Overview
                        Project Based Learning
• Essential Questions:
   – How can I use technology to support the management of my classroom?
   – How can I use technology to support learning in the classroom?
• Supporting Questions:
   – What does it mean to be an e-Teacher?
   – How can technology make my job as a teacher easier to accomplish?
   – What type of technology skills do I currently have?
   – How can I communicate with students? with parents or guardians?
   – How can I engage my students?
• Objectives
   – Students will develop a working knowledge of the role technology should
play in education; for classroom management, administration, and most of
      all teaching and learning.
Preparing for the Future
• What are your
  experiences in using
  technology in the
  classroom?
• How is it changing the
  way we teach and
  what we will teach in
  the future?
• What might the future
  look like?
Technology Enhanced
                Project Based Lesson

• Jumping right in…
  – What does it look like?
  – Play movie
Research Says…
• Results from a High School Survey of Student
  Engagement might report the following:
   – 2/3 of high school students report feeling bored in one
     or more classes every day
   – ½ of high school student spend less than 4 hours a
     week on homework
   – Over ½ of HSS state they do not discuss academic
     material outside of class
   – 30% of students do not graduate

Specifics may change from study to study but the
overall message is always the same.
Where does technology
                   come into play?
• Technology fosters critical and creative
  thinking
  – Writing and design programs
  – Online information research and retrieval
  – Applications, tools, games, etc.
• Technology supports memorization (when it is
  appropriate)
  – Electronic worksheets
  – Drill and practice
  – Online tutoring programs
Project Based Learning
• What does it do?
  – Allows for the investigation of problems or questions
    causing students to engage in:
     • Problem solving
     • Decision making
     • Designing
  – Students work together on challenging questions or
problems that apply to their lives or what they do
  – Students learn to: assess, analyze, create, reflect,
    and act
Begin to Focus On…
• Developing learning
  activities
  – that are long term
  – cross-curricular
  – provide a deeper
    engagement with content
  – make the use of technology
    seamless, spontaneous and
    part of an average day
The HOW

• How do I create project based learning
  projects?
  – Activities are organized around driving questions
     • Creates a need to know essential content and skills
     • Requires inquiry to learn and/or create something new
     • Allows the students to make choices
     • Incorporates feedback and revisions
     • Results in publicly presented product or performance
Day 1 – Class Activity
                    Lets begin by pointing out
                    examples from the video.
• How did you see projects
  being implemented in the
  video?
• What types of strategies were
  the teachers using?
• What types of technology did
you see? How were they being
used? OK the video was about a group of young children,
how might it change in the higher grades,
                      middle school and high school?
