very prominent time in United States history. The book takes us back to a time where the issue of
civil rights began to rise eventually reaching its peak marking this an unforgettable time in history
for that generation and for generations to come. During this time the south in general was already
a tough place to be in, but the in the Deep South things were even worse, which is where the story
takes place. Not only was race a huge issue other things factored into these trying times such as
huge levels of poverty, and various acts of violence. Although all of these factors played a crucial
part to the make up of the Civil Rights Movement, the one that stands out the most is prejudice
with the other factors such as unfair gender roles and poverty falling suit behind. Anne Moody
shares different stages of her life throughout the book, starting from her childhood documenting life

Remorse is a product of a deep regret which is brought upon by empathy, something in which the
character Montresor in the story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe claims he does not
possess, as he desires to commit the perfect revenge. This paper argues that the em dash used in
the cask of amontillado signifies that Montresor feels remorse for his actions but rapidly
recomposes himself, as the em dash allows him to blame his feelings on account of the dampness
of the catacombs(pg.854). But, in doing so proves that perfect revenge is unattainable, and
Montresor is left to pretend that he is unable to feel empathy.
The em dash in this story suggests Montresor feels remorse but wills it away. But in doing so,
proves that perfect revenge is nonexistent. No matter how deep the hatred may be for Fortunato,
Montresor is only human and as such, his consciousness and empathy take control of him. This
new found realization and remorse is quickly overcome, regaining his composure by stating his

historical period with a dramatic class divide, Victorian poets wrote with the intention of crafting

In these last months of spring for 2014, the global conflicts have been very prominent. As a
spectator watching these unrests unfold I am lead to consider what is driving this unrest around
the globe. To give cause to these precipitous events one cannot help but try and get to basics first

site has surely grown quite a bit from the site intended to allow Harvard students to connect with
one another. Today, Facebook is a site filled with advertisements and cheaply made free to play

landscape of a service that is supposed to be actually connecting people. Things like this have led
people to lose hope in online social networking. To some it seems like it has become a detriment
to society. However, the results of what happens when it is used properly should not be
overlooked. Online social networking in general promotes actual relationships and benefits our
society by providing a medium perfect for connecting with people in a variety of ways. As with
everything, there are those who think differently, believing that social
