1. ISB Essay Tips ISB 2011 Essay 1: If we were to admit one more student to the class of 2012, make a compelling argument as to why that student should be you? (300 words max) Essay Tip : This is same as the first essay last year. You have to market yourself to ISB and tell the adcom 3 traits that differentiate you and will help you add value to the class of 2012. e.g. Entrepreneurial venture and the experience you gained there, or business development skills etc. As ISB has mentioned, make sure that you quote some examples or numbers such as " I bought new business worth XXX" or "developed a venture with top line of XXXX". Make sure that you highlight something that is actually a differentiator. Working on client site for an IT services company for 2 months is not a great differentiator unless you have done something really different.
2. ISB Essay Tips ISB 2011 Essay 2: What are your short term and long term goals? How will the ISB help you achieve the same? (300 words max) Essay Tip : This is the standard career goals essay. So, in the first paragraph talk about your short term goals. In the next paragraph discuss your long term goals and future plan. Don't use more than 150-170 words in discussing you career goals. In the final paragraph talk about why MBA is important to achieve your goals and how will MBA from ISB help you. To do this create a story line and fit in MBA. Also, do some research about ISB programs, clubs, faculty, industry interaction and mention how these will contribute to your learning.
3. ISB Essay Tips ISB 2011 Essay 3: Please provide additional information, that will significantly affect the consideration of your application to the ISB. (300 words max) Essay Tip : This used to be an optional essay every year but looks like this year ISB has ran short of essay questions. So this is mandatory. Biggest mistake which applicants commit is that they provide all sort of not so important information in this essay. Don't write something just to fill space. Mention something important or a big achievement like receiving an award from the PM or selling a successful venture or something else. Also, don't use this essay to discuss your low GPA or GMAT score as that will make your weakness/ low points look bigger.
4. ISB Essay Tips Scholarship Essay Essay Tip : ISB scholarship is totally need based. So, you have to make a strong case for financial support which should sound genuine. At the same time focus on telling how taking you into the class of 2012 will be beneficial for the class and this scholarship will make your decision to join easy. Reapplicant essay : How has your profile changed from the time you last applied to the ISB? (300 words max) Essay Tip : To answer this, actually list down what you have done since your last application. Think about your new responsibilities, promotion, some business venture that you might have started or some opportunities abroad. Then select 3-4 most important and the strongest additions. If you received a feedback from ISB for rejection last time and you have improved in that area then talk about that. But make sure that after the adcom reads this essay they should get a feeling that this applicant has really improved his/her profile and should be given an interview call. They should not get a feeling of marginal improvement. This is the most important essay for reapplicants.
