Creative Writing: Rejection
Rejection. It's always hard to handle because it's basically the other person saying you aren't good
enough. It always hurts and discourages the next time round because you will always think will she
say yes? Will she say no? Will I get this job? Will they accept my request? You avoid asking people
questions because there will always be that fear of rejection. But then there's the opposite of it,
acceptance. What happens if they do say yes, they tell you you've got the job or they tell you that the
request was a good one? You never know until you ask and you always question yourself of what
you could have done better if you do get rejected. Do you take the leap of faith or just continue with
the same old stuff? Who knows but while I'm thinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I didn't want to live anymore. It was embarrassing and I don't ever want to do it again. I wish that
maybe she had of said yes for my money but she said no because of our friendship. I just wanted to
be alone. What was wrong with me? I know I am not amazingly handsome but I was decent looking.
Why didn't she like me like I liked her? Why had she given me signals if she didn't want to go out
with me? Why had she said no? Looking over at the cliff I know that I could but I shouldn't. It was
so tempting to just end the embarrassment and pain of being rejected. I knew I shouldn't but the
rejection was truly horrible. The ground was just so far away. Would it just be easier to grab a gun
and shoot myself? Yes it may be but death wasn't a solution. I could get over this and I knew I could
but this would be hard. Making my way home slowly would give me time to think and clear my
head. Gone. She was gone and there were police surrounding the place we had met hours ago. There
was a body lying there. Who? Who did it belong to? What had happened? Are they still

Annie Hall and Jesus Essay
Annie Hall (1977), from director/actor/co–writer Woody Allen, is a compelling masterpiece of
priceless, witty and quotable one–liners within a matured, focused and thoughtful film. It is a
bittersweet romantic comedy of modern contemporary love and urban relationships that explores the
interaction of past and present, and the rise and fall of Alvy Singer's (Woody Allen) own
challenging, ambivalent New York romance with his opposite – an equally–insecure, shy, flighty
Midwestern WASP female: Annie Hall. (Diane Keaton)
The major theme of the film is that there are severe limitations in life (death and loss are the two
most prevalent), but that art forms (such as the printed word, films, and plays) have the power to
reshape reality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alvy searches for the cause of the failure of his relationship with an introspect examination of his
own life. His paranoia may have been caused by the fact that he lived under the roller coaster in
Coney Island, but he tends to over exaggerate his childhood memories. He constantly jokes about
his own appearance, personality and sex. He never really found a true cause for the failure of his
relationship. It is true however, that Annie changes through the film. She begins as a shy, uneducated
female, who (with the help of Alvy) learns to be more confident and finds new aims in life. Alvy
convinces her to take college courses, though Annie always insists that Alvy thinks she's "not smart
enough". Alvy never really truly finds a specific cause for the breakup, but realizes that Annie had
been an influence on his life. She made him think in sort of a different light, and her presence was
just a joy.
Although many people do not believe that this movie should have won the 1977 Oscar for Best
Picture (since it was competing against Star Wars), many critics say that the choice was obvious.
Annie Hall is famous not only for his humorous screenplay, but also for its wide variety of
cinematography. There are a variety of innovative strategies and narrative techniques in the film that
support the contention that Woody Allen is functioning as a self–conscious artist who evaluates his
entire life and uses the film medium to

My Personal Identity : The Story Of An Identity Crisis
Going into this project I was in a little bit of an Identity crisis myself. I was trying to find out where
I fit with my parent's hardships back in Ethiopia and as a first–generation student in America. I was
trying to figure out how this all ties together within the American society I live in. With the prompt
"some students have a background or identity that is so meaningful they believe their application
would be incomplete without it." I believed it was time for me to bring these questions out onto
paper. At the time I was in 10th grade in a summer course I honestly didn't want to be in. However,
because of that I definitely was not the only Rhetor for this paper. In fact, for most of my paper, I
spoke via the eyes of those other rhetors, My father was one of the first and most important rhetor in
my piece. Just hearing his story of being down on his luck all his life and finally getting the chance
to come to a place where he may have an opportunity, not for himself, but for his children was gut–
wrenching. It was the central piece of my paper both personally and narratively. The next biggest
rhetor in my paper was my mother. She always had her head peeking from the corner the entire
process. She continuously urged me to tell more about her and my father in my essay to a point
where my teacher began to worry that if I add any more about my parents I'll hit the word limit
without talking at all about myself. The final significant Rhetor in my essay was a long time family

My First Experience On The Zip Line In Las Vegas
I like to do adventurous things, and one of the things that I did was ziplining. I did it twice but in
two different locations. I had a fantastic time on both of these rides, both of them are reasonably
priced, and on each one I was scared, but that is where the similarities end. My first experience on a
zip line was in Ocean City, Maryland whereas the second time was in Las Vegas. The zip line in
Maryland was only 60 feet high; the one in Vegas was as tall as a skyscraper standing at 114 feet.
The zip line in Maryland was at an amusement park, has four landing stations and in total was about
1,000 feet. While I was up 60 feet in the air, I was able to see all of the rides around me. In Vegas,
the zip line was on the street and had a length

The Open Boat Symbolism
The struggle for survival can be found in many different settings. It can be seen in a hospital room,
nursing home, the battlefield or at sea like in " The Open Boat", written by Stephen Crane. In this
story four different men are on a lifeboat. The oiler represents the good working men, the
correspondent the observers, the cook represents the followers and the captain represents the
leaders. The Oiler named Billie, he is physically the strongest one on the boat and the only one we
know that name of. He keeps the men safe from the waves. The correspondent which is actually the
author himself, he is the one who asks the big questions. Always deep inside his own head. The
captain who mourns his ship, he is a strong guy but he is in charge so

Autonomous Cars : Tension Between Occupant Experience And...
The article "Autonomous Cars: The tension between occupant experience and intersection capacity",
by Le Vine, et al. is designed to help get a better understanding of the questions that are raised about
how effective the experience riding in an autopilot car can be for daily efficiency. It also examines
the effects that these cars have on road networks for traffic managers when designing how roads are
created. The majority of the article compares and contrast high speed trains and autonomous cars
through acceleration and comfort of the ride. The authors clearly made this article in depth by
including advanced level of word choice, statistics and charts. The authors start off the piece giving
a general overview of the issues and goes into more detail in later paragraphs about their questions.
Le Vine, et al. do not exactly state their opinion on the issues in the article but they make reference
to their opinions in one of the first sentences. "... increased road network capacity and the freeing up
of the driver – occupant's time to engage in their choice of leisurely or economically – productive
task" (pg. 1). They are taking a stance by inferring that people could be more productive during a
commute if they did not have to worry about driving. The authors seem to be targeting city planners
and prospective car buyers in the article. It goes on to explain, "There is also growing interest in the
impacts on road networks operations among transportation planners and road

The Open Boat Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft
This paper is about the story "The Open Boat" written by Stephen Crane. In this paper, I will try to
provide the similarities of the original story with the newspaper account. The differences in each
article will also be discussed. Lastly, I will provide a conclusion based on the facts of both articles.
"The Open Boat'' begins with a description of men aboard a small boat on a rough sea. These men
are all survivors of a shipwreck. There is the cook, overweight and sloppily dressed, who is trying to
remove water from the bottom of the boat. The oiler, a physically powerful man named Billie who is
rowing with one oar. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shares this thought with the other men, and the oiler smiles in sympathy. The men smoke cigars
drink their water and wait to be spotted by the lighthouse rescue crew, unwilling to run their boat
ashore in the rough waves. The lighthouse appears deserted. The men discuss rowing toward land
swimming through the surf once the boat finally capsizes in the rougher water that is closer to shore.
The crew knows that, over time, they will grow weaker and things will get worse, not better. They
exchange with each other "addresses and admonitions", in case all of them do not live through this
whole ordeal Later, someone is seen on the shore waving to them. A while later, a crowd gathers,
disembarking from a bus. Despite their efforts to let the people know on shore they were in distress,
they realize that the people on shore are tourists and that they think they are just simple fisherman.
Thoughts of drowning run rampant in every man's mind on that boat. At dawn, the men decided that
their only chance is to row toward the distant shore again and swim when the boat finally capsizes.
On the Captain's order, the oiler rows the boat directly toward the shore. The boat capsizes and the
people on the boat are so weak that it is hard for them to even keep their heads above water.
Suddenly, a man appears on shore stripping his clothes off and running into the water. The rescuer

Case Study Of The Myth Of The Paperless Office
Essay One
In Chapter 2 of The Myth of the Paperless Office, Sellen and Harper discuss two case studies of
paperless office – Dan Tech and UK Com.
(a) Describe the lessons learned from these two case studies. (300–500 words)
It is interesting to note that while the initial case study of DanTech was focused on its role as a
paperless office, the lessons learned were derived from how the implementation of change affected a
company. The main lesson learned from this case study is the importance of recognising that going
paperless was "a symbol of change rather than a cause of change". This frame of mind was the
crucial factor for allowing change to come about in a more natural way. Although not every change
implemented was successful, DanTech ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Open Boat By Stephen Crane
The Open Boat Analysis The Open Boat is a wildly creative text. The author explores fiction and
philosophy to achieve a balance of literature professionalism. The text is a masterpiece reality
expressed through the creation of characters representatives of society and day to day living.
Symbolic use of characters and human titles plays a key role in delivering the message of the author.
Stephen Crane, the author exploits the power of harmony to establish a relationship where every
individual is a unit within a literally functional setting. The author speaks about significant issues in
society; more so, about the events that have affected his life. According to Alison and Mays (247),
the characters in "The Open Boat" are vehicles designed to convey concepts about the society's
functionality. They facilitate thematic and plot development to reveal the place of man in society
and express nature as being apathetic to man. These ideological concepts are achieved by
understanding the elements of society as being mutually dependent. The Correspondent, The
Captain, Billie, and The Cook come up as the vital parts of the author`s chosen setting. This crew of
sailors is motivated by the desire to survive but lacks adequate knowledge of the geography of the
sea; they get through by ensuring that every individual is keen to do their part in the stressful
environment. The Captain is a symbol of leadership and struggles relentlessly to maintain his
position amongst the crew members. He

Something 's Got Ta Give
Something's Gotta Give Research Essay Something's Gotta Give is an award winning movie written
by Nancy Meyers. This romantic drama is greatly known for its middle–aged comedic relief because
it highlights the sexual encounters between an old bachelor and a cougar of a woman. The reviews
written by Roger Ebert, A.O. Scott and Christopher Orr are about the movie Something's Gotta Give
which will include an opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of how each review is written.
Roger Ebert's 2003 movie review of Something' Gotta Give was more informational than it was a
review. Ebert used a tone in his writing that would lead readers to believe more details are needed
about the characters and set to understand and form an opinion. Ebert made sure readers were aware
of the award winning cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, Amanda Pete
and Frances McDormand. Ebert observed while watching this film that he himself was moved by
the characters. Toward the end of his informational bit Ebert makes an observation that there is a
sexual mystery surrounding the situation between Erica played by Diane Keaton, Dr. Mercer played
by Keanu Reeves and the notorious Harry played by Jack Nicholson. With plenty of nudity to go
around Ebert suggests Nicholson might have contributed to the screenplay.
A review written for the New York Times by A.O. Scott in 2003 about the movie Something's Gotta
Give was described as a weep, and the world laughs hysterically movie.

Reflection Paper
Beginning to Understand Reviewing the idea of good fortune in one's life caused me to realize a lot
about how I want to live my life, and how I should impact others by living my life to its fullest
potential. Its opened me up more to the role of religion in my own life, causing me to realize what I
need to work on and how I need to not change. The vast majority of my life lies in front of me and
right here, right now, is where I need to focus and be present because I have been put on this earth
for a reason, but I am yet to figure out what that reason is. This is not something that worries me, but
rather inspires me because I will always know that I mean something and this sheds light into the
darkest of times. These three questions of who God is, why does one receive good fortune, and what
really is religion that have lingered about me for the vast majority of life have finally begun to
resonate with me. I do not fully understand what the role of religion in my life is right now, but I
feel that I do not need to understand what it is right now because I can already see myself growing
to make religion more prominent in my life. Now it is one thing to say that I am beginning to
understand how these questions are being evident in my life, but it is another thing to understand
how it is that I will change myself to become the fullest person that I can be. Because in my life I
have been one to say something, and more often than not have followed through with my word. So

The Heat Paper
Growing up my family would watch a lot of movies but one that stuck with me for a while was
watching my first rated R movie that was entitled HEAT by Michael Mann. The story takes us
through a journey through A group of professional bank robbers start to feel the heat from police
when they unknowingly leave a clue at their latest heist. (IMDB) In reading the script compared to
the movie I can spot many differences. I loved the movie but the script was better than the movie.
The first difference I spoted was is in the opening sequence of the film. The first scene starts out
with a massive structure in the foreground and Robert DeNiro's character arriving by train. His ...

In comparing the two depecctions of the story I would of liked to see the subtle decision to use the
paper bag and white intern coat. I think that this character choice would set up the movie much nicer
and show the audience that Robert Deniro's character is a mastermind that is very smooth in his
actions. While these are subtle decisions made by the director they are very important to the
progression of the story. In the movie, we appreciate Robert's character for his physical
characteristics. In the script, Robert is described in detail most notably his psychical and emotional
state. The script states "an ice–cold professional–very big, very tough. At 42, his short black hair is
graying". I think that the script did a better job of setting up the story more correctly. I would of
liked to see the script version because I think it is a more creative exposition to the film allowing the
viewed to become more invested in the characters.
The next scene were I noticed differences was the scene when Val Kilmer buys explosives under the
company name "Jack 's Demolition" when Val is at the counter he doesn 't engage in a conversation
with the clerk. This is what was shown in the movie version. In the script version however Val does
engage in small talk with the clerk–significantly he tells the clerk that he is "drillin ' some post holes
into concrete" This banter back and forth allows the person behind the counter to not get suspicious.

Character Analysis Of Buster Keaton's 'Sherlock Jr'
In Sherlock Jr, demonstrate a man which is a movie projectionist frustrated in love because the
object of his affections is attracted to a dishonest rival. Sherlock Jr is also an aspiring detective, and
when the girl's father's pocket watch disappears he tries to take charge of the situation. But the rival
contrives to make him look like the culprit. While projecting a show about two lovers and a similar
domestic crime, Sherlock experiences a bizarre daydream of "entering" the world of the movie.

certain things in the scene that makes it part of the plot; such as the ring and the reaction to it, the
framing, and acting. Buster Keaton uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the close–up; which appear in a second–minute shot, it goes back to the medium shot to have
the same scenery before the close–up. The close–up is interpreted when the director wants to have a
better vision for the audience to see the ring that Sherlock Jr gives to the girl. Thus, the audience
attentive the importance of the object to the main characters.
Further, he uses a close–up of the ring to show excitement and anxiety of the scene. As I mentioned,
the close–up of the scene is important because it's a demonstration of a better perspective of the ring.
The excitement in a way the girl wants to know what is inside the ring, and the feeling of wearing it.
The anxiety of being nervous at the same time.
In addition, the setting happens in the girl's house which is middle class. In my perspective, the
director chooses this setting to emphasize the events yet to come, and it is where the plot begins to
form. For example, its fashion, and the quality of the furniture made it seem to have the feeling of a
middle–class house. Thus, the setting of the house presents the major events of the film overall.
Keaton uses the actor's facial expressions, framing to build the excitement and anxiety of the scene.
He uses acting to express their facial expressions to demonstrate emotions by showing excitement
and disappointment while giving a ring, and anxiety in both characters. The close–up of the ring
illustrates a

Descriptive Essay About Art
Art is a form of expression that I could never abandon in my life. I became an artist at a young age,
and I can still remember the day art came into my life like angel sent straight from God. It was my
first time watching my Pops draw a portrait. It was around noon on Saturday in the summer because
the 'noon' heat was almost unearthly. However the vibe in our small two bedroom apartment was
absolutely groovy and cool. Pops was playing the oldies from the 70's. " Sweet love, my sweet love
you'll be crying out my name", I heard as the talented Anita Baker filled my home's walls with even
more soul! He was drawing a self portrait. The detail in the drawing was so hyper realistic. At the
time I did not know that it was a self portrait. I thought it was just a black man with his hands placed
both sides of his head as if inside he was going crazy inside. My pops hands moved so smoothly as
if each finger had a tiny brain in the tip where the pencil touched. I was around 8 years old at the
time. From that moment I knew I would want to be an artist, because that type of expression seemed
best for my dad. I always paid attention to the early teachings from the big guy. The cleanliness of
the lines that my dad had , it almost seemed as if he was a surgeon of the paper. He would start with
this blank piece paper and hours later it would become a piece of his life , and in some ways it
would become a major part of mine. Pops handed me a wooden number two pencil and a big piece

Annie's singing career begins to take off and she and Alvy travel to Hollywood. On the plane ride
back, Annie and Alvy split up again, agreeing that their relationship is a "dead shark." Annie moves
to L.A. and Alvy, still missing her, flies out to ask her to marry him. Annie declines. They meet once
more in New York, both dating other people now. The film flashes back to better times between the
couple and the film ends with parting words from Alvy. He concludes that relationships are
ridiculous, but worth going through "because most of us need the eggs" and the credits roll. Annie
Hall was produced by Charles H. Joffe, Woody Allen's manager and was distributed by United
Artists. The film's budget was $4 million and it grossed $38,251,425 in the box office. The movie
was developed by Woody Allen and his co–writer Marshall Brickman. The original concept was
about a man in his forties exploring his relationship with a young woman, "the concern about the
banality of life we all live," and about his own character. Allen wanted to abandon the safety net of a
solely comedic movie in order to explore deeper concepts and although Allen claims that the film is
not autobiographical, the commonalities between he and Alvy are obvious. Allen was also

Arauco: Forward Integration or Horizontal Expansion?

Arauco was formed through a merger between Industrias Arauco and Celulosa Constitución in 1979.

The second phase of the project includes constructing a pulp mill and will cost US$1 billion.
Today (2004) Pérez main problem is that he has to decide whether the company should go through a
horizontal expansion or a forward integration. In others words, if the company should continue with
the second phase of The Nueva Aldea project becoming the largest market pulp producer in the
world and having the possibility of foregoing other large projects in the next decade or to take
advantage of their low costs in pulp production by forward integrating into paper manufacturing.
Evaluation of the two alternatives:
As regards the horizontal expansion, there are several points that must be taken into account as they
demonstrate that this option will be the correct one: * This expansion will grow the company market
share because they have a cost advantage. * For a company is better and easier to grow in a sector
that they are presently functioning. * The market seems to be moving in favor. * As a result of a
horizontal expansion the company can achieve economies of scale and reduce significantly their
costs. * Pulp is Arauco´s main industrial activity, generating up 52% of EBITDA * Pulp production
is the core competency of Arauco. * Becoming the market leader will allow them to control supply
and demand of the market of pulp. * They have young forests. * Arauco is one of the world´s
premier forestry enterprises

My Values In My Life
Based on the path that my life has taken, I will say that I rarely have any meaningful items or people
that are important to me. A few things that have become important to me or have interest me in my
life are Devan and books. Spending time with Devan makes me feel comfortable and that I can be
myself instead of acting fake to be important like I have to be around other people. Devan realized
who I really was instead of who I was trying to act like. I have tried to enjoy playing sports to be
like everyone else, but I have always been more interested in books that I can get lost in. Reading
books makes me enjoy life and enjoy seeing how other people view the world even if the story is
written as fiction. When reading any story that interest me, I love to read on what the author's
thoughts were on how they came up with while writing the story. When I get a new book that
interest me, I will get lost in the way the story is told and will not realize what time or day it is. I
will never put the book down if i fall in love with the story that the author is telling. These two
things have become the most important things in my life and always will be because of the
enjoyment I get. As a student, I would expect that teachers be willing to help their students when
they are stuck on something and not just make the student feel like they are stupid for asking a
question. I feel like the teacher should treat each student the same way no matter who they are. I
expect the teacher to

The Relationship Between Buster Keaton And Charlie Chaplin
When identifying film connections, some relations are more pronounce than others. Visually, many
of Bitzer's techniques can be observed through the works of many artists after him. As a pioneering
cinematographer, Bitzer developed camera tactics of use that set the standards for all motion
pictures to come; such as, the use of last–minute rescues, editing to create mayhem in rapid editing
through speed, camera angles, pacing, and more alike. Most, if not all, of Bitzer's mechanisms can
be recognized through the works of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. Less prominent are the
interconnected relationships among Mack Sennett, the producer and director responsible for first
hiring Charlie Chaplin, and eventually directing Buster Keaton in The Timid Young Man in 1935,
following MGM film studio's creation. By way of this connection, Keaton and Chaplin supported
and progressed the initial breakthroughs and intuitive understandings identified by Mack Sennett
(Wexman, 2010, pg. 73).
In the genre of film comedy, emphasis on humor is designed to produce laughter and amusement
from the audience. Film comedy, to Keaton, was used as a method to demonstrate things that would
happen to him in the universe, but refashioning them into a comical form. Buster Keaton, who was
known for his pork pie hat and never smiling, was a touchstone for dramas and strongly believed in
creativity, inventiveness, the processes of forming opinions about life, and most importantly, timing.

Joseph Frank Keaton Iv Or As Everyone Had Called Him...
Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an American actor,
director, producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster Keaton was born on October 4,
1895 in Piqua, Kansas. Here's a little fun fact on why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV,
"Buster" Keaton. Legend has it that when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of
stairs and there was a famous magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his
name was Harry Houdini. After Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, "That was a real
buster!", and so that's how Keaton got his name and that will stick to him for his whole life. So,
Buster Keaton's parents Joe and Myra have been part of the actor/performer industry for several
years and just like his parents Buster would follow in their footsteps. Buster began performing at the
age of 3 and his first performance was a part of his parent's act. While working with his parents
throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some bruises here and there but he took pride in that
because he loved doing performances for the audience and in which they found it funny, so you can
say that he loved making people laugh. During these performances Keaton, would learn to display
the deadpan look that would later become a hallmark of his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided
to move to Hollywood because his father's drinking problem would get in the way of the
acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton

Evaluation Of The Paper By Edelen And Reeve
EVALUATION OF THE PAPER
Purposes
The original paper by Edelen and Reeve (2007) addresses the question that, in health outcomes
researches, response burden seems to be a problem for some researchers, and thus an effective way
to refine health outcomes instruments is necessary. The purposes of the paper are two–fold. First, the
paper provides a brief overview of the IRT principles and the critical issued associated with IRT
applications (pp. 5–8). Second, the paper extensively demonstrates the utility of IRT and related
analyses in refining questionnaire and selecting a shortened scale to reduce response burden when
measuring adolescence depression.
Methods Edelen and Reeve used handful psychometric techniques to assess the data and reduce the
form from 19–item to 10–item. They used CTT to reveal the basic statistics for the 19 items. Then,
they calculated the Cronbach 's alphas and the Fisher's z–transformed average interitem correlations
to elect a 3–category version of the scale to be analyzed. Moreover, they assessed the dimensionality
and local independence using EFA and CFA. For the major IRT analysis, the authors utilized the
GRM to estimate slope and step parameters, construct ICCs and IIFs, and evaluate fit at the item
level. In the end, they were able to select the short 10–item form.
The data Edelen and Reeve used came directly from AddHealth public use dataset and was
representative of US schools in a wide variety of aspects, like region of country, degree of

'Romantic comedy is undeserving of its reputation for being 'un–feminist', since it holds a critical
light up to romantic bargaining, the sexual economy and shifting cultural standards'. Discuss this
statement in relation to two post–1990 Hollywood romantic comedies.
The aim of this essay is to discuss why romantic comedy is undeserving of its reputation for being
'un–feminist'. This statement will be discussed by close analysis of two post–1990 Hollywood
romantic comedies such as Something's Gotta Give (Nancy Meyers, 2003, USA) and Bridget Jones's

Hilary Radner has noted Nancy Meyers as being neo–feminist because of her view of heterosexual
men whom she often portrays as being highly disadvantaged up to the point of suffering a disability
and her obvious interest in older women who are portrayed as very successful career women (2011).
Her films which are targeting the female audience, as Radner observes, are combining two major
disabilities as impediments to love: masculinity and advancing age. Meyer based her film
Something's Gotta Give on her own experience as a singleton in her fifties, making Diane Keaton an
even bigger star persona who won a Golden Globe, an NBR Award and also a Golden Satellite
Award for her role in the film, as Erica. Keaton's character Erica Barry is thin and fit with a natural
look and mid–length hair. When she appears in her 'date' dress which is a classic little black dress
(LBD was highly popularized by Chanel) she catches the eye of both Harry Sanborn (Jack
Nicholson) and Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves). Radner claims that Erica functions as an alter ego of
director Nancy Meyers whose stylistic choices somehow displace Keaton's established persona, as
Keaton herself stated ''Clearly, Erica is more Nancy than me'' (Hilary Radner, 2011: 175). The film
tells the story of Erica, a divorced playwright in her fifties who falls in love with her daughter's
much older boyfriend, Harry Sanborn who is a playboy known for dating only young women.

Similarities Between New York City And Annie Hall
Location as identity, the absurdity and necessity of love, as well as individual perception of one's
past are all recognized as complex ideas portrayed throughout the nonlinear storyline of the 1977
film, Annie Hall.
New York city is Alvy Singer, while Los Angeles is Annie Hall. Woody Allen identifies the main
characters with their geographical locations throughout the film. Native to the city, Alvy is a
pessimistic, neurotic, death–obsessed, socially cold, yet highly intellectual, Jewish comedian who
fails to succeed in love. Alvy's character symbolizes the life, culture, intellect and energy of the city
he calls home. New York is the main characters comfort zone, and when he is not there his nervous
idiosyncrasies are evident. The location identifies as the antithesis of what Alvy perceives Los
Angeles to be, a superficial cultureless void. It is apparent to the audience that Alvy thinks
condescendingly of anywhere that is not New York. His character is comparable and regarded as a
stand–in for Woody Allen himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

city's quality of life was noted in this time period. Subway systems were seen as unsafe because of
the crime and frequent mechanical breakdowns. Central Park became notorious for muggings and
rapes, while prostitution took its lead in Times Square. Additionally, the US economic stagnation of
the time frame took as major toll on the city due to the fall of trading on the New York Stock

The Greatest Necession Of My Life : My Greatest Challenges...
I was 16 years old when I faced one of my greatest challenges in life. The challenge to recover from
one of the most significant incidences in my life up–to–date. I've always been naive– the type of guy
to really cling to what he cares about, ya know? When I became passionate towards something, that
something became the essence of my life. I'd wake up, as well as go to sleep while thinking about it.
Sometimes it was better to spend some time away from that thing, so to not become overly–
obsessive. But that's exactly where I went wrong, and it's exactly what made this the greatest
obstacle of my life. She was 15 years old when she'd faced one of her greatest inconveniences in

inches, a perfect foot shorter than I. Her every feature stood out ten times more than it had on any
other girl I'd ever seen in my entire life. Every syllable she spoke hit me like a freight train – her
voice softer than anything man could even fathom; how could something so gentle contain such
power? She moved with poise; more graceful than anything I've ever witnessed. She gave me a
sense of purpose. Almost everything I'd done was in her favor, yet not by request. She made me feel
unlike anyone else had been capable of making me feel in my entire life; you know that feeling of
being incapable of feeling anything? Before her, I'd only ever had a constant feeling of neutrality,

Rainsford, questioning whether this is a set up by the general to kill him said, "Why do you want to

The general said, "Once you have a baby boy like I did and you just up and leave him, you grow

Determined and anxious to leave the island, faster than a jet plane, Rainsford told the general, "I will

The project had said to create a cardboard boat and paddles out of plastic, duct tape, and cardboard.
While deciding on a basic structure for the boat, he has flashbacks from the Fourth of July. As
Mickey thinks back to that glorious, hot dog filled day, he is reminded of himself barking endlessly

This is where he imagined he'd be basking in the sun just as that other canine was doing on the
Fourth of July. Once he had the basic shape of the body of the boat he had to measure out the length
and cut the cardboard tubes (pontoons) accordingly. At first he thought his scissors would be strong
enough, but soon realized that they would not do. He used his father's' chop saw to get the job done.
Of course he didn't have anyones permission and was scolded shortly but he knew that he'd be
forgiven in no time due to the cuteness of his entire being. Once the pontoons were measured to the
length of the boat he duct taped them together and to the boat, 3 lined up next to each other. His
vision was starting to become a reality. The only thing left to do was cover it with plastic to keep it
from crumbling beneath his four paws. He cut a strip twice the size of the base of the boat and
wrapped it all the way around and into the inner sides of the box. This, he thought, would assure
absolutely no water would be able to make contact with the cardboard (he was wrong). The finishing
touches were to seal all of the openings with the duct tape. He covered every inch he imagined
possible water damage could take effect. Mickey took a step back after the 6 hours of work and
admired his boat. He was ready to put it up to the test and soar in the lake

a.) Choice – The power to choose is a fundamental concept of an entrepreneur's life. Our
environment can affect the choices we make. We tend to respond to our circumstance by choosing
the way by which we respond. One can choose to give a positive or a negative response to their

Kent state. Diversity is something I know I can benefit from in Kent state university. Kent is
relatively a large school consisting of people from different races and cultural groups. In Kent, I

Woody Allen's Film Debut With The Quirky, What's Up, Tiger...
In 1966, Woody Allen made his theatrical film debut with the quirky, What's Up, Tiger Lily?.
Woody Allen was the head writer as well as one of the directors; Senkichi Taniguchi being his
partner. The two directors took the Japanese action film "International Secret Police: Key of Keys"
and changed the plot to focus on a secret egg salad recipe instead ("What's Up, Tiger Lily?"). They
did this by re–dubbing the dialogue as well as rearranging some of the scenes. Experimental concept
of the film alone, Woody Allen managed to already set himself apart from other filmmakers.
However, it is in the execution of the concept that Woody Allen was able to establish his unique
presence in the world of popular culture. In addition to its humorous and unique concept, the film
does not unfold in a logical manner, keeping the viewer on their toes. More or less, the film's plot is
designed as an opportunity for a string of puns, playfully racist jokes, farcical situations and sight
gags. Centrally, it follows Phil Moskowitz, who was hired to recover the stolen egg salad recipe
(What's Up, Tiger Lily?). He is a secret agent, working for the Grand Exalted High Majah of Raspur
("a nonexistent but real–sounding country", according to the movie). The film makes several hard
left turns, leaving viewers pleasantly confused. However, it is clear that Woody Allen has done this
on purpose. At one point in the film, the action ceases entirely and cuts to a shot of Woody Allen and
an interviewer

Stephen Crane's The Open Boat
Stephen Crane's short story The Open Boat recounts a brief tale of four men trying to survive a
shipwreck out at sea in a small vessel, and how they eventually reach safety. Towards the beginning
of the story, this scene describes the role of the oiler and the correspondent in the boat, which is
rowing the boat. The first sentence seems sufficient for this purpose, but then Crane decides to
repeat and go into detail. However, the phrase is not initially repeated just as "they rowed", but as
"And also they rowed". The phrase was startling, it sounded a bit bitter, kind of like a matter–of–fact
way of repeating oneself to extinguish any other ideas about what the characters did. The words
"and also" give a sarcastic tone to the narrator, as if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The repetition and sarcastic tone show that even though the task is arduous and dull, it is vital to the
enterprise of survival, and may deserve more attention than just a sentence. He magnifies the first
sentence into a detailed description of a very minute action, that would be usually overlooked in a
grander narrative. Actually, the entire story is a rather magnified look at what seems a rather
microscopic event, based on the smallness of the boat, the length of time spent at sea (a few days),
and how close they are to shore. The story might be a condensed scene in an epic like Homer's The
Odyssey or Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, but while the event seems small in scale, it still is a matter of
life and death for the characters. To Crane, survival isn't built on romanticized heroics, but
realistically upon these monotonous duties described in the scene. His realism and simplicity shown
in his language and structure depicts the necessary drudgery that applies even in perilous situations.
The 'extraordinary' part of reality does not lie in magnificent adventures, but in the simple,
overlooked aspects imperative to life and

  • 3. Creative Writing: Rejection Rejection. It's always hard to handle because it's basically the other person saying you aren't good enough. It always hurts and discourages the next time round because you will always think will she say yes? Will she say no? Will I get this job? Will they accept my request? You avoid asking people questions because there will always be that fear of rejection. But then there's the opposite of it, acceptance. What happens if they do say yes, they tell you you've got the job or they tell you that the request was a good one? You never know until you ask and you always question yourself of what you could have done better if you do get rejected. Do you take the leap of faith or just continue with the same old stuff? Who knows but while I'm thinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I didn't want to live anymore. It was embarrassing and I don't ever want to do it again. I wish that maybe she had of said yes for my money but she said no because of our friendship. I just wanted to be alone. What was wrong with me? I know I am not amazingly handsome but I was decent looking. Why didn't she like me like I liked her? Why had she given me signals if she didn't want to go out with me? Why had she said no? Looking over at the cliff I know that I could but I shouldn't. It was so tempting to just end the embarrassment and pain of being rejected. I knew I shouldn't but the rejection was truly horrible. The ground was just so far away. Would it just be easier to grab a gun and shoot myself? Yes it may be but death wasn't a solution. I could get over this and I knew I could but this would be hard. Making my way home slowly would give me time to think and clear my head. Gone. She was gone and there were police surrounding the place we had met hours ago. There was a body lying there. Who? • 5. Annie Hall and Jesus Essay Annie Hall (1977), from director/actor/co–writer Woody Allen, is a compelling masterpiece of priceless, witty and quotable one–liners within a matured, focused and thoughtful film. It is a bittersweet romantic comedy of modern contemporary love and urban relationships that explores the interaction of past and present, and the rise and fall of Alvy Singer's (Woody Allen) own challenging, ambivalent New York romance with his opposite – an equally–insecure, shy, flighty Midwestern WASP female: Annie Hall. (Diane Keaton) The major theme of the film is that there are severe limitations in life (death and loss are the two most prevalent), but that art forms (such as the printed word, films, and plays) have the power to reshape reality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alvy searches for the cause of the failure of his relationship with an introspect examination of his own life. His paranoia may have been caused by the fact that he lived under the roller coaster in Coney Island, but he tends to over exaggerate his childhood memories. He constantly jokes about his own appearance, personality and sex. He never really found a true cause for the failure of his relationship. It is true however, that Annie changes through the film. She begins as a shy, uneducated female, who (with the help of Alvy) learns to be more confident and finds new aims in life. Alvy convinces her to take college courses, though Annie always insists that Alvy thinks she's "not smart enough". Alvy never really truly finds a specific cause for the breakup, but realizes that Annie had been an influence on his life. She made him think in sort of a different light, and her presence was just a joy. Although many people do not believe that this movie should have won the 1977 Oscar for Best Picture (since it was competing against Star Wars), many critics say that the choice was obvious. Annie Hall is famous not only for his humorous screenplay, but also for its wide variety of cinematography. There are a variety of innovative strategies and narrative techniques in the film that support the contention that Woody Allen is functioning as a self–conscious artist who evaluates his entire life and uses the film medium to ... • 7. My Personal Identity : The Story Of An Identity Crisis Going into this project I was in a little bit of an Identity crisis myself. I was trying to find out where I fit with my parent's hardships back in Ethiopia and as a first–generation student in America. I was trying to figure out how this all ties together within the American society I live in. With the prompt "some students have a background or identity that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it." I believed it was time for me to bring these questions out onto paper. At the time I was in 10th grade in a summer course I honestly didn't want to be in. However, because of that I definitely was not the only Rhetor for this paper. In fact, for most of my paper, I spoke via the eyes of those other rhetors, My father was one of the first and most important rhetor in my piece. Just hearing his story of being down on his luck all his life and finally getting the chance to come to a place where he may have an opportunity, not for himself, but for his children was gut– wrenching. It was the central piece of my paper both personally and narratively. The next biggest rhetor in my paper was my mother. She always had her head peeking from the corner the entire process. She continuously urged me to tell more about her and my father in my essay to a point where my teacher began to worry that if I add any more about my parents I'll hit the word limit without talking at all about myself. The final significant Rhetor in my essay was a long time family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My First Experience On The Zip Line In Las Vegas I like to do adventurous things, and one of the things that I did was ziplining. I did it twice but in two different locations. I had a fantastic time on both of these rides, both of them are reasonably priced, and on each one I was scared, but that is where the similarities end. My first experience on a zip line was in Ocean City, Maryland whereas the second time was in Las Vegas. The zip line in Maryland was only 60 feet high; the one in Vegas was as tall as a skyscraper standing at 114 feet. The zip line in Maryland was at an amusement park, has four landing stations and in total was about 1,000 feet. While I was up 60 feet in the air, I was able to see all of the rides around me. In Vegas, the zip line was on the street and had a length ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can be seen in a hospital room, nursing home, the battlefield or at sea like in " The Open Boat", written by Stephen Crane. In this story four different men are on a lifeboat. The oiler represents the good working men, the correspondent the observers, the cook represents the followers and the captain represents the leaders. The Oiler named Billie, he is physically the strongest one on the boat and the only one we know that name of. He keeps the men safe from the waves. The article "Autonomous Cars: The tension between occupant experience and intersection capacity", by Le Vine, et al. is designed to help get a better understanding of the questions that are raised about how effective the experience riding in an autopilot car can be for daily efficiency. It also examines the effects that these cars have on road networks for traffic managers when designing how roads are created. The majority of the article compares and contrast high speed trains and autonomous cars through acceleration and comfort of the ride. The authors clearly made this article in depth by including advanced level of word choice, statistics and charts. The authors start off the piece giving a general overview of the issues and goes into more detail in later paragraphs about their questions. Le Vine, et al. do not exactly state their opinion on the issues in the article but they make reference to their opinions in one of the first sentences. "... increased road network capacity and the freeing up of the driver – occupant's time to engage in their choice of leisurely or economically – productive task" (pg. 1). They are taking a stance by inferring that people could be more productive during a commute if they did not have to worry about driving. The authors seem to be targeting city planners and prospective car buyers in the article. It goes on to explain, "There is also growing interest in the impacts on road networks operations among transportation planners and road ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper, I will try to provide the similarities of the original story with the newspaper account. The differences in each article will also be discussed. Lastly, I will provide a conclusion based on the facts of both articles. "The Open Boat'' begins with a description of men aboard a small boat on a rough sea. These men are all survivors of a shipwreck. There is the cook, overweight and sloppily dressed, who is trying to remove water from the bottom of the boat. The oiler, a physically powerful man named Billie who is rowing with one oar. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He shares this thought with the other men, and the oiler smiles in sympathy. The men smoke cigars drink their water and wait to be spotted by the lighthouse rescue crew, unwilling to run their boat ashore in the rough waves. The lighthouse appears deserted. The men discuss rowing toward land swimming through the surf once the boat finally capsizes in the rougher water that is closer to shore. The crew knows that, over time, they will grow weaker and things will get worse, not better. They exchange with each other "addresses and admonitions", in case all of them do not live through this whole ordeal Later, someone is seen on the shore waving to them. A while later, a crowd gathers, disembarking from a bus. Despite their efforts to let the people know on shore they were in distress, they realize that the people on shore are tourists and that they think they are just simple fisherman. Thoughts of drowning run rampant in every man's mind on that boat. At dawn, the men decided that their only chance is to row toward the distant shore again and swim when the boat finally capsizes. On the Captain's order, the oiler rows the boat directly toward the shore. The boat capsizes and the people on the boat are so weak that it is hard for them to even keep their heads above water. Suddenly, a man appears on shore stripping his clothes off and running into the water. The rescuer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Of The Myth Of The Paperless Office Essay One In Chapter 2 of The Myth of the Paperless Office, Sellen and Harper discuss two case studies of paperless office – Dan Tech and UK Com. (a) Describe the lessons learned from these two case studies. (300–500 words) It is interesting to note that while the initial case study of DanTech was focused on its role as a paperless office, the lessons learned were derived from how the implementation of change affected a company. The main lesson learned from this case study is the importance of recognising that going paperless was "a symbol of change rather than a cause of change". This frame of mind was the crucial factor for allowing change to come about in a more natural way. Although not every change implemented was successful, DanTech ... • 23. The Open Boat By Stephen Crane The Open Boat Analysis The Open Boat is a wildly creative text. The author explores fiction and philosophy to achieve a balance of literature professionalism. The text is a masterpiece reality expressed through the creation of characters representatives of society and day to day living. Symbolic use of characters and human titles plays a key role in delivering the message of the author. Stephen Crane, the author exploits the power of harmony to establish a relationship where every individual is a unit within a literally functional setting. The author speaks about significant issues in society; more so, about the events that have affected his life. According to Alison and Mays (247), the characters in "The Open Boat" are vehicles designed to convey concepts about the society's functionality. They facilitate thematic and plot development to reveal the place of man in society and express nature as being apathetic to man. These ideological concepts are achieved by understanding the elements of society as being mutually dependent. The Correspondent, The Captain, Billie, and The Cook come up as the vital parts of the author`s chosen setting. This crew of sailors is motivated by the desire to survive but lacks adequate knowledge of the geography of the sea; they get through by ensuring that every individual is keen to do their part in the stressful environment. The Captain is a symbol of leadership and struggles relentlessly to maintain his position amongst the crew members. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Something 's Got Ta Give Something's Gotta Give Research Essay Something's Gotta Give is an award winning movie written by Nancy Meyers. This romantic drama is greatly known for its middle–aged comedic relief because it highlights the sexual encounters between an old bachelor and a cougar of a woman. The reviews written by Roger Ebert, A.O. Scott and Christopher Orr are about the movie Something's Gotta Give which will include an opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of how each review is written. Roger Ebert's 2003 movie review of Something' Gotta Give was more informational than it was a review. Ebert used a tone in his writing that would lead readers to believe more details are needed about the characters and set to understand and form an opinion. Ebert made sure readers were aware of the award winning cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, Amanda Pete and Frances McDormand. Ebert observed while watching this film that he himself was moved by the characters. Toward the end of his informational bit Ebert makes an observation that there is a sexual mystery surrounding the situation between Erica played by Diane Keaton, Dr. Mercer played by Keanu Reeves and the notorious Harry played by Jack Nicholson. With plenty of nudity to go around Ebert suggests Nicholson might have contributed to the screenplay. A review written for the New York Times by A.O. Scott in 2003 about the movie Something's Gotta Give was described as a weep, and the world laughs hysterically movie. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Reflection Paper Beginning to Understand Reviewing the idea of good fortune in one's life caused me to realize a lot about how I want to live my life, and how I should impact others by living my life to its fullest potential. Its opened me up more to the role of religion in my own life, causing me to realize what I need to work on and how I need to not change. The vast majority of my life lies in front of me and right here, right now, is where I need to focus and be present because I have been put on this earth for a reason, but I am yet to figure out what that reason is. This is not something that worries me, but rather inspires me because I will always know that I mean something and this sheds light into the darkest of times. These three questions of who God is, why does one receive good fortune, and what really is religion that have lingered about me for the vast majority of life have finally begun to resonate with me. I do not fully understand what the role of religion in my life is right now, but I feel that I do not need to understand what it is right now because I can already see myself growing to make religion more prominent in my life. Now it is one thing to say that I am beginning to understand how these questions are being evident in my life, but it is another thing to understand how it is that I will change myself to become the fullest person that I can be. Because in my life I have been one to say something, and more often than not have followed through with my word. So this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story takes us through a journey through A group of professional bank robbers start to feel the heat from police when they unknowingly leave a clue at their latest heist. (IMDB) In reading the script compared to the movie I can spot many differences. I loved the movie but the script was better than the movie. The first difference I spoted was is in the opening sequence of the film. The first scene starts out with a massive structure in the foreground and Robert DeNiro's character arriving by train. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparing the two depecctions of the story I would of liked to see the subtle decision to use the paper bag and white intern coat. I think that this character choice would set up the movie much nicer and show the audience that Robert Deniro's character is a mastermind that is very smooth in his actions. While these are subtle decisions made by the director they are very important to the progression of the story. In the movie, we appreciate Robert's character for his physical characteristics. In the script, Robert is described in detail most notably his psychical and emotional state. The script states "an ice–cold professional–very big, very tough. At 42, his short black hair is graying". I think that the script did a better job of setting up the story more correctly. I would of liked to see the script version because I think it is a more creative exposition to the film allowing the viewed to become more invested in the characters. The next scene were I noticed differences was the scene when Val Kilmer buys explosives under the company name "Jack 's Demolition" when Val is at the counter he doesn 't engage in a conversation with the clerk. This is what was shown in the movie version. In the script version however Val does engage in small talk with the clerk–significantly he tells the clerk that he is "drillin ' some post holes into concrete" This banter back and forth allows the person behind the counter to not get suspicious. Thus, the audience attentive the importance of the object to the main characters. Further, he uses a close–up of the ring to show excitement and anxiety of the scene. As I mentioned, the close–up of the scene is important because it's a demonstration of a better perspective of the ring. The excitement in a way the girl wants to know what is inside the ring, and the feeling of wearing it. The anxiety of being nervous at the same time. In addition, the setting happens in the girl's house which is middle class. In my perspective, the director chooses this setting to emphasize the events yet to come, and it is where the plot begins to form. For example, its fashion, and the quality of the furniture made it seem to have the feeling of a middle–class house. Thus, the setting of the house presents the major events of the film overall. Keaton uses the actor's facial expressions, framing to build the excitement and anxiety of the scene. He uses acting to express their facial expressions to demonstrate emotions by showing excitement and disappointment while giving a ring, and anxiety in both characters. I became an artist at a young age, and I can still remember the day art came into my life like angel sent straight from God. It was my first time watching my Pops draw a portrait. It was around noon on Saturday in the summer because the 'noon' heat was almost unearthly. However the vibe in our small two bedroom apartment was absolutely groovy and cool. Pops was playing the oldies from the 70's. " Sweet love, my sweet love you'll be crying out my name", I heard as the talented Anita Baker filled my home's walls with even more soul! He was drawing a self portrait. The detail in the drawing was so hyper realistic. At the time I did not know that it was a self portrait. I thought it was just a black man with his hands placed both sides of his head as if inside he was going crazy inside. My pops hands moved so smoothly as if each finger had a tiny brain in the tip where the pencil touched. I was around 8 years old at the time. From that moment I knew I would want to be an artist, because that type of expression seemed best for my dad. I always paid attention to the early teachings from the big guy. The cleanliness of the lines that my dad had , it almost seemed as if he was a surgeon of the paper. • 52. The Relationship Between Buster Keaton And Charlie Chaplin When identifying film connections, some relations are more pronounce than others. Visually, many of Bitzer's techniques can be observed through the works of many artists after him. As a pioneering cinematographer, Bitzer developed camera tactics of use that set the standards for all motion pictures to come; such as, the use of last–minute rescues, editing to create mayhem in rapid editing through speed, camera angles, pacing, and more alike. Most, if not all, of Bitzer's mechanisms can be recognized through the works of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. Less prominent are the interconnected relationships among Mack Sennett, the producer and director responsible for first hiring Charlie Chaplin, and eventually directing Buster Keaton in The Timid Young Man in 1935, following MGM film studio's creation. By way of this connection, Keaton and Chaplin supported and progressed the initial breakthroughs and intuitive understandings identified by Mack Sennett (Wexman, 2010, pg. 73). In the genre of film comedy, emphasis on humor is designed to produce laughter and amusement from the audience. Film comedy, to Keaton, was used as a method to demonstrate things that would happen to him in the universe, but refashioning them into a comical form. Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an American actor, director, producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster Keaton was born on October 4, 1895 in Piqua, Kansas. Here's a little fun fact on why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV, "Buster" Keaton. Legend has it that when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of stairs and there was a famous magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his name was Harry Houdini. After Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, "That was a real buster!", and so that's how Keaton got his name and that will stick to him for his whole life. So, Buster Keaton's parents Joe and Myra have been part of the actor/performer industry for several years and just like his parents Buster would follow in their footsteps. Buster began performing at the age of 3 and his first performance was a part of his parent's act. While working with his parents throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some bruises here and there but he took pride in that because he loved doing performances for the audience and in which they found it funny, so you can say that he loved making people laugh. During these performances Keaton, would learn to display the deadpan look that would later become a hallmark of his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided to move to Hollywood because his father's drinking problem would get in the way of the acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton ... Evaluation Of The Paper By Edelen And Reeve EVALUATION OF THE PAPER Purposes The original paper by Edelen and Reeve (2007) addresses the question that, in health outcomes researches, response burden seems to be a problem for some researchers, and thus an effective way to refine health outcomes instruments is necessary. The purposes of the paper are two–fold. First, the paper provides a brief overview of the IRT principles and the critical issued associated with IRT applications (pp. 5–8). Second, the paper extensively demonstrates the utility of IRT and related analyses in refining questionnaire and selecting a shortened scale to reduce response burden when measuring adolescence depression. Methods Edelen and Reeve used handful psychometric techniques to assess the data and reduce the form from 19–item to 10–item. They used CTT to reveal the basic statistics for the 19 items. Then, they calculated the Cronbach 's alphas and the Fisher's z–transformed average interitem correlations to elect a 3–category version of the scale to be analyzed. Moreover, they assessed the dimensionality and local independence using EFA and CFA. For the major IRT analysis, the authors utilized the GRM to estimate slope and step parameters, construct ICCs and IIFs, and evaluate fit at the item level. In the end, they were able to select the short 10–item form. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hilary Radner has noted Nancy Meyers as being neo–feminist because of her view of heterosexual men whom she often portrays as being highly disadvantaged up to the point of suffering a disability and her obvious interest in older women who are portrayed as very successful career women (2011). Her films which are targeting the female audience, as Radner observes, are combining two major disabilities as impediments to love: masculinity and advancing age. Meyer based her film Something's Gotta Give on her own experience as a singleton in her fifties, making Diane Keaton an even bigger star persona who won a Golden Globe, an NBR Award and also a Golden Satellite Award for her role in the film, as Erica. Keaton's character Erica Barry is thin and fit with a natural look and mid–length hair. When she appears in her 'date' dress which is a classic little black dress (LBD was highly popularized by Chanel) she catches the eye of both Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) and Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves). Radner claims that Erica functions as an alter ego of director Nancy Meyers whose stylistic choices somehow displace Keaton's established persona, as Keaton herself stated ''Clearly, Erica is more Nancy than me'' (Hilary Radner, 2011: 175). The film tells the story of Erica, a divorced playwright in her fifties who falls in love with her daughter's much older boyfriend, Harry Sanborn who is a playboy known for dating only young women. The location identifies as the antithesis of what Alvy perceives Los Angeles to be, a superficial cultureless void. It is apparent to the audience that Alvy thinks condescendingly of anywhere that is not New York. His character is comparable and regarded as a stand–in for Woody Allen himself. ... • 62. The Greatest Necession Of My Life : My Greatest Challenges... I was 16 years old when I faced one of my greatest challenges in life. The challenge to recover from one of the most significant incidences in my life up–to–date. I've always been naive– the type of guy to really cling to what he cares about, ya know? When I became passionate towards something, that something became the essence of my life. I'd wake up, as well as go to sleep while thinking about it. Sometimes it was better to spend some time away from that thing, so to not become overly– obsessive. But that's exactly where I went wrong, and it's exactly what made this the greatest obstacle of my life. She was 15 years old when she'd faced one of her greatest inconveniences in life. Frail in build; more gorgeous than anything I've ever seen. She stook approximately 5 feet 3 inches, a perfect foot shorter than I. Her every feature stood out ten times more than it had on any other girl I'd ever seen in my entire life. Every syllable she spoke hit me like a freight train – her voice softer than anything man could even fathom; how could something so gentle contain such power? She moved with poise; more graceful than anything I've ever witnessed. She gave me a sense of purpose. Almost everything I'd done was in her favor, yet not by request. She made me feel unlike anyone else had been capable of making me feel in my entire life; you know that feeling of being incapable of feeling anything? Before her, I'd only ever had a constant feeling of neutrality, with the exception of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Creative Writing: The Big Events Return The Big Events Return Soon after Rainsford beat General Zaroff in a hunting game, things started becoming more intense. Walking back to the general's castle through the immense forest full of every prepossessing tree. That is when the questions started to occur from the general. The general started talking about the game, and his first question to Rainsford was, "How did you come up with an idea like that?" "I have a brain too you know," said Rainsford, "however, I thought of my parents and my friend Whitney, who motivated me to think harder and outside of the box." That moment is when things changed, the general had stopped on a dime and looked right at Rainsford in the eyes with great shock. The general said, "What did I just hear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whitney was my son that I had left before I decided to come to this island." Rainsford's mouth dropped in disbelief, like a plane falling straight out of the sky, because he couldn't believe that this was Whitney's father. Rainsford, in shock, said, "I am Whitney's best friend! I was on the yacht with him before I fell off and swam to this island." The general stated, "I would sure love to go see my son again if I got the chance. If I use my best boat that nobody knows about to go find Whitney; will you come with me Rainsford?" Rainsford, questioning whether this is a set up by the general to kill him said, "Why do you want to go see him now if you have already left him? He won't remember who you are since you left him at such a young age." The general said, "Once you have a baby boy like I did and you just up and leave him, you grow eager to see your son again. The last thing I did before I left him, was gave him a note saying I will see you again sometime." Determined and anxious to leave the island, faster than a jet plane, Rainsford told the general, "I will come with you to find Whitney on your yacht because I miss Whitney just as much as you ... • 66. Short Story: Blood Brothers Mickey looked at the rules for this boat and was grateful that he had lost five pounds ever since being diagnosed with diabetes. His boat would float a little easier with having less weight to hold. The project had said to create a cardboard boat and paddles out of plastic, duct tape, and cardboard. While deciding on a basic structure for the boat, he has flashbacks from the Fourth of July. As Mickey thinks back to that glorious, hot dog filled day, he is reminded of himself barking endlessly at a passing dog on what he remembers being called a pontoon boat. The dog looked so peaceful to him. With all of those people on one platform easily balanced out by the large silver tubes on each side. Mickey wanted his boat to seem as peaceful and structurally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where he imagined he'd be basking in the sun just as that other canine was doing on the Fourth of July. Once he had the basic shape of the body of the boat he had to measure out the length and cut the cardboard tubes (pontoons) accordingly. At first he thought his scissors would be strong enough, but soon realized that they would not do. He used his father's' chop saw to get the job done. Of course he didn't have anyones permission and was scolded shortly but he knew that he'd be forgiven in no time due to the cuteness of his entire being. Once the pontoons were measured to the length of the boat he duct taped them together and to the boat, 3 lined up next to each other. His vision was starting to become a reality. The only thing left to do was cover it with plastic to keep it from crumbling beneath his four paws. He cut a strip twice the size of the base of the boat and wrapped it all the way around and into the inner sides of the box. This, he thought, would assure absolutely no water would be able to make contact with the cardboard (he was wrong). The finishing touches were to seal all of the openings with the duct tape. He covered every inch he imagined possible water damage could take effect. Mickey took a step back after the 6 hours of work and admired his boat. He was ready to put it up to the test and soar in the lake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I call them the summer bugs. They aren't there year round, but it seems as if they find a hole and try to takeover the entire building. I know of a few restaurants this happens to. Since I knew it was going to happen, I was prepared for the swarm and was able to protect all the food. While I did put the food where it would be safe (it was only a pan of chips and about fifteen apple pies), I got a coworker to grab a can of Raid that we had to kill the bugs so they couldn't do any damage. • 73. Woody Allen's Film Debut With The Quirky, What's Up, Tiger... In 1966, Woody Allen made his theatrical film debut with the quirky, What's Up, Tiger Lily?. Woody Allen was the head writer as well as one of the directors; Senkichi Taniguchi being his partner. The two directors took the Japanese action film "International Secret Police: Key of Keys" and changed the plot to focus on a secret egg salad recipe instead ("What's Up, Tiger Lily?"). They did this by re–dubbing the dialogue as well as rearranging some of the scenes. Experimental concept of the film alone, Woody Allen managed to already set himself apart from other filmmakers. However, it is in the execution of the concept that Woody Allen was able to establish his unique presence in the world of popular culture. In addition to its humorous and unique concept, the film does not unfold in a logical manner, keeping the viewer on their toes. More or less, the film's plot is designed as an opportunity for a string of puns, playfully racist jokes, farcical situations and sight gags. Centrally, it follows Phil Moskowitz, who was hired to recover the stolen egg salad recipe (What's Up, Tiger Lily?). He is a secret agent, working for the Grand Exalted High Majah of Raspur ("a nonexistent but real–sounding country", according to the movie). The film makes several hard left turns, leaving viewers pleasantly confused. However, it is clear that Woody Allen has done this on purpose. At one point in the film, the action ceases entirely and cuts to a shot of Woody Allen and an interviewer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The paper that I had spent so much time and effort on was finally sitting in my lap face down itching for me to turn it over. On the other side, the grade that would determine my grade in the class. My heart pounding and my arms shaking, I methodically turned my research paper over. I could only stare at the letter grade up in the top right hand corner. Speechless, words could not enough to express how I felt. My dad always told me, " Learn how to learn." Those words that did not mean anything to me for the longest time became amplified. I knew that the lessons I had learned from writing the paper were more important than the grade itself. It all started at the beginning of junior year. I worked with a concentrated effort to finish the paper that I loathed so recently. My fingers kept moving, words and sources flew onto my computer screen with ease. My room still, quiet, and relaxing became my zone; nothing could bother me. Sure enough I finished, content with what I had done I leaned back into my small and restless chair. I could breathe, the weight removed itself from my chest slowly. Filled with total ecstasy, my paper sat on my computer screen complete, but I soon came to realized that the paper that sat staring back at me was far from finished. • 77. Stephen Crane's The Open Boat Stephen Crane's short story The Open Boat recounts a brief tale of four men trying to survive a shipwreck out at sea in a small vessel, and how they eventually reach safety. Towards the beginning of the story, this scene describes the role of the oiler and the correspondent in the boat, which is rowing the boat. The first sentence seems sufficient for this purpose, but then Crane decides to repeat and go into detail. However, the phrase is not initially repeated just as "they rowed", but as "And also they rowed". The phrase was startling, it sounded a bit bitter, kind of like a matter–of–fact way of repeating oneself to extinguish any other ideas about what the characters did. The words "and also" give a sarcastic tone to the narrator, as if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The repetition and sarcastic tone show that even though the task is arduous and dull, it is vital to the enterprise of survival, and may deserve more attention than just a sentence. He magnifies the first sentence into a detailed description of a very minute action, that would be usually overlooked in a grander narrative. Actually, the entire story is a rather magnified look at what seems a rather microscopic event, based on the smallness of the boat, the length of time spent at sea (a few days), and how close they are to shore. The story might be a condensed scene in an epic like Homer's The Odyssey or Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, but while the event seems small in scale, it still is a matter of life and death for the characters. To Crane, survival isn't built on romanticized heroics, but realistically upon these monotonous duties described in the scene. His realism and simplicity shown in his language and structure depicts the necessary drudgery that applies even in perilous situations. The 'extraordinary' part of reality does not lie in magnificent adventures, but in the simple, overlooked aspects imperative to life and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
