on the economy regarding Social Security payouts (Koenig, G. AARP.,
Myles, A. Mississippi State University, 2013)

context of total federal budget and the problem of deficits and debt. In 2010, he created the new

Environmental Hormone Mimics: Their Effects on Public Health and the Environment Cassandra
Kaur Sheanh California State University, Fresno Abstract This paper explores three published
articles that reflect the findings from studies conducted to examine the relationships between
environmental hormone mimics (endocrine disruptors) and their effect on the human body. This
paper specifically discusses three key environmental hormone mimics: bisphenol A, dioxins, and
pesticides. Each of the three studies links the chosen environmental hormone mimic to
abnormalities caused by exposure to the chemicals. Bisphenol A is linked directly to altering
estrogen levels in women. The consequences are carried onto the child if the carrying mother
ingests BPA while pregnant. Dioxins are extremely harmful and cannot be disposed of easily despite
the amount of land, money, and clean up efforts that are taken. Pesticides simply from working in
fields or by eating fruits and vegetables are very harmful in men. A male s reproductive system is
directly impaired as sperm counts drop dramatically and abnormalities effecting sperm size and
shape occur. Environmental Hormone Mimics and Their Effects on Public Health and the
Environment The National Institute of Environmental Health Services defines environmental
hormone mimics as a generic term for chemical substances, termed endocrine disruptors, that enter
the body and mimic hormones thus disrupting the

Race As A Cultural Construction Of Race In lecture, our class grappled with the concept of race as a cultural construction, and how the issues that derive from race only have meaning because we assign it to them; mankind could have chosen anything to classify themselves, but somehow settled on skin color. In the words of Clifford Geertz, man is an animal suspended in webs of significance he himself has spun racism would be one of those webs that humanity has tangled itself up in (qtd. in Hickman). We have studied raceas a mythical reality, and racism as a cultural model that people have adopted in order to deal with the complexities of the past. • 6. Frankenstein Comparative Essay Context is the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood. Every text that is created has been influenced by its context both personally and socially. Many literature texts can be written in different time periods and yet still have many similarities. An example of this is between Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, written in 1818 and John Donne s A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, written in 1611. Both texts use science as a basis for their exploration into the workings of humanity and the complexity of love. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein s journey as he reanimates a dead body, and the consequences that follow. As the monster gains knowledge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mary Shelley sided with the Church: due to her religious background, and felt that science would consume mankind. Scientists brought about new ideas that challenged the Church and its interpretation of God s perfect world. The novel brings into account the issues that men, prominently religious men, thought about, such as alchemy, the manipulation of electricity and the idea of creation of life. Shelley s perception of science, the concept of science versus religion, her ideology against science and rationality, and the fear of scientific advancements were all incorporated in her novel Frankenstein. Mary Shelley opposes the theory of Darwin, where she advances a man made creation into the monster, and by doing this incorporates the fears on the ideology of evolution. Mary Shelley holds the belief that science will one day lead to God like creations. Victor Frankenstein believes that he has released a race of devils ... upon the earth, who might make the very existence of the species of man a condition precarious and full of terror (Shelley 1982, p. 163), after he s unable to contain the creature s extreme powers which has led to destructive ends. Mary Shelley s negative views on science and the advancements of science fuel her creation of this novel and uses this novel as a means to voice her opinion and potentially persuade others to align with her views. The monster in Frankenstein is a projection of Mary Shelley s fears for the advancement of science and warns others by showing the consequences that can occur from such advancements, ... Ryan library here on campus. I didn t know what to expect at first. So, I spent a good twenty minutes before the meeting coming up with a definition of culture in case it was brought up in the meeting. I decided that my personal definition of culture is how a person lives their everyday life based on societal beliefs and norms. This lead me to think about the French culture, and how I have seen their lives portrayed. My partner Romane and I are from two different worlds. We can converse well with each other as long as we try to understand and respect the differences of our cultures. There are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We compared the systems and the effectiveness of both education systems. Both France and America have similar systems in the fact that the ages are around the same when you start and end your education. We decided to look deeper and compare prices, the atmosphere of the classes, and the sizes of the universities. In France, universities are free for students, unless you decide to go to a private institution. A private institution is the path that Romane chose. Also, they do not have your traditional college campus. It is just the school. American college institutions can be, and are, very pricey. The price significantly increases if one would like to go to a private college. At Romane s college in France there is a Bureau des Г©tudiants which translates to office of students. This office is a group of fifteen students who organize student parties. There are alcohol at these parties because it is legal to drink at age eighteen in France. It astonished her that we are not allowed to drink, or purchase alcohol until we reach the age of twenty one. Our equivalent to the office of students would be the campus group named LPAC. I will analyse the cost to the music industry of internet piracy over the last decade, Quantify and qualify the argument that an illegal download is equal to one song purchased. I will use the statistical and financial data from the RAII and other authorities to outline my findings. Also I will controversially conclude whether the music industry is benefiting from music piracy, whether the music industry is now an open market business, and the attitude of artists to an open market compared to that of their record labels and the RAII copyright authority. 3 Overview 3.1 The Definition of Internet Piracy and the Damage it causes The term internet piracy has been around for the last decade, describing the illegal activity of downloading and sharing copyrighted material freely. The Recording Industry Association of America warns companies and consumers about the threat of internet piracy: Music theft is a real, on going and evolving challenge. Both the volume of music acquired illegally without paying for it and the resulting drop in revenues are staggering. Digital sales, while on the rise, are not making up the difference (RIAA, 2012) In 2007 the Institute for Policy and Innovation estimated that the total cost of Internet Piracy, specifically to the music industry, is costing the US economy over $12 billion a year: As a consequence of global and U.S. based piracy of sound recordings, the U.S. economy loses $12.5 ... • 10. August Wilson Fences Sometimes you have to pick the gun up to put the gun down. This quote was said by Malcolm X, who was an African American Minister and a human rights activist. It means that sometimes you have to fight in order to achieve peace. I agree with what he said because in order to get what you want you have to fight for it. Two literary works that reflect this quote are Fences, a play about the struggles of African American before and during the Civil Rights Era in the 1950s and 60s, by August Wilson and The Yellow Wallpaper a short story that shows the difference between women and men during that time, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The lack of acknowledgment in the play Fences between Troy and Cory cause their relationship to decline even further. One of the greatest sources of disappointment in Troy s life is the fact that he wasn t allowed to play pro baseball, Even though he used to hit homeruns in the Negro Leagues, he couldn t go to the majors because of racial discrimination. He doesn t let Cory play football, because he doesn t want Cory to feel what he felt during his time. Troy s lack of acknowledgment of Cory s potential destroys Cory s dream by not signing the papers and not letting the college recruiter from coming. I got sense enough not to let my boy get hurt playing no sports (Wilson 39) He unconsciously stats that he doesn t want Cory to feel how he felt during his time. This quote references flashback because in this quote Troy refers back to what had happened to him during his athletic career, and how it affected his life. In this quote he speaks like a father who is making decisions for his son and his future, even though the people around him is telling him that the time has changed and it is not like before. • 11. Parenting Is A Legacy For Children Parenting: A Legacy For Children Parenting is a process of supporting children through the ups and downs of life. From infancy to adulthood, parents play an important role in the development of their children. They are expected to ensure the child s health and safety, prepare them to function as citizens of society, and teach them about what is important in life. Many parents learn how to parent by looking at the way they were raised. However, with the stresses and strains that families face today, it is also a good idea to be open to adding parenting tools to their toolbox. These tools are taught at places such as a parent education group for ex offenders. Most of them have children of various ages. A social worker leads the group to enhance their knowledge and skill sets and share topics such as being present in the child s life, praising a child, effective discipline, and unconditional love. Parents need to be present in their child s life, more connected, despite all the struggles and chaos of living. Both child and parent need to get sufficient sleep, which enables them to function better. When people are sleep deprived, they do not perform as well and are likely to be irritable. Waiting until the weekend or a day off from regular activities to catch up on sleep does not work. Also, cell phones need a break. Constantly being attached to cell phones hinders people s abilities to interact. Parents who model this behavior may make their child feel that phone conversations are more important than interactions with them. There was a woman who said hello to a teenager while in the community. In response, the young man was not sure of what to say. He was so used to talking and texting to people on his cell phone that he found it difficult to talk to someone in person. In addition, join in on your child s fun. If a child is doing arts and crafts, playing a sport, or watching a TV show, participate in the activities. Even when a parent is not physically able to do a sport, they can ask their child about it. They can also go to sporting events and talk about the activity. The main point is to stay connected to your child and their interests. In response to the social worker s presentation, various ... Either way, our world is based around our natural rights. After the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was written, this caused a wave of revolution. This Declaration had an impact on populations such as Haiti, but also had a major impact on countless other slave populations. For the basis of slavery, we read through Abina and the Important men and saw how different characters in the story defined the term slavery. Another view came from a former slave Frederick Douglas who was a leading abolitionist. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though there were a large number of African Americans on the plantation, the whites still owned them, being merchants, slave masters, etc. This land was a major target for sugar, everybody wanted this land. Following the revolution, the meaning of rights was different for the whites and blacks. As Strayer quotes on page 793 in the textbook, To the slaves, the promise of the French Revolution was a personal freedom that challenged the entire slave labor system. Slaves burned 1,000 plantations and killed hundreds of whites. As a part of the African American race, there was a former slave who led the blacks to a victory over the French rule. This former slaves name was Toussaint Louverture. Following the revolt, many British people realized that slavery was going against human rights. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen outlined the rights that humans were supposed to be given. Some of these rights included natural rights, political and civic rights , according to (Strayer, 812). So as a result of the revolt and abolition, people were now agreeing that slavery violated the African American human rights. In the story of Abina and the Important Men, we take a look at a West African woman who was enslaved and had brought her case to court with the Important Men. A majority of this story takes place in the court room, where Abina brings her former master to court. The beginning of this story takes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Analysis Of The Movie The Babadook The Babadook is a haunting film filled with twists and turns that leave the audience terrified without ever utilizing a single clichГ© jump scare. The audience is constantly in a state of dread and fear along with the protagonist. One of the final scenes in the movie shows the protagonist walking into her basement to feed the monster that she keeps down there. The scene is a unique ending that is not commonly seen in horror films. It revolves around implicit meaning and the interesting point of view editing. Without the implicit meaning of the filmand the point of view editing in this scene, the emotional impact of the film would have been much weaker. The scene begins with the protagonist, Amelia, standing at the entrance to the basement with Sam. She instructs her son to go outside and play, while she enters the basement. The audience sees Amelia slowly walk down the stairs with a bowl full of worms in her hands. It leaves the viewer a bit confused the first time they watch the film due to the unusual nature of the act. She sets the bowl down on the ground and the camera takes on the viewpoint of the Babadook as he comes roaring out of his hiding spot. The protagonist soothes the monster before returning upstairs to her son and her normal life. The scene provides an excellent representation of implicit meaning and point of view editing. I definitely agree with Simon when he talks about the creativity and ingenious of humans. The innovations we have today in not just the world of food production are absolutely mind blowing. The machines we use for farming and how we change plants at the genetic level to suit us are some of the many examples. Granted those inventions can somewhat be debated they are still great examples of human s ability to problem solve. The part I am less hesitant to agree with is that there is no problem at all. I think eventually we will reach some sort of semi Malthusian catastrophe. Will it may not be exactly about food I think it s more likely going to be an issue of land. We only have so much space on this planet and I think it there is anything that could be used up it would be that. Also I am not blind to the fact the Simon did somewhat less then problems of species loss. We are definably losing more then one species a year. Granted when it comes to actual human survival that may not be an issues but when it comes down to the diversity of life I think that is a problem. Another issues is that while we can technical always come up for a solution for the growing need for more food, I think the cost of that is health. Some of the things we are making and doing to feed the world are not going to always allow for a health existence. Overall, I would say I definitely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It reviews the elements of design and principles practiced in the artwork. This essay assesses the correct use of the elements and the influence that they have on the entire perception of the painting. The artist has applied an amazing background as well as perfect balance of the piece. The elder sister s arm balances with her leg, the baby s foot balances with older sisters foot, the clouds balance with the bushes. This explains the initial acclaim of this painting. Upon viewing the picture one gets a feeling that the artist meant to depict a young girl who is captivated by her little sibling. This is clear from the use of the angelic almost celestial background that unquestionably creates an affectionate mood. The enchanting smile across the young girl s face communicates the elder sisters bliss. The painterhas accomplished quite a bit with the use of the fundamentals in this painting. The heavenly portrayal of the background and foreground shows a flawless use of space. The distance between the foreground and background was well selected for this piece. This is die to the fact that the two children are not close enough to exaggerate the way they look but they are also not too far away. The distance covered in the background communicates a message of clarity and relaxation that is evident in the children s faces. • 31. Franz Kafka Allusion Gregor or God? Comparing God to a vile vermin who is meant to repulse us can be offensive to many and is a task that is not lightly done. In Kafka s Metamorphosis, it is hard to believe any allusion to the bible because of Kafka s religion is Judaism. However, we see many different symbolism in the story that represent different aspects of the Bible and most importantly we realize Gregor can be a reflection of Jesus Christ himself. Franz Kafka used his ability as a writer to manifest an idea that Gregor could have been an allusion to the savior, Jesus Christ, mainly by providing equivalent scenarios found in the Bible. First of all, Jesus Christ was a caring man to ungrateful, difficult people, and this unvarying conflict is endured in Metamorphosis. God, his father, brought down Jesus to care and cure diseases of these unbelieving and malicious people. Yet, above everything else Jesus Christ loved and cared for the people on earth; despite this fact, Jesus Christ felt persecuted, He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent ... • 33. Erickson Reflection This week we learned about Erickson and his theory on development. Erikson studied under the Freud method, but unlike Freud, Erikson actually did research on infants and children as they were developing. I really enjoyed learning about Erikson considering I have a 5 month old at home growing away. It was interesting to compare these videos to where my baby was in development. Another interesting thing about this module was the James Marcia Identity Status which consists of 4 parts foreclosure, achievement, diffusion, and moratorium. Diffusion is when you have not really made a commitment to anything yet. This is typically a high school junior/senior or even college freshman/sophomore. They have not yet figured out what they want to do with life yet and honestly, aren t too worried about. In my diffusion score I received a 5 meaning I guess I am in the middle. I m not too sure if I agree with this accusation or not, but maybe that is why I scored this number. Although I had my career path figured out and I was on the path to it up until a few months ago I feel as though I have started testing the waters in other areas now. These areas are still very close to what my original plan was. Now that I have a family I am focused more now than ever to pick the perfect career for not just me, but my family. He synthesized early modern rationalism and empiricism, set the terms for much of the nineteenth and twentieth century philosophy, and continues to exercise a significant influence today in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, and other fields. Kant was involved in the crisis of the enlightenment. Enlightenment is about thinking for oneself rather than letting others think for you. Virtue based ethics, as it is called, is more focused on things like character, motives, and true happiness rather than on whether specific actions are right or wrong. Taking the temperature of boiling water changed my life. It wasn t until eight years after participating in a simple, yet elegant, marine science lab experiment that I realized its full impact on me. It had infiltrated my life so quietly that the effect had gone completely unnoticed. At least consciously. Unconsciously, as I look back, there were loads of little signs that something was different after that lab class: my thinking became more focused, I was able to anticipate questions and challenges to what I read and wrote, I entertained a variety of perspectives on issues I thought about and discussed without having to be prompted to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Did the other groups? Did we all have the same equipment? Had it been calibrated so that everyone started with the same baseline? What about the water itself? Did it all come from the same source? What else could possibly influence the outcome of this experiment? Another hour passed quickly as we discussed hundreds of possibilities for the variations in our recorded results. At the end of our lab session, we were assigned our first 10 page lab report for the term. Ten pages on taking the temperature of boiling water!? How would we manage to get ten pages out of this simple assignment? It turns out that ten pages was conservative. Our lab reports would follow the scientific method: We d state our hypothesis and the assumptions we had before conducting the experiment; we d list and describe the procedures followed, step by step, including a list of the equipment and other materials used; we d discuss the collection of data and provide detailed notes of the recordings; and finally, draw some conclusions about the findings. When all was said and done, each of us turned in a ten or more page report that had opened our eyes to the importance of replication of experiments, and to standardization in procedures and equipment to minimize experimental error. Pip is generally good natured and thoughtful, and very imaginative. His false values, which are bolstered by his love of Estella, decrease the amount of respect that he has for Joe. His alienation from Joe and Joe s values builds through the second part of the novel, as Pip becomes selfish, greedy, and foolish. • 44. Patient Safety Is Vital For The Practice Of Medicine Patient safety is vital in the practice of medicine. In medical laboratory science, we may not have a direct contact with the patient, but every duty we perform can affect the outcome of the patient s health. Patient safety involves being able to collect samples and follow the protocols for the test result. Accuracy in medicinemay be a very high standard, but it is worth it when it comes to a patient s life. A medical practitioner should always have the expectation not to incur more harm on the patient. A patient comes to the hospital for a solution to their problem and should not go back home with more problems. Patient safety includes interpreting results accurately, doing the right test and following protocols. The protocol for testing may be long to read, difficult to follow when you have a large workload but vital in medicine. A medical laboratory scientist should always have the code of ethics at heart to perform an error free lab test on a patient. Shortcuts may look easy, but the result poses damage to the patient. The moment you made up your mind to be a laboratory practitioner was the when you decided to take responsibility of caring and ensured error free for your patient. The For A Good Risk Management Plan Alcohol and rock concerts often intersected over the course of time; plenty of concerts and festivals have either used alcohol as a sponsor or ancillary revenue. Alcohol and other types of concessions sold at festivals are considered ancillary revenue because it is derived from goods or services other than the primary service or good being offered (What is ancillary revenue, 2015, para.1). It is vital in any democratic country to allow a vote from the people to elect their representative leaders, especially in an influential country like the United States. However, due to the process of the electoral college system placed by the Framers, a candidate may win the popular vote but lose the electoral vote. Such an event may upset certain members of our country as recently seen in our latest presidential electionof 2016 where candidate Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote to candidate Donald Trump. Using the 2016 presidential election as an example, we can see how the Electoral College can allow a candidate to take the winner take all system towards the presidency. Another example of how a candidate can win the election by winning the electoral vote and not the popular vote can be seen in the presidential election of 2000, where candidate George W. Bush lost the popular vote to candidate Al Gore but won the electoral vote, drawing criticism to the Electoral College, with some saying that it has outlived the purpose for which it was created (Duquette, 2017). In this winner take all system, more attention is focused towards electoral districts rather than a national platform. The theory that humans burning fossil fuels causes global warming isn t completely based on fact. Single celled marine organisms that live at the bottom of Earth s oceans gain nutrients from windblown dust that is captured by surface plankton who sink down to the bottom of the Southern Ocean when they die, providing nutrients to these organisms. When nourished, these organisms give off high levels of carbon dioxide into the water, which rise to the surface and mix with the atmosphere causing fluctuations in carbon dioxide levels. Changes in the atmospheric interaction with the chemicals of these organisms vary highly when transitioning from interglacial to glacial periods, and can have rapid impacts on climate at particularly low levels of windblown dust in the oceans. More research is being conducted to find the impact of these microorganisms on the climate, but it is believed that they have caused rapid changes to Earth s climate in the past. Finally, another factor to why global warming is most likely not human caused, is that temperature measurement is relatively new. By granting himself the title of sole creator of human life, Victor strips females of their primary role in the reproduction process a role which females have historically derived cultural power from. In his pursuit to create life that owes its existence entirely to himself, Victor also endeavors to steal this cultural power from females by eliminating its source. In the paper I will talk about the person Joseph Stalin was and, what he did during the war, how he affected the war, his later years in the war. Joseph Stalin was born in Djugashvili in the middle of December in 1878. Not much is known about his younger years as a child. He was an only child and it is said that he grew up in a very poor house hold. Stalin s remorseless attitude can be credited to his father actions since he was beaten as a child. Due to this Stalin dedicated his life to his studies which in turn lead to him getting a scholarship. He then used this scholarship at a catholic school in hopes of becoming a priest. While studying to become, a priest he also began indulging in the readings of Karl Marx. This influenced him to practice Marxism and got him kicked out of school for it. In Stalin s earlier years he started out as a political agitator, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. When I Have Fears, by John Keats and Holy Sonnet 1, by... Mortality is a moving and compelling subject. This end is a confirmation of one s humanity and the end of one s substance. Perhaps that is why so many writers and poets muse about their own death in their writings. Keats and John Donne are two such examples of musing poets who share the human condition experience in When I Have Fears and Holy Sonnet1. Keats begins each quatrain of the Shakespearean sonnet with a modifier, and each modifier indexes the subject of that quatrain. The modifier therefore gives his sonnet a three part structure. The first quatrain is what he fears; the second quatrain is what he beholds; the third quatrain is what he feels; and the ending couplet sums up all of the quatrains. However, the structure could ... He also recognizes the fickleness of it who is to say someone else will be his addressed the next hour? He continues to suggest that the addressed has some sort of deceptive and illusory faery power that creates an unreflecting love. Deception and illusion typically are detrimental for those who experience it. Keats does not reflect on losing the chance for love as something terribly unhappy, for he has a pre existing negative perception of love. Love is also unreflecting, so love won t be reciprocated. Keats then ends the segment about love half a line earlier in this quatrain than all other quatrains. Keats introduces the summation of the poem early, in the second part of the last line in quatrain four. This choice reflects how great his impending death weighs on his mind. In the final couplet, Keats s dark views of love leave him to stand alone and not experience the love mentioned in the previous quatrain. Of course, alone might not necessarily mean devoid of love; he could mean that he s alone because of his hopeless thoughts on the subject. Or he could mean he is alone because he does not have the emblems Love and Fame. Wide world dwarfs him, making it even sadder that in spite of all the vast opportunities he has had with different cultures, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Social Security System Is The Most Successful... The Social Security system is perhaps the most successful government social insurance program in the nation s history; and began with the Social Security Act in 1935. Social Security is a needed federal system that encourages income stability to millions of people across the United States. This is accomplished by giving a stable flow of income to replenish lost wages that occur as a result of disability, retirement, or death of a family member. There are about 59 million people in the U.S. that receive Social Security. Most of them are the required 65 years of age or older. Sadly about half of the 59 million people rely solely on Social Security to pay their bills and everyday necessities. Social Security is more beneficial to the larger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the average MPC out of Social Security increases, the larger impact on the economy it will have due to that income being circulated through the economy. Typically, those who have lower income will be more likely to spend more of their income than higher income households. Also, we see that generally those who receive Social Security to in fact have a lower income, and that money is a large portion of that income. This will then lead them to have a higher than average MPC. These lower income households will likely spend the income from Social Security on the daily necessities, which impacts a different segment of the economy rather than if it was spent on luxury or travel. Age is also a factor in Social Security as well as how it affects an individual s MPC. Those who are older and have reached the point in time where they more likely to spend their assets rather than save, usually have a higher MPC than the public. This is where we can see that altering MPCs for the age of Social Security beneficiaries, as well as their income, would have an increased effect on the economy regarding Social Security payouts (Koenig, G. AARP., Myles, A. Mississippi State University, 2013) Currently, President Obama has chosen that Social Security restructuring should be handled in the context of total federal budget and the problem of deficits and debt. In 2010, he created the new commission called the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Effects Of Environmental Hormones On Public Health And... Environmental Hormone Mimics: Their Effects on Public Health and the Environment Cassandra Kaur Sheanh California State University, Fresno Abstract This paper explores three published articles that reflect the findings from studies conducted to examine the relationships between environmental hormone mimics (endocrine disruptors) and their effect on the human body. This paper specifically discusses three key environmental hormone mimics: bisphenol A, dioxins, and pesticides. Each of the three studies links the chosen environmental hormone mimic to abnormalities caused by exposure to the chemicals. Bisphenol A is linked directly to altering estrogen levels in women. The consequences are carried onto the child if the carrying mother ingests BPA while pregnant. Dioxins are extremely harmful and cannot be disposed of easily despite the amount of land, money, and clean up efforts that are taken. Pesticides simply from working in fields or by eating fruits and vegetables are very harmful in men. A male s reproductive system is directly impaired as sperm counts drop dramatically and abnormalities effecting sperm size and shape occur. Environmental Hormone Mimics and Their Effects on Public Health and the Environment The National Institute of Environmental Health Services defines environmental hormone mimics as a generic term for chemical substances, termed endocrine disruptors, that enter the body and mimic hormones thus disrupting the ...
