In his talk, Mark will review past projects released “in the wild” and present insights into ongoing work of relevance focusing on determining the role technology plays in inspiring social innovation.

Meet the Media Guru is a project financed by public institutions in Milan, Italy that organizes seminars introducing international experts on new media and innovation to a large, diverse audience. The project aims to further discussion on emerging technologies and their impact. Since 2005, Meet the Media Guru has hosted over 16 seminars attended by hundreds of professionals, students, designers, artists and executives to discuss topics like social networking, interaction design, digital art, and sustainability.

What I have learned from studying Wikipedia bias
This document discusses biases and gaps on Wikipedia. It summarizes 3 myths about Wikipedia's biases: 1) it merely mirrors real-world biases, 2) bias comes only from inherently biased people, and 3) gaps can be filled by volunteers. However, the document argues that measuring content gaps does not address the systemic sources of bias and exclusionary practices on Wikipedia. Instead of just identifying gaps, research should examine the local contexts and practices that produce biases to better support inclusion efforts. The role of research should shift from gap measurement to understanding how to include marginalized groups left out of structures of power.
