This is a presentation about the "bath salts" synthetic cathinone drugs of abuse given as part of an upper-level undergraduate psychology course at Temple University titled "Investigation of Addiction Disorders". I was invited to give this presentation by the course director, Dr. Rani Vasudeva. This class involved both an introductory and final discussion with questions listed in the second and final slide, which was both lively and enjoyable to be a part of. Photosensitivity

Common soaps are sodium stearate, sodium palmitate, etc. Soap works by breaking the bonds between dirt/oil and the surface they are attached to. Their molecules have hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions which allow them to dissolve in water and remove non-water soluble dirt/oil from surfaces and skin.

1. Pharmacology is the study of drugs and their interaction with biological systems. It has two main divisions: pharmacokinetics, which is what the body does to the drug, and pharmacodynamics, which is what the drug does to the body.
2. Therapeutic index refers to the margin of safety of a drug, calculated as the ratio of lethal dose to effective dose. A higher therapeutic index indicates a drug is safer.

While medication and cognitive behavioral therapy are both empirically supported treatments for depression, CBT has been shown to have advantages over medication in long-term outcomes, with lower relapse rates in the 1-6 year range following treatment. Additionally, CBT has lower dropout rates compared to medication treatment and does not carry the risk of side effects that many antidepressant medications do. However, in reality, most depressed individuals in the U.S. receive either no treatment or medication treatment alone.
