This document provides information about 11 different New Zealand birds: duck, tui, pukeko, takehe, kea, kaka, kakapo, black robin, fantail, bell bird, and kiwi. It describes some of their key characteristics such as physical features, behaviors, habitats, and diet. Some birds can fly but others are flightless. 3. -Ducks can fly but some ducks cant fly very well.
-Ducks can be all different colours but most ducks like the
ones at the gardens there brown

4. The tui
- Tui’s have 2 voice boxes.
- Tui’s have a nice call.
- Tui’s have blue and green feathers.

5. The pukeko
-Pukeko are cousins to the takehe.
-Pukeko are a very large bird.
-pukeko can fly but only small
distencess.

6. Takehe
-The takehe is cousins to the pukeko.
-The takehe is a flightless bird.
-people thoght of it to be extinct.

7. Kea
-The kea were voted nz smartest bird.
-kea’s are a parrot.
- A kea’s beak is strong enough to
wreck a car.

8. kaka
- Kaka have a brush tongue to take nectar from flowers.
- Kaka use there beak as a third leg it helps them to climb
trees.
- Kaka like eating all kinds of berrys and seeds

9. kakapo
-the kakapo is the heaviest parrot in the world.
-The kakapo is flightless.
-It is the only parrot that has a lek breeding system.

10. Black robin
-The black robin is a small bird.
-the black robin is black and has long,thin,dark legs.
-females often lay 2 eggs but if a clutch then they often re-
lay

11. fantail
-there are about 10 speices of fantails three of them live in
new zealand
-the three names of the fantails that live in new zealand
are the north island fantail,the south island fantail and the
chatham islands fantail.

12. Bell bird
-bell birds make a speical bell noise.
-most bell birds are green.

13. Kiwi
-The kiwi has very strong legs for burrowing and pulling
apart rotten logs.
-kiwis like very dark places.
-kiwis are nocturnal.
