Itik-Itik
Itik-Itik – is a lively Visayan folk dance
which originated from a dance called
Sibay, a dance which imitates the
movements of birds.
• The Itik-Itik dance traces its origin in
Carmen, a place in the town of Lanuza in
Surigao province.
• A young lady then named Kanang (which
is a nickname for Cayetana) was asked
to dance the Sibay during a baptismal
party. Kanang was a well-known singer
and dancer during a baptismal party.
Costume: Girls wear patadyong or balintawak
(dress with bell-shaped sleeves and a short
and simple skirt) style costume while the
boys wear barong Tagolog or camisa de chino
and white trousers.
Formation: If performed by a number of
pairs, couples are scattered around the
dancing area. Partners stand about six
feet apart, girl at right side of her
partner when facing audience or facing
front. One to any number of pairs may
take part in this dance.
