The Glorious Revolution took place in England in 1688. Key figures included King James II, who was Catholic and wanted to promote Catholics, William III and Mary II, James II's Protestant daughter who he married to William of Orange. Due to James II promoting Catholics and the birth of a son who could succeed him, threatening England's Protestant religion, William of Orange invaded with support from nobles. James II fled to France. In his place, Parliament invited William and Mary to become the new monarchs, establishing a constitutional monarchy through the Bill of Rights.
