Strata Conference talk on how Data Science brings IoT to life through predictive modeling.
The Internet of Things (IoT) will forever change the way businesses interact with each other and their customers. In 2020, 25 billion connected “things” will be in use, reports Gartner. IDC predictions are even higher as analysts estimate IoT will grow from 15 billion devices in 2015 to 30 billion devices in 2020.
With the adoption of these devices, effective leveraging of the torrent of data will be critical to driving the transformation of industries. Central to the fundamental shift will be the ability to pool data, and build models that drive real and significant actions.
From smart sensors to connected hospitals, Sarah will use illustrative use cases to demonstrate the fundamental concepts required to drive true impact from these connected devices. She will cover which models are most appropriate for a variety of actions and outcomes, what considerations around data access and processing are critical, and which tools are available to accomplish your task at hand.

Software has been the domain of information technology, but it is quickly becoming key to operations technology as well. Operating smart, networked machines from wind turbines to jet engines requires an intricate understanding of both the machines and the data and information that flows through them. The combination of these two disciplines is bringing new efficiencies and capabilities that do more—faster and cheaper. The key is leveraging connectivity, data, and mobility to optimize efficiency and deliver new services to customers. Join Hima Mukkamala of GE Digital to hear how software technology can help companies bridge the divide between IT and OT and how IT can help industrial companies build, deploy, and manage Industrial Internet applications that bring game-changing efficiencies to businesses.

Predictive Analytics and the Industrial Internet of Manufacturing Things as presented at the IoT Inc Business' eighteenth Meetup. See: http://www.iot-inc.com/predictive-analytics-and-the-industrial-internet-of-manufacturing-things-meetup/
In our eighteenth Meetup we have William Sobel, Chief Strategy Officer at System Insights and Chief Architect/Chair TSC at MTConnect Institute presenting “Predictive Analytics and the Industrial Internet of Manufacturing Things”.
Presentation Abstract
The Industrial Internet of Things has been hyped to take manufacturing into a new era; the German Industrie 4.0 initiative, NNMI in the US and 2025 goals in China are all aligned on the target of agile and smart manufacturing. Our current manufacturing systems have not changed much in the last 20 years and we are still using paper and pencil in many of our processes. There are many advanced technologies we can bring to bear today to help us along that path, but we still need to build the foundations to enable these advancements. Manufacturing requires special consideration for an IIOT system; an approach that does not take into consideration the context of the manufacturing process will not be able to transform the data from the equipment and sensors into actionable information. The solution is to build a standards based interoperable platform that allows services to fuse semantic data from multiple sources to provide the foundation for accelerated innovation in smart manufacturing. Will Sobel will discuss how this is a model for the new product and services to come and how this will enable outcome and intent based self-aware manufacturing systems.

It enables an Organization to make smart data-driven decisions based on Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Industry 4.0 IIoT has several benefits such as Resource Optimization, Cost Reduction, Automation, Predictive Maintenance and Prescriptive Analytics and Control etc.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
State of ICS and IoT Cyber Threat Landscape Report 2024 previewPrayukth K V
The IoT and OT threat landscape report has been prepared by the Threat Research Team at Sectrio using data from Sectrio, cyber threat intelligence farming facilities spread across over 85 cities around the world. In addition, Sectrio also runs AI-based advanced threat and payload engagement facilities that serve as sinks to attract and engage sophisticated threat actors, and newer malware including new variants and latent threats that are at an earlier stage of development.
The latest edition of the OT/ICS and IoT security Threat Landscape Report 2024 also covers:
State of global ICS asset and network exposure
Sectoral targets and attacks as well as the cost of ransom
Global APT activity, AI usage, actor and tactic profiles, and implications
Rise in volumes of AI-powered cyberattacks
Major cyber events in 2024
Malware and malicious payload trends
Cyberattack types and targets
Vulnerability exploit attempts on CVEs
Attacks on counties – USA
Expansion of bot farms – how, where, and why
In-depth analysis of the cyber threat landscape across North America, South America, Europe, APAC, and the Middle East

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
