Charles of Bourbon was the King of Naples and Sicily from 1734 to 1759, and later King of Spain until 1788. He transformed Southern Italy into an autonomous kingdom and sought to elevate Naples as an important European capital by ordering the construction of grand royal palaces in Caserta, Capodimonte, Naples, and Portici. A series of events will take place in April and May at the Royal Palace of Caserta to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Charles of Bourbon's birth, focusing on his importance to Southern Italian history, cultural heritage, and the development of the region.
