The National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 establishes the NSTP for tertiary students as a way to enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness. The NSTP has three components: Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), Literacy Training Service (LTS), and Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS). All incoming freshmen in baccalaureate or two-year technical or associate degree programs must complete one NSTP component as a graduation requirement. Each component involves 54-90 training hours per semester for two semesters.
