Isaac Newton was an influential English physicist and mathematician in the 17th century. He published Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica in 1687, which laid the foundations for classical mechanics by formulating the laws of motion and universal gravitation. Newton removed doubts about the heliocentric solar system model and demonstrated that celestial and terrestrial motion could be described by the same principles. In addition to his scientific work, Newton made important contributions to mathematics, optics, and currency production as the Master of the Royal Mint.
