The placement of base stations in wireless sensor networks affect the energy consumption for
communication between sensor node and base station. In this paper we analyzed the performance of the
zone based clustering protocol [2] under varying position of base stations, different zone sizes and the
effect on network life time with multiple base stations. While evaluating the communication overhead of
various cluster sizes, we observed that the optimal cluster size for a given network is complex, depending
on a range of parameters. Simulation results show that communication overhead decreases as we increase
the number of zone in the network. We show that placing multiple base stations in place of single base
station in zone based routing protocol enhance the network life time.
Energy aware clustering protocol (eacp)IJCNCJournal
Energy saving to prolong the network life is an important design issue while developing a new routing
protocol for wireless sensor network. Clustering is a key technique for this and helps in maximizing the
network lifetime and scalability. Most of the routing and data dissemination protocols of WSN assume a
homogeneous network architecture, in which all sensors have the same capabilities in terms of battery
power, communication, sensing, storage, and processing. Recently, there has been an interest in
heterogeneous sensor networks, especially for real deployments. This research paper has proposed a new
energy aware clustering protocol (EACP) for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. Heterogeneity is
introduced in EACP by using two types of nodes: normal and advanced. In EACP cluster heads for normal
nodes are elected with the help of a probability scheme based on residual and average energy of the
normal nodes. This will ensure that only the high residual normal nodes can become the cluster head in a
round. Advanced nodes use a separate probability based scheme for cluster head election and they will
further act as a gateway for normal cluster heads and transmit their data load to base station when they
are not doing the duty of a cluster head. Finally a sleep state is suggested for some sensor nodes during
cluster formation phase to save network energy. The performance of EACP is compared with SEP and
simulation result shows the better result for stability period, network life and energy saving than SEP.

In WSN the data aggregation is a means for condensing the energy requirement by reducing number of
transmission by combining the data and sending the final required result to the base station. The lifetime
of the WSN can be improved by employing the aggregation techniques. During the process of aggregation
the numbers of transmission are reduced by combining the similar data from the nearby areas. By using
the clustering technique and aggregating the correlated data greatly minimize the energy consumed in
collecting and disseminating the data. In this work, we evaluate the performance of a novel energy
efficient cluster based aggregation protocol (EECAP) for WSN. The main focus in this proposed work is
to study the performance of our proposed aggregation protocol with divergent sink placements such as
when sink is at the centre of the sensing field, corner of the sensing field or at a location selected
randomly in the sensor field. We present experimental results by calculating the lifetime of network in
terms of number of sensing rounds using various parameters such as – average remaining energy of
nodes, number of dead nodes after the specified number of sensing rounds. Finally the performance of
various aggregation algorithms such as LEACH, SEP and our proposed aggregation protocol (EECAP)

good performance in terms of lifetime and the energy consumption of the wireless sensor networks and
which can be as equally compared with existing clustering protocols.

the energy dissipated of each node be moderately balanced. We have pioneered an improved algorithm

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications have increased in recent times in fields such as environmental sensing, area monitoring, air pollution monitoring, forest res detection, machine health monitoring, and landslide detection. In such applications, there is a high need of secure communication among sensor nodes. There are different techniques to secure network data transmissions, but due to power constraints of WSN, group key based mechanism is the most preferred one. Hence, to implement scalable energy efficient secure group communication, the best approach would be hierarchical based like Clustering. In most of the WSN designs based on clustering, Base Station (BS) is the central point of contact to the outside world and in case of its failure; it may lead to total disconnection in the communication. Critical applications like these cannot afford to have BS failure as it is a gateway from sensor networks to the outside world. In order to provide better fault tolerant immediate action, a new BS at some other physical location will have to take the charge. This may lead to a total change in the hierarchical network topology, which in turn leads to re-clustering the entire network and in turn formation of new security keys. Therefore, there is a need to find a suitable algorithm which clusters sensor nodes in such a way that when a BS fails and a new BS takes the charge, new group key gets established with minimum computation and less energy consumption.

Fuzzy Logic Approach to Improving Stable Election Protocol for Clustered Hete...chokrio
The wireless sensor network is composed of a set of nodes which energy is limited in terms of computing, storage and communication power. In this network, a few nodes become cluster head which causes the energetic heterogeneity of the network, therefore the behavior of the sensor network becomes very unstable as soon as the life of the first node is elapsed. SEP has proposed the extension of time to network stability before the death of the first node and the reduction of unstable time before
the death of the last node. This protocol is based on the election
of cluster head by the balance of the probabilities of the
remaining energy for each node. In this paper, we propose to improve SEP by fuzzy logic (SEP-FL). We show by simulation in MATLAB that the proposed method increases the stability period and decreases the instability of the sensor network compared with LEACH, LEACH-FL and SEP taking into account the energy level and the distance to the base station. We conclude by studying the parameters of heterogeneity as the protocol proposed (SEP-FL) provides a longer interval of stability for large values of additional energy brought by the more powerful nodes (advanced).

Ameliorating the lifetime in heterogeneous wireless sensor network is an important task because the sensor nodes are limited in the resource energy. The best way to improve a WSN lifetime is the clustering based algorithms in which each cluster is managed by a leader called Cluster Head. Each other node must communicate with this CH to send the data sensing. The nearest base station nodes must also send their data to their leaders, this causes a loss of energy. In this paper, we propose a new approach to ameliorate a threshold distributed energy efficient clustering protocol for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks by excluding closest nodes to the base station in the clustering process. We show by simulation in MATLAB that the proposed approach increases obviously the number of the received packet messages and prolongs the lifetime of the network compared to TDEEC protocol.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION IMPROVEMENT OF TRADITIONAL CLUSTERING METHOD IN WIRELESS S...IJCNCJournal
In the traditional clustering routing protocol of wireless sensor network, LEACH protocol (Low Energy
Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is considered to have many outstanding advantages in the implementation
of the hierarchy according to low energy adaptive cluster to collect and distribute the data to the base
station. The main objective of LEACH is: To prolong life time of the network, reduce the energy
consumption by each node, using the data concentration to reduce bulletins in the network. However, in the
case of large network, the distance from the nodes to the base station is very different. Therefore, the
energy consumption when becoming the host node is very different but LEACH is not based on the
remaining energy to choose the host node, which is based on the number of times to become the host node
in the previous rounds. This makes the nodes far away from the base station lose power sooner.
In this paper, we give a new routing protocol based on the LEACH protocol in order to improve operating
time of sensor network by considering energy issues and distance in selecting the cluster-head (CH), at that
time the nodes with high energy and near the base station (BS) will have a greater probability of becoming
the cluster-head than the those in far and with lower energy.

Energy Conservation in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Cluster-Based ApproachIJRES Journal
In a wireless networking environment, the network is comprised of sensor nodes and backbones are subsets of sensors or actuators that suffice for performing basic data communication operations. They are applied for energy efficient broadcasting. In a broadcasting (also known as data dissemination) task, a message is to be sent from one node, which could be a sink or an actuator, to all the sensors or all the actuators in the network. The goal is to minimize the number of rebroadcasts while attempting to deliver messages to all sensors or actuators. Neighbor detection and route discovery algorithms that consider a realistic physical layer are described. An adaptive broadcasting protocol without parameters suitable for delay tolerant networks is further discussed. In existing solutions for minimal energy broadcasting problem, nodes can adjust their transmission powers. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are sets of many sensors that gather data and collaborate together. So, the procedures of broadcast or multicast are more important than traditional point-to-point communication in computer network. This paper focuses on broadcasting in structured WSNs. In such a kind, the procedure of network communications is easier than in unstructured WSNs. Thus, it will make an overview of Multi Point Relay (MPR) to show its weakness. Then define a cluster-based architecture for WSNs which is constructed using MPR. Next, provide a new broadcast algorithm based on the previous cluster architecture called 3B (Backbone Based Broadcasting). By the end, an illustration of 3B shows that it minimizes the energy consumption for accomplishing broadcast compared to MPR.

Wireless Sensor Networks are highly distributed self-organized systems. WSN have been deployed in various fields. Now a day, Topology issues have received more and more attentions in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). While WSN applications are normally optimized by the given underlying network topology, another trend is to optimize WSN by means of topology control. In this area, a number of approaches have been invested, like network connectivity based topology control, cooperating schemes, topology directed routing, sensor coverage based topology control. Most of the schemes have proven to be able to provide a better network monitoring and communication performance with prolonged system lifetime. In this survey paper, I provide a full view of the studies in this area.

Energy Efficient Zone Divided and Energy Balanced Clustering Routing Protocol...csijjournal
Wireless sensor network has proven its significance in almost every field in today’s era. Wireless sensor network consists of large number of sensor nodes distributed randomly in some areas. In WSN the main objective has been increasing the network lifetime. There is zone divisional approach which has shown sound improvement in increasing the network lifetime over the Leach and EEUC protocols. The proposed protocol Energy efficient zone divided and energy balanced clustering routing protocol (EEZECR) has not only much higher network lifetime as compare to ZECR and it also has much better load balancing in the network. In the EEZECR the concept of double cluster head in a cluster is introduced which reduces the load on cluster head and very efficiently does the task of load balancing in the network thoroughly which
makes this protocol favorite for many real time applications. Simulations are performed in MATLAB.
Improvement In LEACH Protocol By Electing Master Cluster Heads To Enhance The...Editor IJCATR
In wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes play the most prominent role. These sensor nodes are mainly un-chargeable, so it
raises an issue regarding lifetime of the network. Mainly sensor nodes collect data and transmit it to the Base Station. So, most of the
energy is consumed in the communication process between sensor nodes and the Base Station. In this paper, we present an
improvement on LEACH protocol to enhance the network lifetime. Our goal is to reduce the transmissions between cluster heads and
the sink node. We will choose optimum number of Master Cluster Heads from variation cluster heads present in the network. The
simulation results show that our proposed algorithm enhances the network lifetime as compare to the LEACH protocol.

One of the most important issues in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is severe energy restrictions. As the
performance of Sensor Networks is strongly dependence to the network lifetime, researchers seek a way to

Data gathering in wireless sensor networks using intermediate nodesIJCNCJournal
Energy consumption is an essential concern to Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs).The major cause of the energy consumption in WSNs is due to the data aggregation. A data aggregation is a process of collecting data from sensor nodes and transmitting these data to the sink node or base station. An effective way to perform such a task is accomplished by using clustering. In clustering, nodes are grouped into clusters where a number of nodes, called cluster heads, are responsible for gathering data from other nodes, aggregate them and transmit them to the Base Station (BS).
In this paper we produce a new algorithm which focused on reducing the transmission bath between sensor nodes and cluster heads. A proper utilization and reserving of the available power resources is achieved with this technique compared to the well-known LEACH_C algorithm.
THRESHOLD SENSITIVE HETEROGENOUS ROUTING PROTOCOL FOR BETTER ENERGY UTILIZATI...ijassn
Advancements in WSN have led to the wide applicability of sensor network in various fields. WSNs basic classification is Reactive and Proactive network. Reactive networks responds to the very immediate changes in its environment in required parameters of interest, as opposed to the Proactive network, due to continuous sensing nature of WSN. To make it more efficient and improved in terms of Energy in network’s lifetime, we need to reduce the energy expense in the network model, which is one of the most significant issues in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) [1, 2]. In this paper, we proposed an efficient version of TSEP Protocol, which prolongs the networks lifetime by efficient utilization of sensor energy, as we have simulated. We evaluated the performance of our protocol and compared the results with the TSEP. And
from the results of simulation, it can be concluded easily that our proposed efficient routing protocol performs better in terms of network lifetime and stability period.
Sensor Energy Optimization Using Fuzzy Logic in Wireless Sensor NetworkingVIT-AP University
Wireless sensor networks is challenging in that it requires an enormous breadth of knowledge from an enormous variety of disciplines. A lot of study has been done to minimize the energy used in routing and number of protocols has been developed. These protocols can be classified as - Hierarchical, data centric, location based and Network flow protocols. In this paper, we are particularly focusing on hierarchical protocols. In such types of protocols, the energy efficient clusters are formed with a hierarchy of cluster heads. Each cluster has its representative cluster head which is responsible for collecting and aggregating the data from its respective cluster and then transmitting this data to the Base Station either directly or through the hierarchy of other cluster heads. Fuzzy logic has been successfully applied in various areas including communication and has shown promising results. However, the potentials of fuzzy logic in wireless sensor networks still need to be explored. Optimization of wireless sensor networks involve various tradeoffs, for example, lower transmission power vs. longer transmission duration, multi-hop vs. direct communication, computation vs. communication etc. Fuzzy logic is well suited for application having conflicting requirements. Moreover, in WSN, as the energy metrics vary widely with the type of sensor node implementation platform, using fuzzy logic has the advantage of being easily adaptable to such changes.
WEIGHTED DYNAMIC DISTRIBUTED CLUSTERING PROTOCOL FOR HETEROGENEOUS WIRELESS S...ijwmn
In wireless sensor networks (WSN), conserving energy and increasing lifetime of the network are a critical issue that has been addressed by substantial research works. The clustering technique has been proven particularly energy-efficient in WSN. The nodes form groups (clusters) that include one cluster head and member clusters. Cluster heads (CHs) are able to process, filter, gather the data sent by sensors
belonging to their cluster and send it to the base station. Many routing protocols which have been proposed are based on heterogeneity and use the clustering scheme such as SEP and DEEC. In this paper we introduce a new approach called WDDC in which cluster heads are chosen on the basis
of probability of ratio of residual energy and average energy of the network. It also takes into consideration distances between nodes and the base station to favor near nodes with more energy to be cluster heads. Furthermore, WDDC is dynamic; it divides network lifetime in two zones in which it changes its behavior. Simulation results show that our approach performs better than the other distributed clustering protocols such as SEP and DEEC in terms of energy efficiency and lifetime of the network.
The Wireless sensor networks (WSN) consisting of a large number of sensors that are effective for gathering data
in a variety of environments, as the sensor operate on battery which is of limited power. To support high scalability and better data aggregation in fixed base station communication, sensor nodes are often grouped into disjoint, non overlapping subsets called clusters. Clusters create hierarchical WSN which incorporate efficient utilization of limited resources of sensor nodes. These clusters are formed by specialized cells. Each cluster is managed by a special node called cluster head and advanced node. An algorithm for better cluster head selection
based on the node energy and the distance from base station to the cluster head for the efficient transmission and to reduce energy consumption by the sensor nodes is proposed in this paper. And the same algorithm is compared with the LEACH algorithm in terms of energy consumption.

SLGC: A New Cluster Routing Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Network for Decrease...IJCSEA Journal
Decrease energy consumption and maximizing network lifetime are important parameters in designing and protocols for wireless sensor network (WSN).Clustering is one of the efficient methods in energy consumption by Cluster-Head in WSN. Besides, CH can process and aggregate data sent by cluster members, thus reducing network traffic for sending data to sink. In this paper presents a new cluster routing algorithm by dividing network into grids. In each grid computes the center-gravity and threshold of energy for selecting the node that has the best condition base on these parameters in grid for selecting Cluster-Head in current round, also SLGC selecting Cluster-Heads for next rounds thereby this CHs reduce the volume of controlling messages for next rounds and inform nodes for sending data into CH of respective round. This algorithm prolong network lifetime and decrease energy consumption by selecting CH in grid and sending data of grid to sink by this CH. Result of simulation shows that SLGC algorithm in comparison with the previous clustering algorithm has maximizing network lifetime and decrease energy consumption in network.
Energy efficient data communication approach in wireless sensor networksijassn
Wireless sensor network has a vast variety of applications. The adoption of energy efficient cluster-based
configuration has many untapped desirable benefits for the WSNs. The limitation of energy in a sensor
node creates challenges for routing in WSNs. The research work presents the organized and detailed
description of energy conservation method for WSNs. In the proposed method reclustering and multihop
data transmission processes are utilized for data reporting to base station by sensor node. The accurate use
of energy in WSNs is the main challenge for exploiting the network to the full extent. The main aim of the
proposed method is that by evenly distributing the energy all over the sensor nodes and by reducing the
total energy dissipation, the lifetime of the network is enhanced, so that the node will remain alive for
longer times inside the cluster. The result shows that the proposed clustering approach has higher stable
region and network life time than Topology-Controlled Adaptive Clustering (TCAC) and Low-Energy
Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) for WSNs.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Abstract –

Sensor network is composed of a large number of tiny autonomous devices, called sensor nodes.
Each sensor node has four basic components: a sensing unit, a processing unit, a radio unit, and a
power unit. WSN is an emerging technology that can be deployed in such situation where human
interaction is not possible like border area tracking enemy moment or fire detection system.

Figure 1. Overview of a wireless sensor network.
Clustering in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the process of dividing the nodes of the WSN
into groups, where each group agrees on a central node, called the cluster head, which is
responsible for gathering the sensory data of all group members, aggregating it and sending it to
the base station(s).
Despite the wealth and variety of protocols and their individual evaluations through simulation,
experimentation, and comparison to existing approaches, little help is available for the WSN
application developer. We define the optimal cluster as the one sized such that routing data from
the cluster member to cluster head and subsequently to base stations incurs the minimal
communication overhead. We confronted this question of optimal clusters for zone based
clustering algorithm ZBCA[2], a low energy, low overhead clustering protocol that divided the
area into zone and create a cluster head per zone. While evaluating the communication overhead
of various cluster sizes, we observed that the optimal cluster size for a given network is complex,
depending on a range of parameters.
Therefore, in this paper, we explore the problem of optimal clustering in detail, through
experimentation using MATLAB. Section 2 sketches the current state of the art of clustering
algorithms, Section 3 Identifying the optimal cluster, Section 4 Energy model and Simulation

2 Related Work
Routing is a process of selecting a path in the network between source and destination along
which the data can be transmitted. Various protocols are available to route the data from node to
base station in WSN in an energy efficient way, enhancing the network survivability. Battery
power being limited in the sensor nodes let the node to expire on its full consumption. The
expired node is called the dead node which results in its no contribution in the network further.
Grouping sensor nodes into clusters has been widely pursued by the research community in order
to achieve the network scalability objective.[1] Sensors organize themselves into clusters and
each cluster has a leader called as cluster head(CH), i.e. sensor nodes form clusters where the low
energy nodes called cluster members (CM) are used to perform the sensing in the proximity of the
phenomenon. For the cluster based wireless sensor network, the cluster information and cluster
head selection are the basic issues. The cluster head coordinates the communication among the
cluster members and manages their data.[3]
Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) is a popular energy-efficient clustering
algorithm for sensor networks. It involves distributed cluster formation. LEACH randomly selects
a few sensor nodes as CHs and rotate this role to evenly load among the sensors in the network in

each round. In LEACH, the cluster head (CH) nodes compress data arriving from nodes that
belong to the respective cluster, and send an aggregated packet to the base station. A
predetermined fraction of nodes, p, elect themselves as CHs in the following manner
Another cluster selection zone based scheme Zone Based Clustering Algorithm (ZBCA) [2,4]
involves dividing the area into rectangle grids called zones. In this algorithm, communication
between the sensor nodes for the CH selection is reduced, so that the energy consumption for CH
selection can be reduced. . The probability of a node to become CH is p, where p is the maximum
number of CHs in network. CHs organize and control the cluster members in their cluster. All
nodes have to establish a connection with a CH to join its cluster. The CH of each zone sends the
join request to nodes of its neighbouring zones only. On the basis of distance the nodes select one
CH, which is most near to it. Sensor nodes send data to CHs and CHs further to base station.
Cluster head is responsible for data aggregation and compression that reduces the energy
consumed for data transmission.
3 Identifying the optimal cluster
Our analysis considers the effect of key clustering parameters on the communication overhead.
We follow an experimental approach for two reasons. First, it is hard if not impossible to derive
generally valid formulas for the network communication overhead that consider all parameters,
especially random topologies. Our motivation is to make our results applicable on a real
application and the most relevant scenarios from our experiments directly derive the optimal
clustering parameters. We performed our simulations in MATLAB. In the scenario, nodes have
uniform random distribution in area. The network area is divided into equal-size zone and each
node has a cluster. Results are presented for a variety of cluster sizes that allow the area to be
precisely divided into such equal-size zone. The shortest distance in terms of ETX, expected
number of transmissions, is computed between each node and its corresponding cluster head and
between all cluster heads and the base stations. The energy expenditure is calculated as the sum
of ETX and ERX (expected number of receivers) for one round of data gathering. Overhearing
costs are included in ERX. Cluster formation energy is used Each of the reported experiments is
the mean of 100 independent random topologies with random nodes selected as base stations Our
goal is always to identify the optimal cluster size for scenarios, first studying the placement of
base stations and then the varying size of zone for the clustering in Zone based routing
Algorithm.

send the aggregated data to the base station. According to energy model transmission energy
depend on the distance. As the distance increases node required the more energy for transmission.

Figure-6 No. of round in which first dead node occurs with different zone size
As shown in above table as we reduce the area of zone the round number in which the first node
dead occur is increased. For a large network area the area can be divided in the smaller zone to
increase the network lifetime.
Conclusion:
In wireless sensor area network clustering is used to increase network lifetime. As the simulation
result show if we increase the number of base station than the energy required for communication
will be decrease. And if the base station is in center than it will also reduce the communication

cost. Transmission energy depends on the distance and distance for the communication is less in
multiple base station scenarios. In zone based algorithm the size of the zone will also affect the
residual energy of the node. Less zone area will increase the life time of network. Although this is
a theoretical simulation result for homogeneous network, but it can be easily used for the live
application.
