Turtles all the Way Up – From OSGi bundles to Fog Computing - Tim Ward (Paremus)mfrancis
OSGi Community Event 2018 Presentation by Tim Ward (Paremus)
Abstract: The model of centralized cloud compute is changing. As large-scale IoT deployments have started to become real organizations are realizing that a single central cloud can’t cope with the data security, data volumes, latency or robustness that they need for their businesses. Centralizing in a single cloud also offers a huge operational risk – if the cloud fails, their business must continue!
This talk will introduce BRAIN-IoT, an EU Horizon 2020 funded project. BRAIN-IoT uses the latest OSGi R7 specifications to create an adaptive modular “Fog” environment with decentralized data processing and decision making. We’ll review the current design decisions made by the BRAIN-IoT team, including the issues concerning generic Edge Device discovery & integration, and see how they can be applied across different IoT use cases, including Smart Utilities and Industry 4.0 Factories of the Future.

Mobile devices like smartphones and tablet computers became an integral part of our modern world and single-board computers like Raspberry Pi are cheaper today than at any time before. Simple and open Machine-to-Machine (M2M) protocols like MQTT enable these devices to communicate in an efficient manner, even in scenarios with unreliable and instable networks. This talk shows how different Java MQTT libraries can be utilized for professional and personal projects to build efficient and scalable solutions for (mobile) devices. You will also see how modern technologies like WebSocket can be used in conjunction with MQTT to build real time-push services to bring data from sensor hardware to browsers in a scalable manner.
Using Eclipse and Lua for the Internet of Things with Eclipse Koneki, Mihini ...Benjamin Cabé
The Internet of Things (IoT) or Machine to Machine (M2M), is a technological field that will radically change the global network by enabling the communication of virtually every single object with each other. Studies state that more than 50 billions objects may be connected to the Internet by 2020. In a near future, everything from a light bulb to a power plant, from a pacemaker to an hospital, from a car to a road network will be part of the Internet.
While this revolution is already happening (your house or your car may be "connected" already!), there are still lots of barriers to its growth, especially since existing solutions are almost always proprietary, and cannot interoperate easily.
There are several very active M2M initiatives at Eclipse aiming at lowering these barriers, all under the umbrella of the M2M Industry Working Group. Last year, projects Paho (communication protocols for M2M) and Koneki (tools for M2M developers, in particular a complete IDE for Lua development) were created, and in July 2012 project Mihini was proposed to establish Lua as a reference platform for building M2M and IoT solutions.
The purpose of this talk is to give you a clear understanding of the afore mentioned Eclipse projects, as well as to show you that real M2M solutions can already be developed thanks to them. We will briefly introduce the Lua programming language, explain why it is a good fit for embedded M2M development, and then demonstrate the development of an actual working solution making use of the Mihini framework, a Paho MQTT client, and the Koneki tooling. The use case will also leverage Open Hardware such as Arduino and a RaspberryPi, therefore you can expect nice demos!

Blasting Through the Clouds - Automating Cloud Foundry with Concourse CIFabian Keller
Cloud Foundry has an extremly high release velocity with new versions being available multiple times every week for a usual deployment. It is important for operators to deploy these releases in a timely manner in order to keep up with security patches and feature improvements. Commonly, there is not only one Cloud Foundry deployment to be kept up to date, but rather a couple of different stages that need to be upgraded in a specific order, for example from a sandbox to a development to a production environment.
Automation is key to keep up to date with Cloud Foundry's release velocity and Concourse CI is the continuous thing-doer of choice to do this honorable task. In this talk we'll first get to know Concourse CI basics and then see how we can leverage Concourse to automate staged platform updates for Pivotal Cloud Foundry. With pcf-automation being sunsetted in favor of PCF Automation we'll have a look at how we can tailor upgrade pipelines to suit different needs all while keeping the thrust at high pace to blast through the clouds!

Kafka Summit 2021 - Why MQTT and Kafka are a match made in heavenDominik Obermaier
A fast and efficient integration of end device data into data processing systems is becoming increasingly important in the Internet of Things. Factors such as secure and reliable data transmission, real-time data processing and the analysis of huge amounts of data afterwards play a major role. In order to implement an architecture that enables smooth communication between end devices and systems, tools are needed that are designed for a type of communication that takes these factors into account.
This presentation shows the strengths and application areas of MQTT, the de-facto standard communication protocol for the Internet of Things, and Apache Kafka, which is often used for data streaming in the Internet of Things, and explains how and why the technologies complement each other ideally.

# Internet Security: Safeguarding Your Digital World
In the contemporary digital age, the internet is a cornerstone of our daily lives. It connects us to vast amounts of information, provides platforms for communication, enables commerce, and offers endless entertainment. However, with these conveniences come significant security challenges. Internet security is essential to protect our digital identities, sensitive data, and overall online experience. This comprehensive guide explores the multifaceted world of internet security, providing insights into its importance, common threats, and effective strategies to safeguard your digital world.
## Understanding Internet Security
Internet security encompasses the measures and protocols used to protect information, devices, and networks from unauthorized access, attacks, and damage. It involves a wide range of practices designed to safeguard data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Effective internet security is crucial for individuals, businesses, and governments alike, as cyber threats continue to evolve in complexity and scale.
### Key Components of Internet Security
1. **Confidentiality**: Ensuring that information is accessible only to those authorized to access it.
2. **Integrity**: Protecting information from being altered or tampered with by unauthorized parties.
3. **Availability**: Ensuring that authorized users have reliable access to information and resources when needed.
## Common Internet Security Threats
Cyber threats are numerous and constantly evolving. Understanding these threats is the first step in protecting against them. Some of the most common internet security threats include:
### Malware
Malware, or malicious software, is designed to harm, exploit, or otherwise compromise a device, network, or service. Common types of malware include:
- **Viruses**: Programs that attach themselves to legitimate software and replicate, spreading to other programs and files.
- **Worms**: Standalone malware that replicates itself to spread to other computers.
- **Trojan Horses**: Malicious software disguised as legitimate software.
- **Ransomware**: Malware that encrypts a user's files and demands a ransom for the decryption key.
- **Spyware**: Software that secretly monitors and collects user information.
### Phishing
Phishing is a social engineering attack that aims to steal sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details. Attackers often masquerade as trusted entities in email or other communication channels, tricking victims into providing their information.
### Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) Attacks
MitM attacks occur when an attacker intercepts and potentially alters communication between two parties without their knowledge. This can lead to the unauthorized acquisition of sensitive information.
### Denial-of-Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attacks
