How 3D GIS connects the real world with virtual worlds
GIS is a system of record and as such incredably valuable basis for design. In the Geodesign process, (3D) GIS technology is incredably powerful for visualizing and analyzing urban designs. Procedural modellng in CityEngine allows city planners and designers generate flexible designs that allow for manipulation of all design parameters. 3D GIS technology connects the real world as it is stored in a realistic model with the virtual worlds of the future designed with procedural modelling.
3D Web Services And Models For The Web: Where Do We Stand?
Theme: Data: presentations focused on data (be it capture, storage, discovery or new data models such as 3D, temporal data, big data).
The aim of this talk is to sum up the standardization efforts (OGC and W3C) in defining 3D web services and models, as well as to show existing implementations to support the discussion.
In the past years, numerous open source projects have started to display 3D globes and 3D data on the web. Standardizing web services, data format and representation models is, therefore, a very hot topic. There are in particular ongoing efforts on the OGC side as well as on the W3C side. The OGC has released a draft candidate for a 3D web service W3DS, the ISO X3D standard proposes an XML-based file format for representing 3D computer graphics and the W3C is considering adding X3D rendering into HTML5. Other projects implement their own web services and formats. On the implementation side, Geoserver supports W3DS and X3D, the X3DOM library prototypes a possible implementation of X3D HTML5 integration and last but not least, browsers with WebGL support are fully able to handle the representation of 3D data on the client side. The talk is going to detail the mentioned elements, show demonstrations of existing implementations and try to suggest a possible path into the 3D web for the FOSS4G community.

Covenant University location navigation system (CU Naviloc) built on the Android
platform is a mobile based system which can be easily accessed from an android
mobile device across any location, downloadable on Google play store and
deployable anywhere in the world. In this study,Computer-aided design as well as
building Information modelling (CAD/BIM) system applications were introduced to
the simulation of Covenant University, a smart and compact campus whose edifice
elaborates the need for the development of a three dimensional (3D) virtual model of
locations as an advancement over the existing 2D model representation of maps on
the Google map and Google Earth platform. Therefore, this research work outlays the
development of three dimensional models (CU NAViLoc Model) for details of
information at Covenant University as well as the requirements for its development
and implementation for cooperate representation of the institution. A three
dimensional map of CU was packaged into a location navigation system and was
implemented using Unreal Engine, Trimble SketchUp and Revit to effect a user
friendly, smarter and multi-dimensional viewable user interface. CU Naviloc explore
the advantage of the rich benefits of building information models and geographic
information systems to build a free-roam navigator, based on a well-updated model of
Covenant University location map. The benefits of this system is not limited to 3D
capability, real time similarity, portability, no downtime on access, and progressive
scalability with zero or little loss of data. The usage of the CU Naviloc system
requires free download and installation of the app and internet presence.
Overview of 3D GIS Capabilties
This poster presents an overview of 3D GIS Capabilities. It can be used for discussions about 3D GIS workflows (from 3D data acquisition to 3D object creation to 3D analysis, modeling and visualization), and the possible applications of 3D GIS in urban and landscape environments
Creating, Managing and Sharing 3D Cities with FME
Decades after GIS went 3D for the first time, currently there is an enormous hype on creating and managing smart 3D Virtual Cities. Driven by the ongoing integration of BIM, CAD and GIS data, data transformation capabilities are more important than ever before. This presentation will examine basic concepts on 3D Data modelling and data standards like CityGML, Esri’s 3D City Information Model and IFC (Industry Foundation Classes). Examples illustrate how LiDAR data sets can be used to generate terrain models and 3D Data Models in combination with 2D GIS and CAD data. In addition, strategies for sharing and publishing 3D content will be demonstrated. Attendees will get an understanding of how 3D data integration tasks can be solved with FME.

This talk was given at the FOSS4G Asia 2021 held at Kathmandu, Nepal.
Have you ever heard about Open Indoor Map project? No? Don't worry about that you don't know the OIM(Open Indoor Map) project, because OIM is quite new project and not publicly well-known. OIM project got many inspiration from Open Street Map. OIM is a project to let users upload & share their indoor related data. Users can upload their IFC, CityGML, IndoorGML, 3DS data that represent indoor space to the OIM server and OIM server service those data through web in 3D. OIM project makes use of many open source project including mago3D, Assimp, and others. I expect OIM project could expand crowd-sourced map to indoor space as well by complementing Open Street Map.

In this talk I showcased several real projects that employed the mago3D and shared what I learnt from these projects.

Envie project 3_d_city_models_urban_micro_climate
The decision making process related to urban areas synthetizes a lot of data taking into account
numerous parameters. The indicators produced from simulations or data mining on 3D city models (3DCM)
can be a great help into these decision-making processes. The problem is to acquire and process the 3DCM
in order to produce these indicators at city scale. The EnVIE project proposes a framework to perform the
acquisition of 3DCM and then to produce 3D or 2D metadata on these models. As several city councils have
been interviewed in the scope of the project to describe their real needs, the computed metadata are directly
usable into the decision-making process. The main contribution of this framework is to merge existing
techniques to build a pipeline allowing to compute lighting and wind simulation, and to extract socioeconomic
metadata with data-mining techniques. This on-going work builds a link between indicators at
the building scale and 2D indicators at larger scale from GIS, and therefore is a step towards an indicator
production process at full-scale range.
Stranger in a Srange Land;Exploring 3D and CityGML
Lessons learned working with 3D and validating CITYGML data. While working on a QA process for CityGML data the FME support team educated me on some of the issues 3D can bring. This presentation will focus on how FME made 3D workable.

The latest generation of virtual and mixed reality hardware has rekindled interest in VRGIS (Virtual Reality GIS) and ARGIS (Augmented Reality GIS) applications in health, and opened up new and exciting opportunities and possibilities for using these technologies in the personal and public health arenas (Kamel Boulos et al., 2017). This presentation will offer a snapshot of some of the most remarkable VRGIS and ARGIS solutions that rely on big data, including real-time data, to deliver the vision of smart healthy cities (Kamel Boulos et al., 2015).

Cloud Computing is all about sharing resources and moving services, computation, data for cost and advantage. Many cloud providers host their services over the web and mobile apps for their peers. SaaS, PaaS, IaaS have been the basic providing strategies. Many applications use one of these areas of cloud computing. But all the applications may not be run accurately and cheaply using the existing strategies particularly virtual reality applications. A new architecture or strategy has to be built for such applications. In this paper, we suggest a new strategy named VRaaS (Virtual Reality as a Service) and its architecture for running such virtual reality applications. We also illustrate an example application which can be run using this architecture.
A Bumpy Road to Digital Twin
I gave this talk at the ITEA3 Smart City Business Event. In this talk, I introduced mago3D project, an open source based digital twin platform first. And then shared the real cases that I and my company have carried out in various industries. I concluded the talk with what I've learnt from these real projects. Some food for thoughts around digital twin were provided for further discussion.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
