Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are adult cells that have been genetically reprogrammed to an embryonic stem cell-like state. iPSCs have the potential to be used to generate cells and tissues for medical therapies without the ethical issues associated with embryonic stem cells. While promising, iPSCs still face obstacles like the risk of forming tumors that must be addressed before they can be used to treat diseases and conditions.
