• Gross anatomy is subdivided into surface anatomy (the
external body), regional anatomy (specific regions of
the body), and
• systemic anatomy (specific organ systems).
• Microscopic anatomy is subdivided into cytology (the
study of cells) and histology (the study of tissues).
