3. What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous,
convenient, on-demand network access to a shared
pool of configurable computing resources (e.g.,
networks, servers, storage, applications, and
services) that can be rapidly provisioned and
released with minimal management effort or service
provider interaction.

Providing ICT resources, as a service, in a dynamic,
and scalable manner over a network
Fundamental characteristics
6. In plain english …
Cloud computing is a technology that uses the
internet and central remote servers to maintain data
and applications. It provides on demand resources
and services over the internet with the power of
scalability and reliability.
In simple terms, when you are using cloud computing,
you don't need to install the required application on
your system. Instead, you use the application that
runs on a remote location/datacentre which we called
the 'Cloud'.
You just login, customize and start using it.
9. What it can mean for you …
• You don't have to worry about buying
anything
• You pay for what you use
• You aren't on the hook to operate it
10. Cloud benefits
Cost savings - Little to no upfront costs and pay for
what you use.
Agility - Rapid deployment, scalability up or down
Focus – ICT work can be focused on strategic
initiatives
Convenience – Anytime, anywhere, any device
