Introduction to Fashion

My first idea was to
create an origami
flower, using a white
cartridge paper, and
made the stem out
of crepe paper. I
then used pink and
purple highlighters
to create a pop of
colour and visualise
focal point for the
design.
For my second idea, a pop-up
flower came to mind. This was an
idea I was considering for my
passport-making as well,
however, at the end, I didn’t use it.
So I though that this was a great
opportunity to project the idea
into a sculpture as a response to
Marumiyan.
For my third idea, I was inspired by the 2D image of the flowers in Marumiyan’s works, which resembled a heart shape. So I
have created a 3D effect by sticking in 4 pieces of similar heart shapes. This was also inspired by my art projects in primary
school, which I created forValentine’s day. I have learned that as a creative person, you might need to reuse, recycle and
improve ideas from back when you were a child. In fashion, everything should inspire you, because fashion is wearable art.
Since Marumiyan is a Japanese contemporary artist, I was inspired by his culture and incorporated Japanese-styled fans
and created a sharp and crisp sided flowers. Japanese paper fans often are folded to make it convenient and travel-sized.
This idea can also be interpreted similar to that of a lotus flower, which are commonly used in Asian symbolism.
Since my other ideas already has vibrant pop of
colours, I thought that maybe using two simple
colours would compliment the others. So I used a
neon coral pink paper and white cartridge paper in
order to create this ribbon, which is inspired by
decors for presents. This is because Marumiyan’s
works tend to create an element of surprise, in
which I established into this idea.
We were then asked to create a large-scale
sculpture of one of our smaller samples.
Here’s what happened.
Designing with Paper
(AfternoonActivities)
We were tasked to be group into 2-3 to create simple designs with our
samples, inspired by a word, a phrase or a song.
“ARCHITECTURE”
RHYTHMIC SONG
FLOWY RELAXING
MUSIC
NECK AND
SHOULDER PIECES
(?) SONG
“FLUID”
For our final one, we were asked to to go back to our own
pieces and create something based on a music. The rotation
really helped because it made us look at our samples
differently; thus is better than our very first design.
