The chemical separation is used to reduce the quantity of potentially toxic or hazardous materials discharged to the environment. Hence, this article aimed to collection information about the chemical separation to help the researchers to resolve the environmental problems. Overall, it can concluded that the extraction is the first step to separate the desired substance from the raw materials and there are various methods for extraction such as sublimation, distillation method and solvent extraction. Correspondently, there are many types of separation processes, the most widely used method is the chromatography method.

Evaluation of the photo-catalytic oxidation process with commercial ZnO for r...irjes
The textile industry uses a very great amount of water in their process and then, produces high
quantities of colorful wastewater containing pollutants like suspended solids, heavy metals and other inorganic
and organic compounds. In this study, real textiles wastewaters were processed in an oxidative photo-catalytic
slurry reactor, using commercial ZnO as the catalyst, in order to evaluate its efficiency, the effect of pH, the
effect of catalyst loading and its kinetics. The process was tested in a batch reactor, in bench and semi-pilot
scales, with excellent data reproducibility observed in the scale-up. Moreover, decolorizations of 97.43 %, BOD
and COD reduction were obtained, showing good applicability of the process. According to regional
environmental agencies, the final effluents parameters were checked showing good acceptance for the use of
ZnO, except for the presence of Zn2+ in the effluent as a disadvantage.

soil contaminated with crude oil in a particular area. Contamination
of soil environments with crude oil is very hazardous for the human
and other organisms in the ecosystem.
15. The basic principle of the Wilhelmy Plate
method
• Wilhelmy plate method refers to a thin plate with known dimensions
that is typically used to measure surface or interfacial tension
between air-liquid or liquid –liquid interface respectively.
• The method is based on measuring the force acting on the plate that
is partially immersed into liquid. The force acting on the plate

16. • 5 Surface tension measurement
• Surface tension of crude biosurfactant was determined by Wilhelmy plate method in a tensiometer with
respect to distilled water. Average reduction of surface tension was in the pH 4, with the strain X in pH 4
showed the maximum reduction in surface tension as compared to others. Also noted down the variations
in the surface tension of all other strains.

In fluorescent microscopy, various fluorescent dyes
are used which gives property of fluorescence to only
specific part of the cell and hence it can be focused.

called a fluorophore
The specimen is illuminated with light of a specific
wavelength (or wavelengths) which is absorbed by
the fluorophores, causing them to emit longer

Typical components of a fluorescence microscope
are the light source (xenon arc lamp or mercury-
vapor lamp), the excitation filter, the dichroic
mirror and the emission filter.

packed column. A solvent used as a mobile phase is called an eluent.

visually.

sequentially in labelled tubes and the composition of each fraction is
analyzed by TLC.
